Although i hadn't been to any student exchange programme before, i would like to be involved in one before i get too old . I hope those who had been to any sort of student exchange programme before can share their experience and also ways to involve yourself into the programme. (Especially Japan!) |

| No, I think I'm too wuss to go through one. I don't want to visit Japan, but I would love to go somewhere in Southeast Asia or to Manhattan. I'd rather go when I get older, just being a tourist by myself or with some close friends. |

yes, i've went two times. haha. that was when im in primary school.. it was lucky that my school had this opportunity with other primary schools and we go together as a Sinapore group. haha.
i went to Australia, Perth in 2000 when i was in primary 5 (11 year old) for a 5 days 4 night trip. It was enriching as we get to know how their education system works and how it is different. Of course, we learn about their culture too. Before going there, we practised a little performance. I remember we sang Chan mali chan, home(chinese version by Kit Chan), and Muneru Valiba(not sure the title), a malay, chinese and Indian song respectively. It represents Singapore as a multi racial country. We are also dressed up in our ethnic costume when we perform. I wore a Kerbaya(again I'm not sure the spelling), its a malay costume and its nice! We travelled schools to schools and also places like Zoo, Cow farm, sheep, fruits and vergetable farm, and also shopped there. The Zoo is different from Singapore Zoo as our land is so small! The zoo i visited has a big landscape for the animals and its very enjoyable (esp the cold weather I've never experienced it in Sg) It is really fun to go on tour with friends and teachers.
Then in Primary 6 we went on a 8 days 7 nights trip to China (Hangzhou, Suzhou, Shanghai, etc..) I was surprised that their school hours are long! One of the schools I visited, they start their morning physical exercise early in the morning, then they have lessons and until the afternoon, they have what we called co-curriculum activities (CCAs)and then they have lessons again until about 5pm. We also attended some lessons with them and when their teachers asked them to read a passage, they were so enthusiastic they read so loudly with energy! This is so unlike Singapore where teachers ask us to read a passage, most of us just murmured. Their toilets in the schools have no doors and there is only one flush at one end of the cubicle that flush the drains of cubicle together once(maybe that has changed since that was 6 years ago). We also visited temples, lakes, etc etc.. The structures around the temple is magnificient and we were wow-ing everywhere we go. hahaa. Of course we get to shop too! The first thing we do is to ask how much, and we began to ask for discounts. haha.
Hmm, after reading if you feel that its fun and enjoyable, you should go on exchange programmes if you have the opportunity!! |
