I like to watch J-Horror because it isn't so much of the "something pops out of the corner and surprises everyone" kind of thrill. They do a better job I think at leaving the viewers paranoid . Also I like endings that leave you thinking.
-Tomie (all of them)
-Kairo (Pulse)
-Dark Water
-Kasen (Infection)
-Yogen (Premonition)
I usually hate every movie directed by Miike Takashi (Ichi the Killer was horrible ) but Chakushin Ari (One Missed Call) was decent. I liked the first one better than the second though.
Either that or I'll watch really old movies, any genre usually.
-A Patch of Blue
-Poseidon (the original one)
-Kuroi Ame (Black Rain) |

| Okay, I admit, I haven't actually watched a movie from start till end for quite some time now but the most memorable of all (i.e. from the few that I've seen) has got to be Jerry Maguire. I mean, it's 10 years old, true... but the values it talks about like loyalty, family, love and pride are certainly timeless. The way it shows how greed builds up a person but ultimately fails him or her since they are left feeling nothing... is presented in a funny and touching way. And the fact that we, the audience, laugh at some of the jokes (like the one where the father, a sportsman, wakes up from a concussion and has to try hard to remember his family members, only to be reminded that he has to pay Maguire his weekly commission) shows that maybe we're all a little guilty of greed. The movie very much shows the worst and best of human behaviour, and how a little hope may be the one thing that keeps us alive. |

Well, after living for awhile longer and watching a lot more movie my list has been revised a little but there are still some of those old ones up on the charts. Ther are also some movies that my absent mind forgot to put on there:
[1] Mindgame
[2] My Sassy Girl
[3] Hero
Here are some notable ones that didn't make the cut, in no particular order:
[0] Sympathy for Lady Vengeance
[0] My Fair Lady
[0] Kung Fu Hustle
[0] The Classic
[0] Kakurenbo
[0] The Usual Suspects
[0] Swing Girls
[0] Oldboy
[0] Anything Miyazaki
[0] Life Is Beautiful
I know for a fact there are others that I'm forgetting but this'll have to do. |

| I think movies are for two reasons; entertainment and upliftment. The barest entertainment that I can think of would be slapstick, and I think liar, liar (with Jim Carrey, no less) wins this award with mindless fun and presenting honesty in the right light. Upliftment, of human endeavour, will and courage requires a movie that doesn't just shake but reverses our perspective to see 360. There are no clear winners here apparently, but I think a few good movies that do this is The Truman Show (again with Jim Carrey - he really should get an Oscar some day), Jerry Maguire and Contact. Many movies arguably attempt to present themselves as true contenders like American Beauty, but I think it's really in the eye of the beholder. |

it's funny too, the story is even crazier than the first one's
but my absolute favourite movies are pirates of the caribbean 1 and 2
I looooove johnny depp and orlando bloom
johnny's acting is so adorable...and damn funny
the storys are cool, too...although the end of the sequel is soooo mean...I want to see the third movie so badly now...but I have to wait more or less one year...
I want to laugh again because of the funny parts and the funny way of acting ^___^

| I liked legally blonde too! I feel embarrass saying this, but I love chick flicks. You know, like Mean Girls and stuff like that. I absolutely cannot stand horror movies! I can never sleep properly after watching one of them. >_< Thrillers are good for me too, although I can't name exactly which one I like best. I just like too many movies! |

| Okay, I'm a real sucker for comedies, mindless, bizarre, intricate, whatever. Zoolander has got to be the most mindless fun movie I've seen (Magnum, har har har and get David Bowie being a catwalk judge). The initial seasons of Ally Mcbeal were real classics too (pretty much up to a year or so after Lucy Liu came in). Moving away from comedies, X-Files is truly a cult classic and fan favourite for many years to come (Twin Peaks once had that status but X-Files undoubtably has longevity). |

I'm lazy, so I'll use Tia-Kun's list. (Sorry!)
Favourite All-time Movie: See below. (LOL.)
Favourite Action Movie: Spy Kids. HAHA! (Does this count?) Bourne Supremacy's not bad.
Favourite Romance Movie: Er... Oh, I know. It's this Canto movie. It's called 'Glass Bottle' in Cantonese, but I think the English title is 'Gorgeous'. I honestly don't know why I like this movie, as I don't particularly like romanc movies in general.
Favourite Horror Movie: NONE! Yuck.
Favourite Sci-Fic Movie: Star Wars, as stated below.
Favourite Comedy Movie: SPACE BALLS! Bwahaha. And Michael Hui's Ban Jin Ba Liang (Canto movie).
Favourite Drama Movie: Gee, I dunno. I guess Life is Beautiful would be the closest thing. OH! And Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. Although this would probably be better suited to the Comedy category, actually, since I like it mostly for the funny bits. xD
Favourite Movie Musical: Phantom of the Opera (<3!), West Side Story (<33!), RENT (<333!), Annie (Disney ver.), The Music Man, the list goes on.
Favourite Animated Movie: All the Disney movies, esp. 101 Dalmatians and Aladdin
Favourite Movie Series: Tied between LotR and Star Wars (the original trilogy, mind you)
Favourite Character: I'll tell you one, no, two. I love Anita from West Side Story and Han Solo from Star Wars.
Favourite Male Character: OK, here's another one. Legolas from LotR [NOT Orlando (fricking) Bloom! Just Legolas.]
Favourite Female: Oh, I don't know. I like Princess Mononoke from the movie of the same name. She's so strong and mysterious.
Favourite Villain: Pizza the Hut from Space Balls! (Get it? Pizza the Hut, Jabba the Hutt... lmao.) He pwns all, including himself.
Favourite Kind of Movie: It depends. I do like a bit of comedy. I mean, what's life without laughter, ya know?
Favourite Scene: Ooh, I LOVE the scene in Phantom of the Opera where the Phantom lures Christine into his lair! It's so cool xD In sleep he sang to me... In dreams he came... I also love the battle scenes in The Return of the Jedi and LotR. I don't know, it's just fun to laugh as the bad guys get clobbered.
most anticipated movie: Inkheart, Artemis Fowl, and Les Miserables (it's been in production hell for years!).[/i] |

Silent Hill and Pan's Labyrinth and possibly Howl's Moving Castle are my favourite films.
Although Silent Hill isnt really in a different language, I prefer films which are, because I prefer to read subtitles rather than staring at a screen the whole time. Hard to explain.
But my favourite genre is, umm, Im not sure if you could call it a genre but, I like conceptual movies. Such as: Crash, All About My Mother and possibly a heap of others that no-ones heard of. So I wont bother explaining
But Im going to get around to watching more Eastern Films. Im interested in Oldboy. |

My favorite movie genre is horror films. Even if most of them look cheesy, I still want to see them
My favorite movie is House on Haunted Hill. The 1999 Dark Castle remake, not the very old one.... I will love this movie forever I really like Dark Castle films, and it's easy to like them all since there aren't that much. Here are their movies...
House on Haunted Hill
Thir13en Ghost
Ghost Ship
Gothika
House of Wax
And they have more coming out this year. I want to see them! |
