秘密 was nice (save for her stretched ears ) but as it went on I started to get a little bored. So I didn't watch the whole thing (eee I'm a bad fan lol). I'm most eager to see 甘い罠 (despite the fact that some people were saying it was pretty bad) and Under. I want to buy Black Cherry (for the PVs also!) but I'm also saving for ℃-ute's 3rd, Yuna's 2nd and KAT-TUN's 3rd (whenever it's announced). So I don't know when I might, either. I want to buy it fast (even though there's 1 more first press at CD Japan that's been there for ages) but I think I'll maybe end up waiting another month or so, anyway. I've never bought a DVD before. I've seen the performance of BUT in Yokohama Arena, but that's it. From there she looks like a good live performer.
YES. A lot of people were laughing at it, and I think that's what it was supposed to be, a joke (albeit a crude one). But her wording, I guess, was a little offensive? Even so, I still don't think it's offensive enough for women to protest, for canceling her promotions and closing down her site, or for the sponsors to null her contracts. I definitely don't think it's enough to release her. If she gets terminated over something this stupid, I'll be really upset.
Ayu>>Well, I can sort of like some of the individual tracks, but not as a whole, the album. And you're right, I hate her new rock style. GUILTY was so much rock for me that it was starting to get too repetitive. I miss her cute pop songs and some of her trance / techno. With GUILTY, I only liked (don't) Leave me alone (I actually love this one), GUILTY, glitter and Mirror, which is just an intro-type track anyway. |

I guess I'm the latest to join the "I used to not like Kumi but then I heard ___ and now I really like her" club! Yeah, I heard you first, sorta liked it, then heard Someday, and liked it, then heard BUT and fell in love I like the Kingdom album, it's well put together but I don't see the need for so much extra stuff... it just feels like axex is overexposing her. Himitsu is definitely my favorite song from the album though |

Actually I'm quite disappointed with Kingdom after all the hype following it. It sounded like a rehash of BC. Don't get me wrong I think it's a good album and it's probably better than most artists around release. However personally I felt it brought nothing groundbreaking or new to Koda Kumi. It has the same formula as BC, a mixture of urban and cutesy poppy songs, so I couldn't help get the feeling that this was Black Cherry Part 2. I guess I expect a lot from Kumi because she's a high quality artist.
Furthermore the lack of continuity made this album sound a bit messy. This album has this polished album cover and a proclamation of something superior with the "Kingdom" title but the content doesn't seem to hold up its' name. It was as if they threw the songs haphazardly in the album. A couple of interludes wouldn't have hurt to make this album sound more polished and professional.
Also the new pvs didn't impress me. Some were average but others were downright tacky and boring. The technique of recycled footage look amateurish compared to the same technique on Second Session. Personally I'd rather see 3/4 new pvs with good quality rather than this. avex seems just happy to pack their artists albums with lackluster pvs just so that they can mention that x artist has x pvs in her album.
Ayu's album might have been too much rock but at least it sounded cohesive and it seemed to follow a certain theme rather than sounding random and without a direction. |

I kinda see what you mean with the flow, I seriously dont get why Koda doesnt include a few interludes here and there and like at least group the tracks so it has a decent flow. The musical style is the same as BC I agree, but I really think this is a major improvement in the album tracks department. I also didnt like most of the new pv's, since they seem rushed and cheap, but it doesnt bother me that much. I have to agree that the BEST~ss~ PV's were a lot better in general.
@october: Amai Wana is definitely my favorite track in the album, I liked it so much I made my first translation ever lol. The PV is good in my opinion, I liked it better than Under's.
I dont think BC is limited like at all, since every site and store has the CD+2dvd version available as far as I know. |

^ Yeah, but I think all of the versions are first press sold out except for the CD+DVD version.
So I'm buying that. I only bought CD+DVD version of Kingdom too, because I didn't have enough money for 2DVD.
It got here yesterday. The cover looks a lot better in person than it does in pictures. I thought I would hate it some more. >> I watched the DVD, and I like the menu. But the only PVs I could sit through were FREAKY, BUT, LAST ANGEL feat.東方神起, and Run For Your Life. The others were pretty boring, and I hated anytime. High-quality Wonderland was even freakier. But, why in the world does Introduction have a PV? I actually laughed, I thought that was a little weird. I'm not really blown away by anything on it, so I guess I'll just be satisfied having the album. Maybe I'll have the patience to watch all of them some time else.
I don't think my favorite track has changed. Congrats on your first translation ^^ |

^ Oh yeah, I heard about that as well. Kumi Kumi Kumi Kumi ...She didn't mean it offensively, but still...it wasn't a very nice thing to say. Hopefully she's learned her lesson now.
On the subject of Kumi's PVs, I've never really found one that amazed me. you was a nice one, but I still didn't like it that much. Plus, this whole Kingdom thing kinda seems like another 12 single scheme, with hit or miss results. The songs are all interesting, even if they sound a bit like a slapdash effort, like Rinoa said. I think it's time for Ayu to lend Kumi some interludes! |

One thing though, that just happened to kumi in Japan was that I think she was on this radio show and she said something about woman's pregnancy at age of 35 and angered tons of people so her original scheduled shows and commercials for kingdom were all cancelled
Yeah, it's really silly. But, I still think Kingdom is doing well. She's taking a 1 month break [/ suspension?] but I guess it's a pretty good thing since she's been releasing like crazy. Is it true that she's coming out with another Best this year? It'll be really insane if she does. I wonder if she's going to do a Best in every year? |

Well to our cultural context it's overreacting. But Japanese are more sensitive and Kumi did make a careless comment (even though probably she didn't mean it). Doubt this is going to affect her much in the long run.
Yeah apparently she is releasing yet another best. It's really dumb imo having a fourth best after having one last year. It's like they're cheapening the value of a best album. I like Kumi but the gimmicks avex uses sometimes are really tacky and make her look as if she cares about nothing apart from sales. |

Another best album? Why don't they just call them "lame marketing devices that probably won't get us anywhere because it isn't really a best album it's more like a slapdash collection of popular songs" albums? Seriously. |

I actually find a lot of her songs (well, a lot of the ones I've heard anyway) mediocre or boring...usually only after listening to them for a short while. I quite like how her voice is unique and they seem to suit her songs but I just cant enjoy the majority of her songs.
The other major downside I find with Kumi is her style of music videos. They quite often have her dressed in some revealing outfit followed with her dancing in some rather explicit way (that is, if I remember JUICY correctly). With that image in my mind, it kinda just tarnishes her reputation (for me anyway) and I just wonder if it really is all that necessary to do that. I mean c'mon, surely she can get by with her singing talent alone. And if she wants to dance, cant she coreograph something less explicit? |

^ yeah exactly, thats the reason why most people call Kuu a u know what...
I don't think she's one, I don't particularly like her like the Kuu fans but I find shes alright even though ehr music isn't really my style. The only songs I LOVE LOVE from her are like...1000 sen no kotaba and real emotion and thats cause I loved them in ffx2.
Maybe its cause of the ff image ha tI don't want to think of her badly
And is she seriously doing another best..those really annoy me now I swear. She came out after Ayu and she's got like double the amount of BESTS...why can't avex spend that ,money on Ayu or Ai... |
