I just discovered Koda Kumi last week. I only like a few of her songs so far, but she is insanely hot. Like...holy friggin crap. Wow.
There's a torrent of all her PVs at JPOPSUKI. |

Koda Kumi makes no.1 on the Top Selling Female Albums in the first week of 2005. I can't believe she sold more than BoA within the first week, but I don't think the album is gonna sell over a million like BoA's did.
1. Best -first things- (2005/09/21)
Koda Kumi
559,000 copies sold - first week
2. BEST OF SOUL (2005/02/02)
BoA
489,000 copies sold - first week
3. 夢の中のまっすぐな道 (2005/03/02)
aiko
255,000 copies sold - first week
4. MUSIC (2005/03/09)
Mika Nakashima
232,000 copies sold - first week
5. Queen of Hip-Pop (2005/07/13)
Namie Amuro
202,000 copies sold - first week |

| Wow thats very impressive! Go Koda! I think that the time of a albums release would help boost sales too. Like BoA's Best of Soul came right after the holidays so maybe people couldn't buy it during the first week.? |

I was just recently fully exposed to Koda Kumi,,, before, I had only heard 1000 no kotoba.... I downloaded her First Class Secret Limited Live... and the Shake It performance was very.... sexually orientated!!! I mean... it rivals Britney Spears and what she does at her concerts... seriously...
Apart from that, she is HAWT |

Lol Koda Kumi never fails to make me laugh with her sexy dancing and outrageous pvs.
Ive got her Selfish, Butterfly,Hotstuff and Trust you pvs. My favourite song is selfish and vid Butterly she looks cool as a teacher lol
Though she doesnt really wear any clothes most the time her songs make up for that but it gives the boys thrills I guess...... |

Yeah, now its sold 1,144,024 copies. I think that will be ending it out for the year. But I think that will be the only album by Koda Kumi to sell over a million, until she release another 'best album'.
Also, here is Koda Kumi's sell units:
Affection 91,000
Grow Into One 190,000
Feel Me Mind 146,000
Secret 497,000 (might be more)
Best first things 1,144,024
This shows in a away that sex wasn't selling for her very much, because her selling units was low. Understandable considering her singles are the only good songs on her albums.
So in the future I do not see her being a Queen of Jpop nor do I see her beating out Namie Amuro, BoA, Ayumi Hamasaki, Utada Hikaru, nor Mika Nakashima. Only thing she has going for her is her body and good singles. |

what do you mean? her latest cd secret made the most sales and that was the cd with the most sexual explicit videos (ex.shake it, selfish, trust you,hot stuff etc..) which clearly shows, her eye candy effect works good, since when she started her records didnt do as well becuase she was trying to imulate other more famous singers ( ex. ayu, namie amuro)
once she did her own stuff ( the sex appeal) her records went up
i know shes not going to be queen of pop thats obivious but i think her style and persona is something that you dont find alot in japanese music , and is good and refreshing to have a singer like her ^__^
plus she can shake her booty up and down like no japanese girl i've seen before |

And you find that to be true talent? |

it mayn't be true talent. but as AYA6912 said, you rarely see artists like kumiko in Japan, and that in itself is a reason to praise kumi koda considering her success.
personally, i think it is good that styles are changing and artists are open to more diverse styles.
now if everyone was going all sexy and raunchy, thats when you know its bad and talentless. |

Yeah I agree. People may call her degrading names and think she falls low but I think that the fact that she actually has made a brave and transgressive move to be sexy and produce sexy promotional videos is brave and needs guts. It might not be talent as an artist, but as a person she indeed does have talent to attract the Japanese audience to her. And let's face it, I doubt any artists has really dared to do this before except maybe hitomi.
She won't become queen of pop in my opinion but I think it did put her as one of the most popular artists in Japan. |

That's right. Such a bizarre change in style is really a hit or miss. Had she faltered, it would have served horribly for her reputation and image as an artist. However, her daring ways proved otherwise.
Her compilation album is doing fantastic on the charts, as is her first Live DVD, and I think that is the result of the new image that she has promoted and captivated some audience with it. |

Woah nobody is speaking about those 12 singles which are so popular in J-Pop forums? Kumiko is releasing 12 singles in 12 weeks. All singles shall have a cover with outfits from a different country.
Covers:
Credit for image: Affection forum
Titles of singles:
1. you
2. Birthday Eve
3. D.D.D
The first single, 'you' made it's debut at #1 and stayed there for 3 days. I'm quite sure it'll get #1 at weekly. |
