hmm.. looks like she's performing "Happy Days" with the megaphone! wow I can't wait! It'd be so cool seeing 'present' Ai doing 'past' Ai songs |

^She only started with Ai am BEST Tour.
Before that she had Akinori do the backing and I must say it was rather crap. |

Was just about to point this out.
It's 6000 for first press and 5000 for regular.
Avex is really pissing me off now, even these DVDs are so costly. |

That's quite alot
You're right about Avex They're ticking me off !
Ayu's new concert is expensive too. 5800yen (US$ 65.57) I haven't ordered it yet I'm debating about ordering the Over Seas Version because it's just too much money |

Woooh!oo! Thanks for the news! This make me ecstatic! Simply become finally something comes out on my Birthday! Angela Aki is also releaseing her 3rd album on my Birthday! So I know what I shall be treating myself to next year.
I know the price is steep but I usually budget my way around an Ai DVD no matter what (even if I'm going back to school and revert back to a poor student again =( ). Not one of Ai's concert DVDs have disappointed me to date so I'll look forward to this one as I have with the others.
The only thing that would have made it better if I could have went to one of the concerts myself but getting the DVD will be compensation I guess ... |

Thing is the past 2 LOVE IS BORN DVDs have been less than 4000 yen. Now this year the cheapest edition is 5000 yen.
If this was an album tour with nice videos and light shows and many costume changes, it justifies the price. This doesn't though. |

Well Ayu's live dvd's are a little bit more worth the price since as HilaryDuffFanboy mentioned, Love is born 5th anniversary does not have many costume changes, light shows, etc...These Anniversary concerts seem to be low-budget and just fun fan gatherings to celebrate Ai's anniversary.
I did not realize the expense for these latest DVD's until I read here and I'm shocked that Avex would do that. They see how well her previous DVD sold and are probably trying out the new price. It's all business within the music industry, they really don't care about fan's expense but rather if they can make more profit off them. The only way I see of them fixing their ways if there is a drastic decline in DVD sales.
Cdjapan listed the Limited Edition to consist of a bonus DVD featuring footage from her live performance on October 5, 2008 in Taiwan. This is a bit ridiculous. I would prefer backstage footage, preparation, other more exciting features. Also, Limited Edition will have Digi-pack specification. |

it is an interesting idea to base the DVD price on the number of costume changes. i can think of some artist who would have expensive DVDs on that basis. i sometimes wonder when i see some artists (no names) use excessive multimedia, costumes and dancing whether the intent is to provide a distraction from the singing and the music. fortunately, Ai's strength is her singing and music so the absence of those things mentioned draws attention to her best attributes.
i always think of the Anniversary lives as small-venue performances. if they were filmed in a small hall, nobody would think twice about how it was staged. the practical reality is there would be too many disappointed fans if the venue was too small. so my suggestion is think of it as a small-venue performance and it is entirely appropriate. i think a no-frills concert gives it a more intimate character.
as for the Taiwan performances in the Limited Edition - i will take that any day compared to backstage footage.
yes, the DVD prices are relatively high, but i sometimes think about the idea of going to Japan to see her live show, so a DVD is hundreds of times cheaper than that. if the price is an issue, just wait for the overseas version to appear on YesAsia for half the price. |

^Well not to base the price on the number of costume changes, simply making a point how LOVE IS BORN's production costs wouldn't have been as high as say the LOVE PiECE tour.
I think avex is making a point with Ai DVDs. Her sales have going lower and lower and especially with DVDs, only fans are going to buy it, so avex are just going to charge the maximum usual price. |
