I'm reviving this thread, mainly 'cause I'm interested in what people NOW have to say about their names (that's right, flintandtas, I'm lookin' at you Evil Tongue)

Well, I've kinda forgotten why I used "Koda" in the first place but mainly it was for 2 reasons:
1. I was maaaad obsessed with Koda Kumi when I made my account Tongue
2. It also comes from the word "coda" which means "a tail" in Latin, and is used to describe something at the end of the a music piece. An example I can think of is at the end of Ai-chin's "Happy Days" when the music stops from a split second and then starts up again; that's an example of a coda.

I still think it's kinda cool...though if I could change it, I would change it to my artist name, KANON. Smile

^That isn't really a coda haha..I could call a coda the instrumental part at the end of Sensu or the ending of Cherish

I wouldn't change my user name since it's my real name Laughing

I always have problems with choosing my username. Pamagirly7 coms from:
pa - first two letters from my surname
ma - first two letters from my name Tongue
girly - Ai-chan's song (I didn't even know that song then, that was the first song name, that came to me)
7 - I just love this number, and it's very often in my usernames

Everyone here may know origin of my username at the very first read. Laughing
It cames from 愛ちん's bunnies Choko (チョコ) and Kokoa (ココア) . Wink
I chose the original rōmaji Choko & Kokoa rather than the English Choco & Cocoa. Smile

@Koda: Yeah..It's difficult to tell what is a coda xD But I had a dicussion with my theacher about it..so I kinda know.

The ending of Happy Days is just a repetition of the intro, while a coda is the ending of a piece that isn't repeated through the song Smile

(A coda is not only at the end of a song, but at the end of a piece, some songs have many pieces but that's mostly for classical music)

"kanon" in Swedish = "cannon" (weapon) and "canon" (musical term)
but it's also widely used to describe something as fantastic/super/awesome/terrific... like "man, this album is kanon!", though i guess it's maybe not that in anymore.

Nice stories, something about us Americans which is quite boring Tongue ...if any one knows my musical fave, you know where it came from, Love plus I really like the name and lastly one site I joined said my name needed at least 6 characters, if hitomi was taken, I would have tried Otuska, bet that would have been taken too! Nod

HEY... I better be the hitomi you're talking about! Sakuranbo

@Koda - oohhh I was so enjoying being the mysterious flintandtas Blank stare Angry grin Angry grin ok, ok, I relent, its just a combination of two of my favourite characters from my favourite fantasy series of books (DragonLance). Actually I'm slightly surprised no-one here has recognised the name as there quite a few people who enjoy reading fantasy type novels, and DragonLance is definitely one of the best and is also insanely popular. I'd recommend it to anyone Love Love

Flint Fireforge (January 11, 203 AC – 352 AC) is a fictional dwarf character in the Dragonlance series of books. He is the second of thirteen children. He was born and lived in (for a time) the village of Hillhome. His ancient ancestor was Reghar Fireforge, a renowned dwarf. His parents' names are not known, but they are referred to as Mama and Father by Flint.

Tasslehoff Burrfoot (tas-sel-hoff būr-foot)(December 2, 313 AC - Summer, 383 AC) was born the son of unknown parents, but does have a little sister. Tas grew up with his parents and sister until 341 AC, when at the age of sixteen, he got the Wanderlust itch. He had a cousin Latchlifter Furrfoot, Uncle Remo Lockpick, an Uncle Bertie, and an Uncle Wilfre. He may have had an Uncle Trapspringer Furrfoot, but many kender claim relation to Uncle Trapspringer so this might not be true.

@flintandtas: Oh wow that really is interesting Tongue I love fantasy...but I've never taken the time to read Dragonlance. I read pretty much all of David Eddings' stuff though Smile

@mangomalte: yeah my artist name has something do with music but not the way you suggested...it's actually from English "canon" which means "having significance to" or "being important to" and music is an important part of my life Tongue

also, just throwing this out here, if you take the Japanese onyomi (Chinese pronunciation) of the character for fire (火; ka) and put it with the character (kunyomi, or Japanese pronunciation) for sound (音; non) it makes "kanon"; literally, "the sound of fire" Tongue (yeah...I'm a lamer Laughing).

@flintandtas: Oh that was relly anticlimatic for me = = When I first saw your user name I was thinking like "flin-tand-tas" and thought it sounded interesting. Now it's just "flint and tas" Laughing

@koda: Aaahh sorry to rain on your parade but I think you meant 'on' and not 'non'. So 火音 would be pronounced as 'kaon' if you were to pronounce it the way you saw it Sad 'sound of fire' still sounds nice Smile

And for those that missed out my last post here and actually care (ie no-one) my username features my initals (s-l-j) and inu, shortened from Inuyasha. Yes, it means 'dog' and yes, it's only meant to be an anime reference.

@Koda: ha, i thought you were thinking about using the name Kanon because of Wakeshima Kanon. i noticed some people here listen to her and i guessed you might be one of them.

@sljinu: tsk tsk. careful what you say before you've made certain you're right. Wink 'on' is the onyomi reading of 音, but as Koda said, '-non' is a kunyomi of it. although 'oto' is more usual. for example, Wakeshima Kanon's given name is written 花音 (ka-non). Smile

@flintandtas: despite being a fan of the fantasy genre... i can honestly say that i haven't only not read that series, i haven't even heard of it... in any case i never considered your username as a combination of words, not noticing the "and" in there for some reason, lol. and for some even stranger reason, the first thing i thought of when i saw your name was Utada, because (u)flintandtas. yes, i'm weird. Laughing

speaking of having your username connected to Japanese words, i have a couple of those. usually people just call me mango, and obviously マンゴ means just mango. but then some times it's been connected to 'mengo', the backwars way of saying 'gomen', sorry. and a couple of times i've even been called マンコ... Blank stare i don't like that i'm just a couple of tentens away from that word... gave me quite a shock when i found it out.
