^That's true. Just because Ai's going to make an appearance at her concert doesn't mean a collaboration is in store. Even if they do sing together. Took Koda Kumi & Fergie awhile, I remember they had a photoshoot over a year ago (possibly longer ) There were rumors for months upon months & it was only til a year & half later that there was an official announcement.
Regardless it's promotion for ai to be in the news, & good promotion too Avril's popular, so that's also good. Imagine if ai had declined the offer and then Avril asked someone else, The article would say So and So it going to be a guest at Avril concert, Otsuka Ai was asked first but declined for reasons unknown (that would of been bad promotion) I mean she has the right to decline so saying no doesn't result in bad promotion but by saying yes it shows Ai's not vain, in being a "Guest" instead of the star like Ai Ostuka's concert and Avril is the guest. It also shows Ai's open minded I can think of some artists that would of said no (oh And I know that Avril and Ai didn't personally talk about it but whoever handles these things )
Anyhow I love Ai Otsuka, and I like Avril I've got her 3 albums It's pretty cool Ai's making an appearance at her concert, If they later have a song as long as it's good then I'm happy And as long as Ai' stays true to herself, I'm happy with her music. Now I would be more upset had I read she was doing an actual collaboration with a rapper or someone that I really don't like ala Britney Spears Then I'd be here whining & complaining |

Good combination or not, it's still an interesting one ,
I can't wait to see what chemistry can be created with such unusual combination.
I'm not too worried about the outcome, becoz both Avril and Ai are highly creative and shares the same passion for music. I'm very sure that they will work it out fine!!! |

except no one liked that collaboration...all it gained was attention from the media. Did you know how much hype it generated when Yuna Ito and Celine Dion were gonna sing a duet? And then the Fergie and Koda collaboration, it was one horrible song.
What HiliaryDuffFanboy is trying to say...is that these collaborations with western artists are just extremely horrible and this might ruin Ai-chan's reputation
Whoah... you're not really sure of that. Majority maybe but there will still be a minority that will like the collaboration. I actually know a lot of people whether J-pop lovers or not ( I proudly presented them the video) who liked the collaboration between Fergie and Koda and who are seriously thinking of starting with J pop. Besides the collaboration between Yuna and Celine wasn't just hype. Many people actually bought the collaboration version or whatever that was. What I mean to say is that I know many people who like the collaborations so it can't be true that everything is just media and etc.
And besides western stars aren't horrible. So are their collaborations with asian stars. but like I said everyone has different opinions. |

Ok, on previous collaborations with the western world, Celine Dion is unarguably one of the most popular. With Fergie and Koda, well, they were friends and even though their song was crap, I don't hate Koda for it or anything.
WIth Avril however, well cmon, she's Avril Lavigne, who cancels concerts because her ticket sales are low, who stamps her foot and acts as if something is wedged up her anus permanently. She is so up herself and barely has any respect for others, even her fans. She's married to some guy from Sum41 who publicly proclaims he has sex with groupies next to his band mates while they were on tour.
In Japan, Ai collaborating with Avril would probably only make people buy the single. I can say for sure such a single, if true, would outsell Rocket Sneaker by twofold at least. However its the whole idea that such a thing is happening I can't stand. I don't see how them two are compatible and the end result would just be a waste of a song when Ai could have done another solo single which musically would most likely have been more pleasing to the ear. |

I understand what you mean. But songs like what Avril makes is what's pleasing to the many. At least I think so. But yeah... Honestly another ballad from Ai would have been better. I think that's why we all fell in love with her.
Oh and their private life is something we shouldn't give a damn about. |

Agree with that there. You shouldn't hate the artist just cos they have a really crappy personality. It's on a par with saying a singer is crap cause he/she looks ugly. It biases your opinion and make you hate everything else about them, but it's not about the music anymore is it? |

I think every Song of Ai is still wonderfull. Koda's and Fergies Song is bad (I can't understand that, i like the Song )? That musn't mean, that the Song from Ai-chan and Avril is bad too. But I can understand you. I think a bit, that western singers are gruop and asian singers a group. They're don't agree with each other (I mean Western M. with Asian M. and Asian M. with Western.). |

I wasn't born yesterday So I know all about "It's about the music and not their private life" I know that the music is what we should care about and that's all that should matter
But sometimes an artist's personality and their private life does get in the way of their music or talent (as in actors and actresses) It does, and you can't deny that. If there is a rapist are you going to listen to his new song ? or a pedophile? I don't think I'll be buying his next single. Now I know I got extreme there because Avril Lavigne is neither. But still, that's an example that would change anyones mind about buying the next album by that person.
Now In Japan it's not that common for someone to tarnish their image that much, but in America it's all over the place. And for me at least I wont be in line buying the new R.Kelly Cd or Britney Spears CD. Regardless of the type of music they bring out & whether it's a big hit or not, I wont be supporting them. They have tarnished their image in my eyes to the point that I would be a moron buying anything they bring out. So in their cases their personal life has affected their music.
If someone's not likeable as a person, it's kind of hard to look past that. I had no idea about Avril Lavigne acting that way. I like her music, now does it change my mind It certainly makes me look at her differently. It bothers me when people act childish, and stomping your foot around being a brat qualifies as childish.
Looks matter nothing to me really. If you got a good voice it's all good in my eyes. Some people don't like Stephanie because of her looks, I love her voice therefore I like her music, I don't let looks get in the way of the talent. Personally I don't even think she's ugly.
Looks are on the outside. It conseals everything that on the inside. Talent, Good Personality, Kindness etc. It's not your fault if you don't have the best of looks And you shouldn't be judged on that. That's being biased when you judge the book by it's cover.
To each is own. I think it's a matter of opinion, about the personality. If you want to buy music and dislike the actual artist. Fine. It's not my money. It's like irl, would you call up a person that you dont like and ask them to go to the beach with you? No. But for me it's like I can't stand this person why in the world would I want to have their music in my ipod I don't care what the music sounds like, cause you know what ? If I don't like the artist's personality, I probably haven't even listened to their music. And that's fine by me
As far as Ai & Avril. Ai chan I adore and Avril I'll figure it out - I personally feel that their music is different. I'll give it a chance, But I wont stop loving Ai-chan if the song is junk, Ku & Fergie's song was junk but I still like Ku, (I always disliked Fergie So my expectations were never high to begin with )
Long Story Short, Too Late. I apologize for going on. My Opinion ends here. |

It's not like Avril is the only star that's like that. I'm not defending Avril but it's true. Many western stars are being portrayed as childish and stupid by the media. That's mostly because that's the gossip people want to hear. Avril probably has her good sides. We don't really know her personally so I think we should think or research properly and not base our judgments on paparazzi shots or news from MTV. |

Ok, so bias and preconceived notions about Avril Lavigne aside. I dislike her voice and I dislike her music, and that is why I don't want Ai conforming to her style of music just to sell a few extra thousand copies for a single if this is going to go through. Nor do I want to see Ai start singing Girlfriend with Avril on stage or something.
If Ai is more like an opening act and nothing more, I'd be happy.
I believe that is all I have to say on this matter. |

Avril is not that bad..though I don't really like her either but every artist should be respected, yes?
Well...if this is true ai-chin might be later on be invited to Avril's live concerts in Canada!! yay!! (*dreaming)
Ok..but seriously, even if ai x avril is a really really super super strange combination, I would still be excited to see/hear their collab. |
