Oooh I <3 Chihiro Onitsuka. Someone from another message forum recommend her music to me three years ago. Actually it was the song "Borderline" to be specific but wow her voice is AMAZING.

I don't normally like a singer with such a deep voice but her voice leaves me breathless every time I listen to her. Another reason why I adore her so much is that she's such a fabulous live singer.

Here is an example of why I think that:

To date my favorite album from her is Singles 2000-2003 (the CD+DVD version). The DVD has a live concert from her. It's not a lot of songs but I listen to that concert for weeks while I did my chores.

She had a throat surgery (I'm not sure the whole specifics since I never knew about it until earlier this year) a year or so back and I felt it affected her vocals for a while. It was lacking the power she use to have, but I think she's slowly gaining those powerful vocals again.

Las Vegas wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be because of her health but her recent single Hotaru was a well done. I haven't heard of any recent news from her though I'd love to get around to picking up her latest DVD.

Thank you so much for opening a thread dedicated to her. Chihiro is one of my favorite artists. Love

I heard that she's in hiatus mode again, citing depression and health issues. can anyone confirm this?

*digs*

I meant to mention this a while ago but I kind of forgot until today.

Chihiro Onistuka is releasing a new single this week. It drops on May 20th, called "X/Last Melody"

The cover is out

The PV:

I'm not entirely sure what to make of it yet. For now, all i feel is that it's nice to see her rockin' it out again because I know she's capable and her vocals are nearly as good as before her surgery. I'm stocked to hear her sing this live. If her health is as good as everyone is saying these days, she'll tear this song to pieces. There's speculation that she's going to be releasing another album again but only rumors for now.

I found a quote regarding the PV from a fansite ....
Quote:
This video, directed by Kensaku Kakimoto, has been produced in line with Chihiro's novel idea of "body-sync," or expressing this musical piece solely by dancing, rather than ordinary lip-synching. This dance was arranged by Chihiro herself.
The guest dancer is Kaiji Moriyama, a world-class contemporary dancer who was reviewed by The New York Times as "an amazing dancer."
