Helllo,
my name is Wolfgang, from Germany, I am new to this forum, so please forgive me if I´m asking something that has already been discussed in the past... (and please pardon my English).
I have just received my copy of the 2007 I am best tour (the concert at Tokyo Int. Forum), and I am a bit confused - most of the time, I looks and sounds like Ai is lip-syncing, sometimes even the band does not sound live (the bras section definitely does not play live). Having seen other concerts, I´m really surprised - or am I completely mistaken, does Ai not lip-sync? I´d be grateful to anybody who could share same info about the topic.
Thanks a lot! |

Sure there are some sounds which Ai-chan can't make or are pre recorded.
But the most parts she does sing live and also the band also can't play every little tone but they do play most of the time. |

Sorry, that I answer in german ._. |

there is obviously a lot of pre-recorded material playing in the background of her concerts. with her vocals, it is mostly her own harmonies. although with the song pon pon it is the whole chanting chorus. interestingly, she doesnt even attempt to lip-sync that!
as far as i can tell, the only time she actually lip-syncs is 39:00 to 39:20 during Cherish, where the vocals have a layered and slightly distorted quality. the reason i think this is because the whole "dark" intro of this song sounds pre-recorded, so they would probably do this non-standard vocal bit as well.
so i would say that 99% of the lead vocals you hear are her singing live. 100% when she sings accompanied by her own piano playing. |

Wow~ Germany language looks so ancient! but wonder how you type ---> (ß, ö)
This topic remind me one of her frienger performance back in 2006 at utaban.
While she over play on the stage, her mic was away from her and her voice is still playin that shown she lip sync.
But that is because in that performance she require to jump and run all the studio to fully ultilize the enviroment and settings in order to bring a fun and exciting performance. And all this work! people who watch it give positive comments disregard the lip sync. Ai-chan only do lip sync when something like i mentioned has to do. (seemed like the mic away was done carelesly by Ai-chan. Like she don't care we will know she lip sync since we will understand why she lip sync and she know she has the skill! she just not using it in that day~).
But all this doesn't say she lack the skill to perform live just due to some jump here and there. Look at Ai am best concert, her frienger performance she jump here and there plus with those cute introduction of the band members and in the half way for sudden she forgot the lyric and this proven she did not lip sync and the performance is very great!
I can quarantee you that she lip sync only in certain occasion + understandable excuse.
Regarding the band pre-record is normal what? As I know it done by most singer personal bands and its not easy at all where it require timing and bunch of adjustment. (my friends who's also part of the band, have to learn how to play his quitar accompany by own record quitar bass in cd everyday by his so-called mentor and its damn hard) |

Just to reply really late,
I just saw the preformance of Freinger that Daniel Adi Putra mentioned.
I think she was lip-synching, but it didn't sound like she was lip-synching it the whole time.
I think that she either only lip-synched to that part, certian parts, or they pre-recorded her singing it live and she lip-synched to that. But they definetly didn't use the album version's vocals, which is better than her just using those. Plus, she would probably too tired to sing after being so hyper.
But I think that pretty much all the time, Ai-chan sings herself. Probably during some parts of songs (for example, the vocals in the middle of Cherish and the vocals in the middle of Kumuriuta, or the vocals in the very beginning of Sakuranbo) are probably pre-recorded because she can't use her real voice and achieve the same effect as the original song has. But for everything else, I'm 99.9% sure she sings live. She's a real professional.
Her voice has gotten a lot stronger than when she began her carreer and she sang live then, too, so she has every reason to show it off. |
