Update 10/4:
"Tokyo Friends The Movie" complete box set, movie only DVD (comes with special and standard edition) to be released on 2006.12.13.
Here's what's included in the complete box set:
- Movie DVD
- Special DVD
- Dorama DVD (3 disc)
- Sabakan original T-shirt
- Sabakan staff pass
- Booklet with postcards
The special DVD will contain the following features:
- TV spots, trailers
- Making of clips (outdoor shooting in Tokyo and New York)
- Cast interviews
- Premiere speech
For the movie only DVD, the special edition comes with booklet with postcards while the standard edition (first press only) comes with mail block.

Update 5/19:
The release date of a special "Tokyo Friends" single is confirmed to be August 2. This single will contain 4 songs, including the theme song of the movie, "Yumekui". This news was announced during the production announcement ceremony of the movie.

A special "Tokyo Friends the Movie Navigator Edition" (東京フレンズ The Movie ナビゲートエディション) DVD will be released on 19 July 2006, priced at 1,995 yen. The content of this DVD (AVBF-22836) includes:- Tokyo Friends episode I-V digest (about 80 minutes)
- Navigation of Tokyo Friends (about 5 minutes)
- Making of "Tokyo Friends the Movie" (about 5 minutes)
- "Tokyo Friends the Movie" special (probably some interviews with actors)

Update 3/16:
Tokyo Friends Movie will be shown in theatres on August 12, 2006. Of course, it will only be shown in Japan, but I guess we can anticipate the DVD and OST release in the near future.

Yes, they are going to release a movie for Tokyo Friends after the huge success of the DVD release. The information is released on avex group holdings main page, you can download the pdf for more details here (in Japanese).
In the pdf they mentioned about the new marketing strategy, that is opposite to the traditional "drama -> movie -> DVD" and "movie -> DVD -> drama" model, Tokyo Friends uses "DVD -> movie" approach. Interesting eh? 
Anyway, we can all look forward for Ai Otsuka to go bigger when the movie is released. She's hitting every type of media right now, first music, then drama, now movie! (she also has her own column in zipper and B-PASS magazine, and her own radio program called Otsuka Ai ai-r Jack) heh, she'll be the next biggest thing in Japan in no time! Go Ai-chin! (yeah, Japanese people called her 愛ちん)

Ai is in a drama?? Is this new news to anybody but me? That is amazing, I would LOVE to see it. Hopefully there will be torrents up somewhere soon!

After the drama, now comes the movie. Very nice ai-chin. (Ok, I'm going to start calling her ai-chin here, it's cuter than ai-chan ^^)
Yup yup. It's not like we don't want to buy the original. But the online purchasing is too expensive for my 'student-pocketmoney'. But I'll surely buy it, if it's available here, in Malaysia. |

I do believe part of the reason is due to the shipping cost of the premium box, but 50 US dollar more than its original price is just ridiculous. fyi, the original price of the DVD premium box is only 9333 yen, around 84.91 US dollar, but YesAsia is selling it for 135.99 US dollar.
