While searching for a way to delete my account, I only found threads like "I'm so sick of seeing inactive users" and one posted request to delete an account (which no one seems to have done).

Staff could solve both of those problems with a delete account feature. Or a FAQ with info like "email the staff here to delete your account".

In any case, is there anyone I could PM to have my account deleted?

the problem with deleting an account is you would need to delete all the posts by the user as well, otherwise the database would be inconsistent. but then there could be gaps in discussions that make no sense. or more problematic, if the deleted user is the owner of a topic.

it is better to just not use the account any more. if you want to announce this intention then you can make a final post in The Official Away Thread.

if you ever change your mind, you can simply come back.

There's just one problem with this thinking: my account has my real name in it. I need to remove this from the web. I don't want to have to act like a jerk, but it's a bit irresponsible for a forum to not have a delete account feature...

Please delete my account. I know it's a lot of work, but I really really need it deleted.

Eyn may be able to simply rename your username to something more anonymous. If you are concerned about anonymity in the future you shouldn't use your name as part of your user name. That way you are in control on your privacy instead of the site admin.

Yeah I know. I made this account when I was a teenager, though, and I didn't know then.

Renaming would be excellent. If it's available, could I have this account renamed to spookymari? (I'd actually like to use this forum if I could have my account renamed.)

Also, it would help to put this information in the FAQ. That accounts can't be deleted but if privacy is an issue see this thread or something.

I've seen Eyn (the site Admin) do it for another user so I know that it is possible. Eyn just isn't around very much. You might try sending a message through the site and hopefully it will get there via email. Or maybe Pon Pon can get a hold of him.

I've sent Eyn a message. Hopefully this can be resolved. Thank you for your advice. I really, really truly appreciate it. <3

In my opinion, I don't see why you need to delete the account in the first place.

Generally, yes...deleting all posts will only delete half your existence, but you've been a member for 3 years already with only 6 posts...no one knows who you are, how you look like...and by all means...if you didn't mention that username has your real name, no one would've known in the first place.

The simplest thing you can do is just tell us to delete your posts, create a new account and ignore the old account. No one will actually search for it, heck its actually quite hard to find a relation between your username and your real name ONLY if you post your personal information with it (Facebook, etc.)

Well maybe you never were stupid like me and let your RL friends know all your forum screennames, but I did.

Retroactively covering your tracks to prevent future employers from simply Googling your full name (because they pretty much all do) and having some, as they would put it, "weird Japanese site" come up is fairly difficult. It took years to have my name removed from my own websites (domains I pay for, own, and operate, etc.), and it still comes up on archive.org.

In any case, I'm still interested in at least renaming this account. Maybe it will take this result for me down to the next page in Google results.

Employers do not use such unprofessional tactics such as googling your name. Because Facebook is the social media norm, that is the first place they will check. Sure Google can pop up more than a couple hundred thousand results, but there could be hundreds to thousands of whatever your name.

Even the U.S government, the first place to check your profile is by checking all your social media accounts...Twitter is an even better source only because people stupidly update themselves every 10 minutes on what they are doing and telling it to everyone.

Just don't worry too much...unless the first 2 results linking to your Facebook and Myspace page with that username...then I will start to worry a lot more

I will try to contact eyn on this issue, but I haven't seen eyn online (because I'm on the other side of the world right now)...I'm sure the other mods will talk to him about this issue...but there aren't many mods LOL

If someone has nothing to be ashamed of, there is no problem. A few posts on Ch-Ai is a far cry from drunk naked pictures on FaceBook.

Besides, it isn't like your name is Mister Mxyzptlk. There are zillions of people with your name and it is impossible for the employer who know you from anyone else with the same name.

You fill out an application, any employer can find out anything about you for $50-$100...where you live, credit report, who you live with, neighbors, criminal history, work history, driving record, university grades...anything...

Ch-Ai...please. Employers aren't going to care in the slightest about Ch-Ai.
