If no one minds, can we just talk about the whole Zokkondition/LUCKY STAR single here? I didn't go through the official news thread, so I'm sorry if it's redundant for any of you to restate your opinion. I haven't been keeping up with Ai news. Anyway:

I didn't like Zokkondition very much. There's just nothing that really draws me in. She sounded nice, and the arrangement is fine and all. I guess it just sounds like the stuff from LOVE LETTER without really offering anything new to me, personally.

However, I adore the PV. It's quite possibly one of the best in her career, at least for upbeat songs. There were a lot of things I liked about it, but there was something about her acting that really got me. "Normal" Ai was morose and emotionless, doing everything in a sort of robotic way. "Star" Ai is vibrant and confident. At first I thought it was her inner self, but as the PV went on I started to interpret it as Ai of the future. She's the one that realized that she is a star, no matter what, and it feels like she's reflecting back on that time when her boyfriend proposed to her, like a play in her mind. For me, it's like saying, "Hey, you're amazing no matter what, but sometimes you need love to make you realize that". So I really liked it ^_^

With LUCKY STAR, the opposite is true. I love the song. For me, it exudes this upbeat and optimistic feeling with more of a laidback feeling than Zokkondition. The guitar isn't gratingly ostentatious, and the instruments in general just stick to the back. Her voice soars much more than in the other song, and I feel like she's more in her zone. I guess I've always been a sucker for midtempo and ballad songs from Ai, so that might be why. Plus the lyrics just have this nice feeling to them, for me.

The PV confuses me though xD It's just like she's in this weird Dance Dance Revolution battle in space Laughing

So...your thoughts?

This isn't the case with you, but I don't get the hate for this single in general. I have the sense that a lot of people seem to dislike this single with a burning passion Shocked. I think it's a good comeback single and I liked both songs. "Zokkondition" was just a carefree and enjoyable upbeat song and I was terribly in need of something like this Laughing. We hardly got any songs like this since "LOVE PiECE" and I was happy about that. "LUCKY☆STAR" was a little bit boring when I heard it for the first time but in the end I thought it was a catchy and fluffy pop song. I really liked the PV for it as well, I have a soft spot for creative and abstract videos like that. The PV for "Zokkondition" was good too, I especially like the story line and the overall idea Smile.

Of course "Zokkondition / LUCKY☆STAR" wasn't as good as some of her past works, but I think the haters will be speechless when "I ♥ ×××" comes out Evil!

LUCKY☆STAR was awesome both as song and especially as PV. even if the dance is lol, i love it. Smile
Zokkondition didn't really impress me as much as either song nor PV. i liked the story in the PV and the whole idea with it, but her outfits and wigs didn't really take me to cloud 9, so to speak. still, a good song that i should probably spend more time listening to. Smile

it doesn't beat any of her LOVE LETTER singles imo (closest call is Rocket Sneaker / One x Time, but OxT is too good Meow).

well i absolutely adore LUCKY☆STAR, at first i wasnt to thrilled by it but the more i listen the more i love it Love its such a lovely song with a meaningful lyrics and a pleasent arrangement Smile and the PV was pure fun. to me it seemed like cross between DDR and the World That Never Was from Kingdom Hearts 2 and a lot of the graphics (swirly smoke and stuff) reminded me of an old animated movie i used to watch, Yellow Submarine based off the Beatles song Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Zokkondition on the other hand is the opposite. when i first heard it i loved it, but now when i listen to it i get annoyied... her voice is a bit too off key for me. it was cute at first but after a few dozen listens its tiresome No sure i love rockish arrangements and the lyrics is really nice too but its just the deliberate off-key-ness that irkes me... i do still enjoy listening to it from time to time ... but i just cant connect with this song like i do other Ai-chin songs No
... cant comment on the pv since i havent seen it yet Embarassed

I like Zokkondition. A fun song. Not much else to say Love

I don't like LUCKY STAR that much. Nice melody but the chorus lyrics are well.. they don't make any sense. Probably the first time ever I'm annoyed by lyrics of a song. The song reminds me of Mirai Taxi, not a fan of that song either. No

Wow, I think it's really interesting that the people who dislike LUCKY STAR like Zokkondition, and vice versa. Why do you guys think that is? They both have similar upbeat moods and a guitar/drum-heavy arrangement, but we all feel pretty differently about each song.

If you haven't seen it, here is the PV for Zokkondition.

I think "Zokkondition" is more aggressive than "LUCKY☆STAR". Even though both songs are upbeat, "LUCKY☆STAR" is still softer than "Zokkondition".

I think both songs are very different, and also not my favourite songs by her. I can't wait for the full album. I love all her albums very much.

To me they were deserving to be album tracks, not singles... I didn't listen to it much and found it very very average overall.

Ah, talking about it, I'm still thinking that 「愛」 (Ai) Love and 「Cherish」 Love are deserve to be singles, not just as albums track. Sad

EDIT
But I understand that 「愛」 (Ai) is the peak point (the ending) for Aichin to introduce herself with 5 albums plus 1 best album. So the best place for this song is on the last track of the last "Love Period" album, LOVE LETTER. I understand that. Nod

I found with Lucky Star .... at first I liked it - thought it was nice, I'd guess you'd say without being special. I've found though that the more I have listened to it, the more I have enjoyed it Smile Smile Smile I actually quite love it now Love Love Love The PV was very enjoyable and fun, and I feel it matched the song quite well Boogie Boogie

Zokkondition as well .... my initial thoughts were it was good, without being special Smile Smile Smile My thoughts haven't really changed on it since then .... For the PV it also was quite fun and fit the song well Smile Smile I think some aspects of the PV could have been improved and I'm not a huge fan of the wig either ..... but it was still overall good Smile Smile Smile

Of course, for me I'm more biased to her ballads .... they really stir the emotions in me and I'm just dying for the I ♥ ××× release Love Love Love Love Love

but yeah, I agree with HilaryDuffFanboy, both those songs feel more appropriate as tracks on an album, rather than as a single release, but I guess with the associated promotions of Lucky Star it had to be released as a single, and couldn't be put off till a full album was ready Smile Smile

You know, that's really interesting. LUCKY STAR was already released as a digital single. I wonder why she decided to add it into a physical one. And since a lot of us feel like they're more like album tracks than singles...why release them?

I guess I'm trying to pry into Ai-chin's mind Laughing I thin she, more than anyone, is aware of her musical skills and what she can release as a strong single. So why choose these two? She's got oodles of self-composed songs...so why did these two stand out to her?

I think the decisions are made with the Avex executives and not by Ai herself. Both of them being songs used for promotional purposes (olympics, Slat) seems like the logical answer.

I don't think this single deserves that low sales.
It was catchy, and full of joy Smile !

I really think if it was released a few years ago, this single would be a little success, when ai-chin was very popular.

That's true. But I guess I like believe that Ai has some sort of creative license within the company, so surely she must have been the one to choose the songs for the Olympics? I mean, usually avex will say, "Hey, Otsuka-san, we have chosen you to create songs for the Olympics". And then she came up with something. I guess I'm just wondering, why pick or write these songs, when the songs don't seem to have much with the Olympics. Lyrics like "Marrying you from the bottom of my heart, my HAPPY LIFE♥" from Zokkondition doesn't really suit it at all, although I think LUCKY STAR is more suitable: "The chance to grab the star in my dreams!" Perhaps she just chose them based on mood haha.

Although if I was watching the Olympics here in the US and heard an upbeat song like... Jason DeRulo's "In My Head", while the song is catchy and upbeat, I'm pretty sure the lyrics would distract me Laughing Perhaps I over-analyze everything though haha.
