From left to right: Minzy, Dara, CL, Bom
2NE1 is a girl group signed to YG Entertainment based in Seoul, South Korea. They debuted in 2009 with the song "Lollipop" (collaboration with labelmates Big Bang) as an advertisement song. Their "legitimate" debut song, "Fire", composed by their producer Teddy Park, was released later that year and was met with positive reception from all around Asia. In July 2009, their "First Mini Album" was released, containing hit singles "Fire", "I Don't Care" and "Lollipop". 2NE1 went into hiatus after promoting their mini album until February the next year when they released "Nal Ddarahaebwayo" (Try to Follow/Copy Me). It was not until September 2010 that they released their first full length album, "To Anyone", containing "Nal Ddarahaebwayo" and other digital singles. They returned to SBS Inkigayo to promote "To Anyone", breaking tradition by performing 3 full songs instead of the usual one or two.

I have to say that I HATED 2NE1 until the release of "To Anyone", but I kinda like them now. They improved a lot and they sound much better during live performances now. They got prettier and better at dancing as well, Minzy turned into such a beautiful girl since "Try To Copy Me". Anyway, "To Anyone" is a good album and contains some catchy tunes. I actually love the 3 promotional songs, "I'm Busy" and the duet between Minzy and CL the best.
I'm still annoyed by 90% of their stans though, but whatever. It's about the music, not the people who like them. |

ALL stans are awful people (read: STans, not the regular, sane Fans ). Yeah, Minzy got less manly. Bom got more funny-looking since "Nal Ddarahaebwayo", though. Her hair in that video was very questionable. I'm just not feeling the magenta/red hair, to be honest |

Well, it's not that I dislike them because they live for 2NE1, but they tend to say stuff like 'All the other girlgroups copy 2NE1's ~totally unique and amazing~ style'. The whole 4minute VS 2NE1 Issue last year was so ridiculous. (4minute PWNS them anyway ) |

^ Not in my opinion. But this thread isn't about 4minute, nor is it a comparison.
I liked their first EP a bit better as an overall package. "To Anyone" had some really good individual songs, like "Sarangeun Ayaya" and "Pakssu Jeo". |

Glad to see a 2NE1 thread. lol I was thinking of making one after Channel-AI would be back up but at least this saves me from having to do that LOL

I have to agree though I didn't "hate" them. Just didn't see why they were so great. I felt their debut album was really strong, and I'm glad they waited and worked really hard on it before they released it. There were a lot of their songs that I did not like initially, but after this album and taking the time to listen to their stuff and reading on their work ethic in the industry, I have a lot more respect for them now.
They really are different from all the other Korean girl groups out there right now in the K-pop industry. And I welcome it because asides from some of the groups that I like, it's getting to be a bit much with some of the groups that feel like carbon copies of other groups.
I hear they might be trying to hit the American scene. Dunno how that will turn out because I know they've been to Japan for a bit ... but with the current Kpop girl group invasion right now, I don't know if they'll back away. Their English ain't bad; maybe they might be the ones to finally be able to break into the American scene unlike other Asian artists because they lean a bit towards hip hop but adding to own unique flavor to it ... |

Back in August, it was rumored that 2NE1 was to debut in Japan under avex. 2NE1 was recently confirmed to have been contracted under avex trax to release their stuff in Japan. Their avex site: http://www.avexnet.or.jp/2ne1/index.html as well as their YG Site in Japanese: http://www.2ne1.jp/ Good news or bad news?
For me, I don't know where this is gonna go. They could go down the road of TVXQ, which I hope they don't do, because they're still enjoying success in Korea. Still, it is a nice opportunity to branch out; I would, however, rather they went to another country, like maybe Thailand or Philippines, where they are very much followed and have pretty sizeable fanbases (Philippines especially; they've had 2PM, 4minute and some other groups perform there, met with huge response).
Ah, oh avex. |

I'm not sure if they'll be successful in Japan. 2NE1's Image is very fierce and aggressive, so I don't know if the japanese people can handle this. Most of them are still more into cute and innocent groups (H!P and AKB48 is a perfect example).
Anyway, 2NE1 will release a new song on Halloween! YG already gave us some Teasers:

EDIT: Never mind, it meant Korean time
I didn't expect this video to be so dark, almost gothic. Despite their weird costumes, they did look very pretty, especially Dara, even more so when she was crying The guy in the video is very handsome, like undead-handsome Though, if it had an actual storyline like in Go Away, it would've made more sense |

Pretty, but it doesn't fit to the song at all in my opinion. |

I finally got around to the Season 3 finale of 2NE1 TV I had on my TiVo and at the end CL said it was the end of 2NE1 TV and there wouldn't be a season 4. While the other girls were tearful CL had a bit of a smile so I thought it was a joke and she WOULD tell them that there would be another season after all but the episode then just ended with them all walking away from the handycam.
So no season 4. It was a fun show. |
