When I compare a song like Hoshikuzu, or Amaenbo, to her new songs like I <3 xxx, or Is, I can't tell if it is her style that has changed so much, or her voice. But the songs really sound different. Dont they? How old is Hoshikuzu?

Of course I know her voice and style both have changed a little bit since her younger years, but which one is it that gives the new songs their sound prominently?

Perhaps it is because she is using for English in her songs now.

her only (mainly) English songs are LIFE - LOVE CiRCLE and I ♥ , which i dont think are wholly successful. if she was more fluent in English then singing in English would be a more suitable option. 2 songs are not enough to indicate a change in sound.

for me, the quality of her voice has changed and improved over time. this could be due to a number of things, including professional coaching, practice, experience and perhaps physiological changes to her larynx as she ages.

but one thing that has remained throughout her career is the diversity of her musical style. there is no definitive sound i can associate with her music. just like how her visual image changes with each single, her music is also doing something fresh and new. about the closest she has come to repeating herself is Kingyo Hanabi and Kurage, Nagareboshi. but seeing as how these are two of her most brilliant songs, i dont have a problem with that. Smile overall, i would say her music is more mature now. LOVE LETTER is better than her first two albums for this reason. i dont listen to those very much these days.

Un, Perhaps the reason i thought she was changing was because I have been listening to her older songs, and just recently i started listening to Is, and I <3 xxx. And both of them sound different that her older songs.

Its kind of funny, Kingyo Hanabi is not a song i am particularly fond of, but Kurage,Nagareboshii is one of my favourites. But yeah, they are a lot alike.

Thanks for your input. =)

Every Ai-chin's song has their own distinctive voice than others. Smile
Well, maybe not all.

She used to sing with a higher pitch for her first albums, especially in love jam and love punch. It's lower now. But just a little ^^

I think that both have changed. Her voice is definitely stronger that her debut, I think, and she dips down into her lower register because she doesn't need to project that 'kawaii' look as much as she needed to before. Some songs sound like they could be pulled from earlier, like Kurage, Nagareboshi, but she's definitely taken more of an acoustic route lately. I love it all though, it's all distinctly Ai-like.

Both have definitely changed. If you listen to songs like Sakuranbo and pretty voice and then listen to kumuriuta or LOVE LETTER you can clearly the difference. And music style has changed as well. Not just the styles she chooses for her songs but the way she goes about expressing the styles. She still has fun energetic songs but even those have a more mature feeling than her earlier ones.

I think that both Ai-chan's voice and her style change, but it's all right, because no real artist allows themselves to be stuck in a rut and therefore do everything constantly in the same way Smile I like the way Ai modifies her image and style as these qualities remain adorable and positive no matter what, but still nobody gets bored.

As far as tone of Ai's voice is concerned, it's not as high as before. I agree with pon pon that this might have been caused by maturing and professional experience as well. I feel that Ai sings better and better with time. It's enough to listen to her live concerts to see the difference Smile One of the best examples is "Amaenbo": as it is a pretty hard song to sing, Ai performed it with some difficulty at the beginning of her career, but now this song is sung by her almost flawlessly Smile
