To be honest, after all the hard times I've gone through to get these (customs...more customs...), I sorta regret on letting these go. However, I also have another side of me telling me to sell the collection. This is not me trying to show off or anything...but I'm asking you guys several questions:
1) Would you be interested in buying my stuff?
2) Should I keep my stuff?
All of my stuff "could" be considered hard to obtain (unless you look around at auction sites, etc.)
They are either limited editions and/or first press which would come with the bonuses provided.
All my stuff still contains the ORIGINAL wrapping along with any promotional stickers that was on the plastic wrap. They were only played once or twice at most.
Here is the list of stuff:
Ai am Best (CD+DVD) FIRST PRESS - includes special packaging and "Ai" stamp
LOVE PiECE (CD+DVD) FIRST PRESS - blue case + photo book included
Ai am BEST Tour 2007 DVD Special Edition FIRST PRESS - photo book included
LOVE is BORN 4th Anniversary 2007 DVD FIRST PRESS - photo book included
LOVE PiECE Tour 2008 DVD LIMITED EDITION - bonus disc and photo book included
Price and shipping is unknown really...I'm not aiming to "profit" from any of this, nor do I wish to let it go for cheap.
Perhaps you guys can guide me on what to do

1) I'm very interested in buying them, but I can't afford them atm, these stuff are reallly good and deserve a good price (I only have LIB 4TH First Press)
2) If I were you, I will definitely keep them But "another side of you" tell you to sell them, maybe you have good reason to do that, I don't know! |

Why you want to sell them?
I think you should keep it. (Just a suggestion) |

Well, I'm jumping ship to the "new generation" of artists...but at the same time, if I sell this, I lost one of the most well-known artists on that generation (Ai)
I could perhaps keep it...but then I would have to start working my butt off to earn my money for new stuff.
Right now, my collection of CDs have grown pretty big (in my opinion), in June, I'm expecting 4 singles (3 of them are the same, but different versions) and 1 album...and my dad isn't really pleased that I "BUY" music when he obviously knows that I could download it...so I'm trying to keep my collection at a low profile |

If I were to advise you anything, I would say as follows:
1) DO NOT SELL THE COLLECTION. Why? Because you put great effort to collect these things and you spent a lot of money for them (which is highly materialistic argument, but still - we live in a materialistic world). I wouldn't let this effort and my haemorrhaged money to go away just because of a spell of bad mood, a whim or even heart-tearing depression. One doen't sell such collections. It's just wrong.
2) DO NOT SELL THE COLLECTION [2]. Why? If these things and Ai herself are associated by you with something painful (a love of your life which was as cruel to leave you or whatever), don't give them away, but find a closet or a box, put them in there, seal carefully and put somewhere you don't usually look. Let the package stay there for long, as long as you need. When your sorrow, pain and misery associated with the situation (and Ai-chin) vanishes, you'll look at all these CDs and DVDs with a fresh look and you'll be able to enjoy having them again. Believe me. You would cry as a wolf in desperation if you sold the collection and then realized that it wasn't necessary.
DO NOT DO THAT. IT'S JUST STUPID. WRONG. YOU CAN'T DO IT.
I remember myself selling the collection of the CDs of my once favourite band, The Rasmus. I thought I didn't like them anymore, I didn't listen to them anymore, so I decided to sell the stuff. It was a mistake. If something is or was your favourite, you'll ALWAYS be sentimental about it. I regret like hell that I sold my collection. Learn from my fail.
This is it. Once again - DO NOT DARE TO SELL THE COLLECTION, 1337rice.
Sorry if I sound a little bit harsh here It's just because I know how it hurts when you give sth away and then you eventually change your mind. You're hesistating, so I want to persuade you with all my might not to do the wrong thing I have good intentions after all... |

I would probably sell if it was me, cause I know i'm not into colecting CD that much especialy since we can have them in mp3, like your dad just said.
But seeing the way you are talking about it, it seems you realy enjoying colecting those things, and on top of that, selling them just to have enough money to replace it with something else, isn't worth it at all. If there is something you realy want to add to your colection, I sugest that you actualy "work your butt off" to get what you want. Even though it doesn't seems like fun, I can assure you that you wont regret it in the end. The rewards are even better when you work hard for them. |

I agree with most other posters. I wouldn't sell them. On eBay they aren't fetching a whole lot of money and the sentimental value is far higher, especially if Ai-Chin stays inactive and no new video products are produced.
Hang on to them, otherwise you will regret it later on. |

LOL wow, that's a lot of responses
Anyways, I just started working this week, and I calculated how much I earn per week, assuming that my hours are around the same. I could easily earn back what I spend...as long as I work 40 hours per week. But of course, working at a supermarket while I'm a Business Management college grad isn't the best thing (hence, working my ass off).
If you look at that picture, the first CD that I have bought was Ai am Best (which was supposed to cost around $47 something, but then customs kicked in and that album costs like high $60s). Otsuka Ai was pretty much the only thing I bought back then.
2009 was the Year of SCANDAL and Perfume, didn't spend a lot there.
2010 was a totally different story...AKB48 and Nishino Kana makes out a good half of my collection (4 more singles and 1 album coming up for AKB48)
So, anyways, I guess I won't be selling it...since I think none of you guys are willing to buy it off me.

Here's a little thing I learn from a friend about the Canadian custom:
Each person has a set amount of item they can ship in each year. If that person pass that amount, they'll start taxing it. So a way to get around this is to use different name (English vs Chinese name).
I've never got around to testing this theory cause by the time my friend told me I was all caught up with my Ai collection and was only ordering her new stuff periodically. |

really? It sounds similar to the overseas purchase limits (which depends on how many days you are gone and the spending amount you are entitled to)...but never heard that was the way to avoid it.
The method I use is gift option. I purchase my items, they get sent to my friend (my middleman lulll). Customs slips will always check it as "GIFT" as the option, and so far its working for the past three years.
What I find about Canadian customs is that they don't like EMS. I remembered that I ordered a DVD from HMV Japan, they mailed it with Japan EMS, and I get charged. |
