I'm American...but I don't usually get much crap from people when I listen to Japanese music...but that may be cause I'm half Japanese. Or it may be because my friends have come to expect such 'odd' things from me Laughing Either they've got the same tastes as I do, or they just put up with it. But I admire the people who continue to listen to what they want, or just follow their interests in general, despite what other people say. I'm glad you guys aren't afraid to be yourselves!

I am American, too~

At a Subway I used to work at, I would play my Japanese music through the store's stereo (I was a Shift Manager Wink ). I loved people's reactions to it. I was playing a Morning Musume song once, and these two guys came in. One said "Oh what kind of music is this?" to his friend. And his friend said "I dunno. But it sounds like they're rockin' " Laughing

Other than that, people don't give me any trouble with it. My friends listen to Jpop and other country's music as well as my family. And people I tell that I like jpop usually think it's cool/interesting

I'm American, but of course I'm not white so whenever I'm in a foreign country and I say "I'm American" they're all " Surprised You don't look it" and I'm all Blank stare

I'm mixed with everything (seriously) but my ancestors are from England and Spain. I look more islander than anything, and my friends growing up were Asian so I grew up listening to Asian music. Growing up I watched Asian tv and learned a lot of Japanese and some Korean that way. But I look really Hawaiian or like I'd be from that area, Pacific Islander.

Which is still in America so people don't know what they're talking about. pff...

People think it's bizarre. The first thing they say is "Why do you listen to stuff you don't understand?" I just leave it at that. I don't argue that I do understand because then they'd want me to prove it and I don't need to prove anything to them. People who insult my music taste loose me as a friend.

^ I am exactly what you just mentioned, except the England Spain thing. Mine is actually Hawaii and the Philippines. I was mistaken for Indian (from India) once though.

Hah, Hah I get quite a few strange looks Blank stare too for being into J-Pop, along with dramas, movies and manga. Actually noticed in the last couple months I'm the only American on the forum, hard to believe, Confused but then again I wouldn't be too shocked Shocked ... also tonight I'm into reviving a few of the old threads, enjoy reading thru them.
