Hikki is doing a very small US tour, some of the dates are already sold out. It's for the english album.

I wish I could go *sad face*

Check her official site for more info!

I heard about that as well, I think she is going to do some concerts in England as well, but I'm not 100% sure Confused.

Anyway, there are some fantastic news:

Quote:
Long time Utada collaborator Goetz B. has updated his site discography with an entry for a new Utada single titled “Show Me Love.” The sound mixer has worked exclusively on Utada’s Japanese works, so it seems likely that “Show Me Love” will continue that pattern and be released as a Japanese language single under EMI Japan sometime in the near future. Credits to Raito.

I will attend her concert on Thursday 1/21/2010 in Seattle.

I will try to get some good pictures and post them here. The venue is a small club versus a concert hall. I don't believe there is even any assigned seatings. I am not really all that thrilled with her latest English album which is why I am not extremely excited yet.

I do hope that there will be a lot of Japanese fans there that encourages here to do some "Hikki-chan" songs.

Okay. I attended her show last night and am happy to pronounce it was for more of "Hikki" than Utada. The security confiscated all cameras and took away cell phones of those who wanted try to take pictures. I still managed to take a few but you can't really see anything from it other than the Guitarist.

While waiting outside, Hikki's percussionist, Taku-san, was filming the people in the line with a hand held personal video camera. I was chatting with two sisters originally from Taiwan but who now live here. As he was walked by, I suggested they run up to him and ask for his autograph. I watched their bags and kept their place. They managed to catch him and he was very friendly. He gave them them his autograph on their tickets and posed for a cell phone photo with each. They promised to send the pictures to me, So I will be able to post them here. Nobody else in that entire line seemed to know who he was. I knew him from the video of MTV unplugged, Budokan DVD, and the United 2006 DVD.

As for the show, Hikki's singing was wonderful It was a good mix of Japanese songs and English. I would say that even the ones on her new CD that I do not particularly care for sounded good live. Hikki said that she is now getting used to speaking both English and Japanese to the audience and she did both, but most English, of course.

She began with On and On followed by Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (FYI) , Poppin, and This One (crying like a child) Her singing was very powerful and the room was very energetic,

Then she chatted for a while. My impression is that she is somewhat shy or protective about what she says. Her wit and style was friendly and humble. She teased some people in the audience that was holding signs written in not very good Japanese... She said... "that one says "aishiteru," told the person thank you and added, I'll bet you do not write in Japanese normally, but she quickly added, "that being the case, it is very well done" with a chuckle of her own. Many said she was hot or beautiful.. At this she said just a laughing thank you adding that we should see her when she wakes up in the morning! This chat ended by her asking if we might be interested in hearing some Japanese songs and the audience went wild (myself included).. This set was:

Passion / Sanctuary (Japanese vs. English mix, sung back and forth)
Sakura Drops (A capella with piano)
Stay Gold (also with piano, but also the band).

This was followed by a very powerful set of:
Devil Inside
Kremlin Dusk
You Make Me Want to Be a Man

It was extremely powerful and well performed much like it was on the United 2006 DVD.

This was followed by:
The Bitter End - Placebo cover
Apple and Cinnamon
Come Back To Me

Many of us had been standing in line and in the concert up to this point for about 5-7 hours and I was starting to get tired.. Luckily, they planned it well because the high point came right after that.

First Love- The audience went absolutely crazy when this one began. My new friend from Taiwan had tears in her eyes during this song.
Can You Keep a Secret?
Automatic (original Japanese version)
Then she played her last song which was Dirty Desire saying that it was about to be her newest single. She said if we listen to the Radio, please call and request this song "or however that works" laughing again.

As the crowd was chanting for her to come back by saying "Please come out" I tried to get a "Mo ikkai" chant started to no avail even though a few Japanese people around me joined. Laughing She came out soon enough and did two more songs..
Simple and Clean was very powerfully done.
At this point she did the band intro and finally said.. "And please give a big cheer for ME"
The last song was Me Muero. Again, this was well performed, but I'd have preferred that these two were reversed in order since Simple and Clean was a higher point for myself, and I think most of the audience.

I made many observations and have been thinking about them. I'll come back to post about them if there is an interest. I can honestly say that I am very glad I went, and her songs have been stuck in my head all day today. I remembered that Hikki-chan is a phenomenal singer. On the way home; however, I had a very, very strong urge to listen to Ai-chan's Ballads playlist at high volume, which I did. I think I know why and I'll post about soon.

^ Wow, I'm so envious of you! You got to see Utada live in concert! I'm not so sure I'd want to hear her songs from her latest album especially since she did not sing This One (Crying Like A Child) but I think I may still would feel more comfortable attending an English concert rather than a Japanese one.

Anyway! I think you're really lucky to get to see her live! Really jealous!! Laughing

Yes. I'd have never thought I'd get to see her in concert. Actually, she did sing This One (Crying like a Child) it was the fourth song and final one of the first set prior to Japanese set that began with a mix of Passion and Sanctuary.

I never thanked you for the nice write-up of the concert, Smily! It was super cool to read, and I'm really jealous you got to see her. The setlist looks really great, I wish I could have seen Passion, Simple and Clean, and Stay Gold...actually I just wish I was there for the whole thing! The Placebo cover is especially intriguing though, I always love how people interpret their songs.

And I'd love to know why you wanted to go on an Ai-chin ballad run after the concert. I figured you'd want to listen to more Hikki afterwards!

Hikaru Utada announced on her blog that she will be releasing a new best album titled “Utada Hikaru SINGLE COLLECTION VOL.2.” This happy announcement came with a bit of heavier news as well; the singer will be going on hiatus.

^ I can't say that I am completely surprised about this hiatus.

When I saw her in concert, I wrote that I had an urge to listen to Ai-chin soon after. Having seen Ai-chin live so many times on DVD (everything that she has released)... I could not help but get the feeling that Hikki-chan did not seem to be nearly having as much fun as Ai-chin seems to have. The concert was strong and intense but, for me anyway, it lacked the emotions and feelings that Ai-chin conveys over and over, in fact moreso each time.

It may be unfair to compare to Ai-chin, but it seemed more like "work" was happening. Of course both and most every artist works hard at what they are doing, Hikki-chan has achieved incredible success. Her most successful was her first and she has not come close to replicating it to this point. I happpen to like almost all that came after, but I can understand why she would want to step away for at least a period of time and just live a "normal" low key life. Maybe she needs to "recharge her batteries" or maybe she has achieved all that she wants and wants to move into a new private phase of her life.. Her mother did this a a young age, too.

Anyway, these are my thoughts on the matter.

^ i agree. think that maybe music has become more of 'just a job' to her now. and i think a few years away from it all will help her get back into it when shes ready to return. Smile surely she just wants to be normal for once, have a regular life, maybe give romance another try... Smile ... i know she said that the hiatus should be somewhere between 2-5 years... but i wouldnt be surprised if it was longer Sad

but shes definitly not leaving us empty handed. heres a bit of new music news Smile

Hikki-chan is releasing a new digital single on October 9th called Hymne à l'amour ~Ai no Anthem~ (Hymne à l'amour ~愛のアンセム~) ... heres a link to the promo pic (and might i say shes as gorgeous as ever) ... i would have uploaded it on image shack but it's being a brat and not letting me upload anything at the moment... hmm .... the song is a cover of Édith Piaf's song 'Hymne à l'amour' and the song will contain both french and japanese lyrics.

Boogie awesome~ Boogie i hope this will be one of the 5 new tracks on the second disc of her Single Collection vol 2 cd... im definitly gonna get it Nod
