I think it kinda depends. Some of her songs sound a little childish, like the ramen song (forgot the whole name, please don't kill me xD), but Aichin has also really mature songs, like Cherish and more.
Ai's voice fits both styles, mature and childish. |

I totally agree to this point, I think its great for an artist who has a voice that can sing both "childish" and "mature" songs. And our dearest ai-chan is one of them. |

ai's happy songs are what distinguishes her from many of the other artists out there that sings either only rock and ballads or fast paced and ballads. not many has rock, ballads, fast pace, AND happy gogo loving music like ai |

Well, it's not exclusively for children, but I don't see why kids wouldn't like Ai as much as we do. I think Ai appeals to young people of all ages! And as it's been said a few times in here, Ai's voice is childish for a few of her songs but it's also very soothing, mature, and powerful for just as many others. Part of the reason I adore Ai is because of that; no matter what mood your in there's an Ai song for you! Accept murderous; I can't think of a good Ai song for that one. |

Well, to a small extend her music is childish..
for example SMILY.. When my friend first heard the song she is like, "Such a childish song!" But when she saw the subbed version of SMILY PV, she changed her view, and instead love the song. haha..
But when listen to her ballads like Daisuki da yo, amaenbo... Who would say that her music is childish?
I think in a way the "childish-ness" of her song links to the tune of it. If one were to view and understand the lyrics and the meaning behind it (like Neko ni Fuusen), he/she can actually feel that Ai's thinking is deep and meaningful.
Well, this is what I feel. Ai's song like Sakuranbo, SMILY, Frienger, Happy Days, appeal to mi most when im upset. It never fails to brighten my day... Her ballads appeal to me too.. I love them all.. heehee.. =] |

I don't know whether her songs are childish or not. To me they are not, but to other people they are.
If someone wants to call them childish, then file, I will tell them that I am proud to listen to childish music!
What is most childish are the people who criticize other people because of the music they listen to. |

Yeah!
if ai-chin's music are childish, then we'll have to be proud that these 'childish' music that we all hear are the best music out there!
Go Ai-chin andshow the world that you're the best! |

I think it's awesome that she can sing both cute and mature songs...well. Not many singers can do that. She can be hyper and genki but she can also be melancholic and all. |

Yeah, I think it's kinda important.. Ai can sing both styles, so her music isn't always only "mature" or only "childish". It would get kinda boring, if her all songs were mature or childish. |

The more you try to look cool, the more childish you look like.
I definitely agree. I'm actually quite fed up with hip-hop taking over popular culture and sucking all the fun out of it. Like everything today has to be deadly serious (or at least pose and pretend to be...). As a blogger once wrote half-jokingly of Jay-Z, "He gets to bone Beyonce and do you ever see him crack a smile? No!"
The same way girls complain about the sexuality double standard, I also kind of see one in place for young guys: only women can have good-natured fun among themselves (as the Cyndi Lauper song states...)
If your friend's 1st exposure to Ai was via songs like "SMILY" or "Sakuranbo" then yes, I can definitely see him dismissing her as childish. But as discussed here, she does have a mature side in her ballads and some interviews.
I think the "Happy Days" song and video really bridges the 2 sides together. It's a song about love and the lyrics are admittedly kind of sappy, but disguised as a rocker! Images of her jumping around with her band and the pink megaphone is constrasted with her alone in a field at sunset.
Even I dismiss other J-pop as too childish. LIke Chieco's "Candy Baby" and most H!P stuff. I even find "Kataomoi Dial" childish; maybe it's the arrangement... |
