Time for my two cents!
I read the book before I ever set foot in the theater. This is what I always do if I find out that a movie that is coming out is based on a book. Of course, I also had already made plans to read the book, but that's beside the point. I LOVED it. It was one of the best books I've read in a long time. You keep turning the pages, not wanting to put it down. You're completely immersed in this world. It was amazing!
After reading this book, I went to see the movie with really high expectations for it. I was so let down. I had no gripes with the acting, or anything like that. I just hated the way they completely butchered the story. I would go into detail on the many millions of things that I hated about the movie, but that would take forever, and I don't want to spoil it for anyone. It's still a great movie, it will just never live up to the book.
I do have to mention that the soundtrack was absolutely the best I've heard in a long time. John Williams, Yo-Yo Ma, and Itzhak Perlman = sheer beauty. I listen to it frequently on my iPod to chill out. Amazing stuff. |

The only thing about the names is... that in the book, they have translated them into danish, meaning, Pumpkin was "Gręskar" so I was used to the danish version of the names. but they kept the english version of the names in the danish subs, in the movie. Then I had to get used to, that Gręskar was Pumpkin and etc.
I never imagined they would cut soo much out of the movie. If I haven't read the book at first, I would probarly like the movie better, because then I couldn't see what's missing. There's also missing too much, from her childhood.
My mom said she felt the movie were too long. I thought it was too short, maybe because I could see the things that should have been there, but wasn't there. |

I finally watched this movie!
YAY
I like how the Geisha performand dress up in pretty kimonos
The ending was so beautiful~ I want to read the book now
However, I don't like how they made Geisha look like prostitutes
but some of them might have been but still
Geisha are very elegant people~
Also, how Pumpkin betrayed Sayuri was just wrong...
Pumpkin holds strongly to he grudges >"< which is not a good thing
The movie kind of disappointed me
Everyone said it was SO GOOD but I beg to differ
it was okay...it wasn't a crying movie...i love crying movies |

Yeah I also thought the movie was beautiful, but so-so. I really like the book MUCH better! It's was such a joy to read. I read it so many times I memorized most of the lines haha. The way it was written was really beautiful, almost lyrical. You should definitely read it. x3 |

I've read the book, but I haven't seen the movie yet. I really liked the book, the author made it seem so real! I didn't ever want to put it down! I was dissapointed to learn that it wasn't real, only based on facts from the time... I still love the book, and I plan to see the movie once it comes out on DVD. To bad I was to late to see it in theaters... Oh well I'll get to see all the special features that the DVD has.

I've got to agree, if there's one word that defines the book, it's atmospheric. You delve into the life of Sayuri and you very much laugh and cry with her throughout her ordeals (and loves). Your inner heart screams for Mr Chairman to return her emotions, yet you empathise with figures like Nobu and even Sayuri's arch nemesis. Top notch. |
