goodness, this is an incredibly late post, but ive been looking for osmewhere to expres smy opinions on this movie:

(book was ok though)

my review:

this obviously a movie made to appease the average american, and obviously made, by below-average americans. for one, some people need to realize that alot of us can see the difference in asians. but that doesnt really matter, afterall, if it was subbed in english with japanese actors speaking japanese, then it would have been so painful and unrealistic to watch *ahem, sarcasm* but still it doesnt not matter, the actress, though chinese, did a good job.
the few japanese phrases thrown in there didnt make it seem anymore real, especially since pronounciation is totally lost. hmm.....
and when she says "honorable sister" there are 2 things that make me get flamey:
~obviously a stereotype that just HAD to be fufilled. Blank stare
afterall, what honorable asian doesnt honorably say the honorable word "honorable" honorably? Blank stare
~this obviously a translation for "o~" i guess that means 「お亡くなり」 means honorable death, and 「おちんちん」means honorable "downstairs area"

all in all, it was an ok movie, if you dont know anything about japan or just dont mind thinking "but wait thats not right" through the whole, though its not like it wasnt enjoyable, just had a small touch of something that made me think this happened during the production of the movie: "ok, so when you think "geisha", whats comes to your mind?" *pause* "chinese prostitute!" "oo thats a good one" No
but yeah, the movie was ok.

Oh I love (and own) this book! I haven't seen the movie for fear that it will ruin the book. One quote I rember is "the stars this evening will pour there silver light from the window" it sounds so cool.
