I really like my name because it's simple and extraordinary (anyway, here in my City XD;)
I think in Spain the word is used for a small harbour XDD;
But I think the name originally comes from Russia but I heard

It doesn't come from Russian at all..

'Mare' in Latin means sea; 'marinus' is the adjective of this, 'marina' is the female form of the adjective, directly meaning 'of the sea' or 'relating to the sea'.
Not only in Spanish but in Greek and Italian marina means the tip of the harbour, and it is used as a name as well.

Also, the word has many derivatives in English: the submarine (=below the sea), to marinade is a way of cooking without using oven/fire/grill/etc, the American soldiers called the marines, and marine is an adjective itself used i.e. Poseidon/Neptune is a marine deity.

And yes, Marina can be a Japanese name. ^^

Lol, that's ok.. I don't think I've met anyone with interest in linguistic stuff o.o
Knowing Greek and Latin helps me getting at the words backrounds, especially of Εnglish that is a intermixture of different languages, from the modern to the archaic.
Haha, I'm a bit weird XD

o_o; nooo~ you're not weird!! It's okay that you are interested in this stuff ^^
it would be boring if everyone is interested in the same stuff, ne >D?
I only speak german (of course my native language >DWink, english, french and spanish
^^; so I can't get at the words backround so easily because most of the words
comes from greek and latin I think ^^;

Yeah thats true, Greek and Latin have either been the base or have extended many European languages.
I know Greek since its my native language, and then I only know English ><" you know so many languages, go you!
When school will finish I will work with this hobby of mine more precisely, of course I will include Japanese in my knowledge ^_~
- And you're right, the interests apply to each of our uniqueness so we're not boring ^^

Haha, yeah I'm Greek and live in Greece ^^"
Maybe you find hearing Spanish and Greek nice because both they're "open-mouth" languages, and German is not, so you get somewhat fascinated of the sound.
I completely understand you about no Japanese courses.. it's so hard to find.. probably I will get a tutor to come to my house and teach me, yeah I guess this will be great. I plan starting my Japanese this month, so I will have it scheduled around the end of it lol
hmm, but maybe we should stop this since we're quite off topic, and eyn will go nagging lol well he won't, but hey XD
