Im happy as although I have no Japanese whatsoever I worked out the broad meaning of the song from the inflection - but the words are so much nicer!
thanks! |

Shouldn't it be
Japanese
行きたいよ君のそばに
小さくても小さくても
一番に君が好きだよ
強くいられる
願いを流れ星にそっと唱えてみたけれど
泣かないよ届くだろう
綺麗な空に
English
I really want to go and be next to you
Even though you are really, really small
I love you the most
I can be strong
I suddenly try to make a wish on a falling star
Maybe I’ll reach the point where I don’t cry
In a clear sky.
It makes a lot more sense this way, not to forget the Japanese language is more prone to leave out "You", not "I", at the beggining of a sentence. |

Before I respond to the main topic, this is in response to Channing...
Isn't Japanese more prone to leave out "I" and not "You." Exactly reverse of what you said? When someone says something like "John desu" usually it means "I am John" and not "You are John."
I read over the translation to Planetarium on this site and the translation looks extremely odd to me... so I did my own translation. I'm not saying that my translation is the correct one, so you don't have to take my word for it. My translation is as follows:
The moonlit evening begins to show,
The sounds of children have disappeared,
In a far away place, you are somewhere in these skies I wonder?
The two of us snuck away at the end of summer,
It was at this park where we found that constellation,
Somehow I still remember.
Even though I am not able to see you,
I am still able to look forth at the memories,
How I wish we could share the same happiness together,
With a “boom!”
The scent of such happiness coupled with the fireworks were released.*
I really want to go to where you are,
I wish I could immediately run to where you are,
It’s so dark I can’t see a thing,
Even though I am scared,
It’s fine,
Countless starry nights will always be here right?
I won’t cry because the skies will always be as beautiful as the time I saw them with you.**
At the end of that road,
There is a sound of shoes that is left in my ears,
I think to myself,
”Someone’s watching over my large shadow right?”***
Even though I don’t think much has changed
A painful feeling swells up within me,
No matter what I think, you’re no longer here.
I really want to be by your side,
No matter how little,
You’re still the one I love the most,
I still need to be stronger,
Though I had chanted on a shooting star for a wish,
I won’t cry for it should reach that beautiful sky.
Translations Notes:
* The original lyrics mention only the word scent. But I feel that she is talking about the sweet scent of happiness. Who knows, I could be wrong.
** What Ai is says literally is 泣かないよ昔君と見た 綺麗な空だったから. “I won’t cry because this is the sky that I saw with you a long time ago.” Essentially that whole line of lyrics was saying that, it may be dark and all but when she looks up the stars will have not changed and it’s a sense of security, because those are the very same stars that she saw with her past lover.
*** I’m not too sure, but I think over here, the sound or noise that she speaks of is probably the rustling noise of her past lover following her, in a sense, “watching over her and seeing her large shadow.” It's also because of this statement that leads me to believe that this guy that she loves is dead.
(I've done some other translations of other songs over at xanga.com/songlovepiano, all those interested feel free to stop by) |

that song is so beautiful
whenever my friends hear it, they say, "wow it sounds so depressing"
it really isnt that depressing though, is it?
well, think whatever you want about it, i think it's beautiful, and it sounds like it's a song full of feeling and longing to be with someone

maybe the guy fom daisuki da yo? seriously, how many lovers can you have that have died when you have just recently turned 24?! *sigh* are either of these songs true? did ai-chan really lose a lover(or lovers)
if so, im so sorry |
