First of all, Ai hasn't released any single or album in those format. You can have a look at her discography page to know everything about singles and albums she's released so far. Remember, official site is always your best friend. Tongue

As Rinoa has pointed out, ayu has several release that's in DVD-audio or SACD format, beside MY STORY and RAINBOW, her CAROLS single is available in both SACD and DVD-audio format.

My Story DVDA arrived today, if you're an Ayu fan you really, really, need to hear this!
Some DVDA/SACD mixes are a bit rubbish but this is easily one of the best I've heard Boogie
Hopefully Ai's releases will get the same treatment soon!

Just exactly what is DVDA/SACD? Isn't it just DVD audio... therefore it is higher quality? I don't understand when you say 'mixes'... the songs are remixed?? Confused

Both are higher resolution formats for playing music and have been around for a few years but haven't really taken off.

DVD Audio is a format that uses the extra space of DVD over CD to store more information. By comparison music on CD is recorded in stereo at 16bit/48khz. DVDA can be in 5.1 channels with a resolution as high as 24bit/192khz. Additionally, the sound is not compressed like the Dolby Digital and DTS formats used for DVDs, it uses a format called MLP (Meridian Lossless Packing) created by the HiFi manufacturer Meridian, known for their 'very' high end gear. Video can also be stored on the disk.
Note: DVDAs usually include a Dolby Digital or DTS version of the album so they can be played in a normal DVD player but you will need a DVDA player to hear the advanced resolution tracks.

SACD is a format created by Sony and Philips. Different technology is used but as with DVDA the album will usually be in 5.1 sound at a much higher resolution than CD.

Although both are formats for playing higher quality audio in more channels there are technically quite different. The main differences between the two are as follows:

SACD does not support video.
SACDs play in any player but you need a SACD player to hear anything other than the normal CD version.
DVDAs will only play in DVD and DVDA players.

Most albums are remixed to make use of the additional channels sometimes for extra ambience and sometimes for cool effects. The first track on My Story for example has a lot of the funny little background noises swirling around the room and Ayu's voice appears to be in the center of the room!

Anyone still awake? Tongue

If your particuarly interested then have a look at the links I posted at the top. If not then carry on enjoying your music as normal Nod a great album is still a great album no matter how many channels it's recorded in Tongue
