Yes, you should. I use it and this method is so far the best. Lately I've ripped many things and all of them thanks to eyn's instruction. Thanks, eyn!
If you're confused, here's a short explanation:
1. DVD to VOB file ---> use DVD Shrink (i didn't use this but it should work)
2. Cut/edit VOB file ---> use VirtualDub-MPEG2
3. VOB to AVI ---> use VirtualDub-1.6.17 (maybe other version, but I use this one)
4. Cut/edit AVI ---> use VirtualDub-1.6.17
5. In order for your computer to open these various files, you have to install codec pack first (K-lite mega codec pack or CCCP, I recommend K-lite. I used to have CCCP but it was not enough).
I don't know if you want to convert from VOB to AVI or not. But if you want to watch it in ur ipod maybe you want to make the file smaller? For example I had a VOB file which was 900+ mbs (15-20 minutes playback). When I ripped it into AVI the file's become 230 mb. The difference is about 1/3 and the quality doesn't significantly decrease (I'd even say I don't feel the difference).
If u have any problem please ask. |

If you want to go from DVD direct to IPod, there's a program that will convert DVD direct to IPod-compatible video. It's called InterVideo DVDCopy 5. Works like a charm and saves a lot of steps.
*edit* Just tried it, ripped Biidama PV from the Smily single mini-DVD, took about 8 minutes and ended up with an 18MB MP4 file that looks great |

Hmm...sounds like it'd work, but also sounds like it'd take a while. About how long does it take you? Plus, I dunno if I wanna download all those things...
@ AnimeDad
Oo, can I just google that, or could you give me a link to download that program? And, it can rip things that aren't just PVs, too...right? Say I wanted to rip a movie DVD...that should work too, right? Thanks! |

No, it will rip anything. Not sure about copy-protected things though.... For the Ai-chan PV, I just selected one of the tracks. It gives you the option of selecting "main Movie", "All" or "Custom" (I think, i'm at work now).
Since I had an .iso of the DVD, I just used Daemon Tools to mount the DVD image (.iso) to a virtual drive and selected that drive in InterVideo as the source.
If you have a copy-protected DVD, you can use DVD Decrypter to make it into a non-protected .iso image and use Daemon Tools to mount the image to a virtual drive as above. If not, just use your comp's DVD drive as the source. |

^ Hmm...'cause I bet Disney protects its. So the DVD from Ai am BEST should work then, right? I mean, I bought it...shouldn't I be able to put it on my own iPod instead of illegally downloading it??!?!?! Well, I hope it works...
Wow, all that sounds really complicated... When I actually get to doing it, I might need you to help me...
EDIT: Ok, I downloaded the trial version of that program, and installed it. It's says that both Ai am BEST and my Yumekui DVD are copy-protected. My YUI one probably will be as well...

If it is...then I'm gonna need help with what exactly I'm supposed to download, since there are many different d/l links on there...and then we'll take it from there, I guess. |
