Biyuuden

I’d like to share with you a semi-new group in the Hello! Project: Biyuuden. Biyuuden is made up of 3 girls: Rika Ishikawa, Erika Miyoshi, and Yui Okada. Rika is a former Morning Musume member, while Erika was chosen in a 2003 Hello! Project audition, and Yui was one of the many girls that advanced in the Hello! Project “Egg” Audition.

Biyuuden actually have a meaning behind their name. 美 bi beauty, 勇 yuu bravery, and 伝 den legend. Their name can also be romanized many ways: Biyuuden, Biyuden, Viyuuden, and v-u-den have been used.

Their first single was released in September, 2004, which is titled Koi no Nukegara. It is a mature, mid tempo song, which can be described as either poppy or rocky. Their second single, Kacchoiize! Japan was quite the opposite: an upbeat song which has been said to sound like an anime theme song, which has traditional Japanese written all over it. This song was also the song for the Visit Japan Land campaign by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. So you can probably tell that Biyuuden are very versatile with their songs. Another great thing about Biyuuden is that a lot of their songs are composed by people other than Tsunku, the producer of the Hello! Project.

Their 4th single, Hitorijime, released on August 10th, is another mid-tempo song. And unlike most Hello! Project songs, this song was not completely made by Tsunku. For this song, Miura Tokuko wrote the lyrics while Tsunku was the composer.

If you think the Hello! Project is all childish and hyper, please try out Biyuuden, you’ll surely like what you hear.

I must say I’m quite impressed with this group especially in their style. They look more mature and their music is quite interesting. Their voices are quite good too. Thanks for introducing me to such an interesting group!

Yeah, I really like their sound. They don’t really lose the Hello! Project touch, but they don’t sound childly hyper. Like you stated in your article, I like what I hear! Thanks for introduction and good job!

I’ve been a huge fan of Rika Ishikawa ever since she’s been in Morning Musume. Even though her departure was a bit hasty, but she left MoMusu to explore her interest in trance music, hence the catchy tempo of biyuden songs. Anyway, I believe this group is the “mature” image of Hello!Project so it’s great that they’re improving a lot in termsssss of song selections and performances. p/s : I got to catch up with them when they toured Singapore last November. haha, but couldn’t get pics or video, forgot camera…kumendasai

yes they are VERY GOOD! even Rika became a better singer and now she’s able to be a mature beauty; a true artist rather than the cute, pretty but talentless girl (except for her dance skills) in morning musume (that position is filled in by sayumi now…)!

i don’t think she left morning musume hasty….i think tsunku just chose for her to graduate at that time so she can focus more on Biyuden….as for her interest in trance muisc i don’t know if she herself had a great interest in it but i know that the songs (even though they’re not always written by tsunku) choices are mostly influenced by tsunku. It’s really good that tsunku isn’t doing all the work anymore…in fact the new shuffle groups’ songs aren’t all done by tsunku! Miura Tokuko is a really good songwriter and a woman (lol, right?) that can probably write better love lyrics for female groups like this group and other H!P groups like Sexy Otonaja(sp?) then tsunku’s (even though he was pretty good at writing lyrics like that too).

I luv biyuden! it’s a group that my sisters and adults would like hearing because it’s more of the mature group and not so childish like the other groups in H!P.

I started listening to their first CD and gotta say that I like a lot of their songs. While they’re not as “mature” sounding as Tanpopo when they first came out, they’re still a refreshing change from Momusu. Rika’s come a long way and now seems to really have spread her wings here. Only thing I don’t really go for is their dancing. While very energetic and different, a lot of their moves look like “dry heaves” to me. Can’t win um all; still really like them.

I love all of Biyuuden’s songs. Their songs really cheer me up because of it’s upbeat pop rythm. Also I love Ishikawa Rika the most. She looks so pretty and her singing is really good I find.

i’ve noticed that most japanese songs i’ve heard, these one’s included… have english in them. Now ive asked my japanese friends about this, and they’ve said that to make things cool in japanese, in music-comics-tv, they use english

    is this tru?

I really love this group, “Hit Parade” is my favorite. And yeah, a little English is just considered cool in general. Most Japanese people have several years of English in High School, and are actually more adept at English than people think.

I know that this may be a bit off topic, but since i am trying to learn japanese, or at least go to Japan, if i were to go, and for the most part speak english, would i be understood by the majority of the population (or at least the younger population)?

    Hi NPC~!

Yes - you would be understood if you spoke loudly-ish and clear, but the best bet is to learn more Japanese… :)
