Artist: Koda Kumi Product Code: RZCD-45311 Release Date: 2006.12.02 Genre: Pop/R&B Label: Rhythm Zone Format: CD only, limited to 50,000 copies |
WIND is Koda Kumi’s 29th single, and the 11th in her 12 single collection. In order to generate sales, avex made the decision to create Kuu’s 12 single collection (which contained 13 singles). The catch was Kumi would release a single every week, most of which were limited to 50,000 copies. WIND’s cover was a bit odd, it featured Kuu as a man. The cover also draws from fashion in Italy. The song is the theme song of Fuji TV’s Torino 2006 Relay program.
WIND
I really like this track. The whole song feels very optimistic and uplifting, the lyrics and the instrumentals create a happy quirky theme. Kumi’s vocals are very polished and never sound strained. Even the instrumentals, though simplistic, sound expertly arranged. I really enjoyed the strings and electric guitar in the song.
The lyrics retain an optimistic feel. Some of the lyrics
“I’ll run, facing the wind,
no matter how painful things are…”
seem to relate to how her career was running before her hit single “real Emotion/1000 no Kotoba“.
The PV for the song was extremely cute and fun loving. It featured Koda Kumi making fun inventions that usually backfire. Her dog was featured in the video too. Eventually one invention works and she unleashes a giant whale.

Conclusion:
While this single isn’t a maxi it displays a great example of Koda’s talent.
It did fairly well on the charts, considering is was limited to 50,000 copies. Without to much sex appeal, which throws many people away, it’s a great single for any J-Pop lover.

i lreally loved this song wen it first came out…i like how cute n fun she makes the video…i love her other songs also like, futari de,and yume no uta!basically the same..and wont be long, ill be there,i love koi no tsubomi!another cute song…thank you for posting this video.this is one of the last sites left with her music vids…its all being copywritin n deleted…well good luck n thanks again
The later singles (in this 12 singles project) never really appealed to me, with the exception of ‘Someday’. This song is nice, but it’s a fairly typical j-pop tune. Though I must agree with you, the PV is very cute and fun!
An excellent review and info for this single. I look forward to reading your other articles! =D
Great voice, beautiful singer. Looking forward to hearing and seeing more of you Koda.
I’m not too much of a fan of when she tries to be all cute and stuff like that, I guess because I already have her burned in my mind as someone who does far more mature stuff. Basically, while her sexy image may not be that attractive to everyone, I think it suits her more than this does.
It’s an interesting cover though cos it hardly seems to relate to the song or the PV.
