mink is someone who rather requires a bit of an explanation. Her name is short for “made in Korea,” and she debuted in Japan by sending in her demos to avex Japan, because that was the industry she wanted to work in. Since then she has consistently worked her way up, released several singles, and two albums. She has a third album out, so here I’ll provide a brief review of her second album to introduce her first before I get to the new album.

It’s been about a year and a half since Kanon’s [Primary Flowers], the first full Sony album which failed to chart. Since this fundamental display in 2005, Kanon completed work on a mini-album and three singles, all of which contains elements that eventually made their way into her most recent album to date [Sanctuary]. The second full album was released at the end of 2006 in December when preparations were in motion for her big scene at MIDEM 2007. Did this second album attempt make up for the dismal performance shown to us through [Primary Flowers]? Well, let’s just say it depends on how you look at it.

After Olivia Lufkin’s hiatus, many fans were eagerly awaiting a release which was credited to OLIVIA only. The NANA releases were satisfactory enough, but everyone knew that Olivia’s style moved towards a different and more unique direction. Also Olivia’s fans wanted music which reflected Olivia’s personality rather than Reira’s. In January 2007 Olivia finally released her highly anticipated 5th mini album titled “The Cloudy Dreamer“.
