It’s been two months since Ai Takahashi graduated from Morning Musume and Hello! Project. Her last work as Morning Musume, 12, Smart, was released shortly after her graduation and was well received by fans. She has also started on various jobs such as a co-host for a bi-weekly online show and lots of photo shots. The 10th generations has also started making appearances with the other Morning Musume members on TV and various promotion events. Yet, the thought that Ai is no longer a part of Morning Musume has only recently started to sink in for me.
On September 30th, not only did I have the privilege of attending Ai-chan’s graduation concert but I was able to go with a friend. So not only was this my first time attending a graduation concert, but it was also the first time I attended a Hello! Project concert with someone that I knew. Add in the fact that the concert was at the Budokan, I was really bouncing with excitement all through September. After I got the concert goods I turned to my friend and said, “You realize we’re getting excited about the fact that we might be bawling our eyes out by the end of the night?” But it really didn’t matter did it, because there was never going to be another graduation concert like this.

I can’t even begin to express how excited I was for this concert. I mean, it’s the first time to witness the new members in action! But with all that is happening in Northern Japan and array of events being cancelled or postpone, I was just relieved that this concert was carried out as plan. Before the concert started, 3 donation boxes for the relief fund was setup and behind the boxes stood Mizuki, Sayumi and Riho. Most people went up to Sayumi’s donation box, some went to Mizuki’s donation box while barely anyone went to Riho’s donation box. This makes me wonder if Riho really is as popular as everyone says.
The concert took place in Otsu, Shiga prefecture which is Aika’s hometown. I didn’t realize this till someone requested everyone to chant “Aika” while we waited for the encore. Suddenly it all made sense why there was many Aika signs and purple glow sticks around. Sayumi reported on her blog that Aika was so moved to be home that she was in tears. When Aika first made her debut on Hello! Morning, she was out spoken and jumped in front of the camera at any chance she could get. But today during the encore, Aika was shy and quiet. As everyone was walking off the stage after the encore, Ai had to push Aika back to the centre of the stage as if telling her to enjoy the moment of having a concert in her hometown. It’s kind of refreshing to see this humble and shy side of Aika.

There were so many reasons why I was looking forward to attending this concert: Yuu’s opening act opening act, meeting the new Morning Musume members, Ai Takahashi’s announcement, the shuffle units and several more. I went to the concert with set list A1 for the shuffle group performance, and was super excited with some of the song choices. Before getting into the actual concert though, let’s start off with the special opening act: Yuu Kikkawa.

When the news of the triple graduation in Morning Musume was announced I went and bought the ticket right away. Never would I have thought my first concert in Japan was to see Morning Musume. Not to mention this would possibly be the last time to see Eri Kamei, JunJun and LinLin.
I attended the evening concert in Hiroshima because it was the closest to where I live. I would have loved to attend one in Osaka but to my surprise there was none set for this tour! I arrived at the concert hall an hour before the show. I should have got there earlier as some of the goods were already sold out. They had goods table set up outside and inside the venue. So next time I’ll know better and head to the venue early for limited edition goods like the daily concert photos.
