| I've always thought of music as a kind of universal language. It doesn't matter if you don't understand the lyrics, the melody is always able to let you understand what the song is about and feel the emotions. |

How do i define music? sure you did had to ask this difficult question?
Just kidding
Well imo we cant define music in it self it's so huge and
complex thing, something that connects peoples and cultures around the world
everyday, So probably there's no right definition for it
there's not a single person on this earth that could answer what is the
true definition for music since there are countless of them, but i
describe and define music as an artistic experience with an great messenger: theres so many
dimension with music so many layers with a specific story to tell that the above is my definition of music |

I would define music as being a way of expressing emotion through sound.
Music = Emotion |

My definition would be: Sound of concentrated emotions, thoughts and mood understandable by people all over the world. (not counting the lyrics. ) |

Oh..
It's a difficult question...
I think... from the artists perspective, it's a mixture of how they feel, experiences they've had and messages they want to convey.
From us, the listeners perspective, i think it's like a story...
Like being told a story, you know?
Hmm... but there's also a lot more to it than that.
A way to convey feelings that you just can't explain with normal words.
Maybe? |

It is a difficult question
but I like the way everyone has explained it in their own unique way.
I would say:
Music is just noise. Noise which sounds good. Noise crafted in such a way, that it can stir your soul.
When I first started listening to JPop, I didn't know any Japanese.
For me, the singers' voices were like a sweet sounding melody, floating on top of the music.
It was surreal, and a strangely beautiful experience
It still is... sometimes |

| Music is a universal language. The words in a song not everybody may understand, but the mood, the rhythm, the feeling, anybody could grasp. |

^ Hmmm. But, does that mean that if we wanted to listen to a tree falling or somebody jumping in a puddle, would that make it music?
I'm just curious.
Cause some people would say that running water could be called music, while others would disagree. You think natural noises can be music?
Eeee... maybe i'm thinking too much. |

| I think music is whatever you wanna call music. It's basically art, open to anyone's interpretation and anyone can coin anything they want as music. The opinion just may not necessarily match everyone else's opinion but we're free to define whatever we want as music, because it's not science or mathematics. |

Yeah I mean I was thinking along similar lines, like if you were to go out and listen to the birds singing in the morning or the waves on a beach I don't see why it couldn't be called music, I mean technically they contain rhythm and melodies haha.
In underground music scenes there are a lot of artist who create music which sounds like noise, so people say things like how can it be considered music when it's just noise? and I'd say it's music because people choose to listen to it. |
