| I've never heard any songs from FMA before, and I wonder if any of them are good? |

Hmm, I guess since the FMA anime starts on April 5th it makes sense that it's already recorded.
There's a small preview out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9B_vnG-D6lE
I hear there's will be a full version aired on radio station(s) in Japan on April 6th and on April 22nd 3 different versions of ring tones will be available. I'll keep an eye out in the anime communities if anything else comes out.,
preorders for the single are up on CDJ HMV and YA
The preview is so short, hard to tell what the finished song will be like. I don't mind it so far but I was hoping for something more faster and more rock-ish like Ready, Steady, Go.
Edit -> Here's two CMs on the new Full Metal Alchemist series that I've tracked down so far. Too bad no more preview of the song. Though I throw it out there for those that haven't seen the anime and want to see what the art is like.

Well YUI hasn't gone totally Nickleback yet ...
I want to hear a full version of this song before I pass judgment. A TV size will be available once the anime airs on the 5th. Since this is already so hyped in the anime community, I'm sure an OP of the anime will be available on the net not long after that anime airs. |

^ true, but though I loved I LOVED YESTERDAY, it reminded me way too much of CAN'T BUY MY LOVE. To be honest, I pay attention to her most whenever she releases singles that break the YUI-mold like Rolling star or LOVE&TRUTH.
MY SHORT STORIES was great because with them being B-sides, they didn't sound like they fit on a studio album; every song was different. That's what I want her to do, experiment more with her songs and go beyond the boundaries she seems to impose on herself. |

^ I can kind of see where you're coming from. That why a lot of fans whom have been with her from the start (well I didn't know of her till Life on BLEACH ...) loved her first album. But when her second and third album came around, some fans from the beginning didn't feel like sticking around anymore. They have every right to feel the way they do.
I think that the music industry is so ... complex. I personally think artist whom are just starting out will always struggle with the debate about sticking to the same formula to get a hit song (the thinking behind this, is if it was hit the first time, why wouldn't it be a hit a second or third or forth (and so on) time. But then you have the people whom are also experimenting. Some fans may jump all over those artist whom experiment a lot and exclaim, why is he/she singing something that doesn't suit them!? And that in turn may harm their sales.
Unfortunately, there's no right or wrong path. Well most would prefer the experiment path, but some fans will actually leave their fav artist if they don't like that artist's new sound (they may come back later if a future release perks their interest again).
I was personally hopping this hiatus for YUI would give her some new creative insight and that her fans may accept her for experimenting. But it's too early to tell right now. This is only a preview and there may still be a B-side to the single (well most likely ...).
My question is, is YUI holding herself back? or is her record company/management holding her back? She's still a relatively young artist/musician, so maybe she feels she needs to please her record producers?? I could be very wrong.
I know she has creative rights in terms of writing lyrics and the composition to her songs, but beyond that, how much creative rights does her record company give her? |

Who knows, maybe because of her age, they feel that YUI is still a stupid little girl who doesn't understand the big world where older, more experienced people do things. I could be wrong ( I HOPE I'm wrong, poor her ) but that's where it seems to be at.
YUI tends to do things uniformly; she never smiles on covers or posters, videos very rarely, or even shows emotion for that matter. seems like a tribute to that old adage that kids are seen and not heard. who knows, maybe when YUI gets older with new releases and more experience she'll be doing things differently.
about YUI holding herself back, I will have to agree completely. she's barely changed since her debut. like I said previously, only songs like Rolling star, LOVE&TRUTH and the like have stepped out of YUI's comfort zone. I'd never abandon her as a fan, but I'll definitely appreciate her less if she rehashes CAN'T BUY MY LOVE again. have you noticed her lyrics are beginning to sound the same, too? Trains, guitars and leaving, love, loss and shy affections...I feel that she's just going on about the same stuff a lot. |

^ I have to agree, she does seem to write about the same things alot. It make me wonder how much traveling YUI has down since her music career started. Probably more around Japan but how much personal time does she get to live a life. I think it may be hard for her to write about other topics if she's always been busy with her music career and everything else that comes along with it (i.e. radio shows, promotional events ect.). Maybe she didn't get a lot of personal time to herself since (2004-2005) ... again I could be wrong. But if that's the case, then maybe that's why she stuck on the same topics.
In CAN'T BUY MY LOVE there were a few songs that talked about being older and leaving her teens ... but that's about it.
I feel that if she takes a hiatus again, I would love it if she traveled outside of Japan and live a regular life for a while maybe ... though I did recall someone saying she said in her blog during her hiatus, that she was able to do normal life stuff that she couldn't while she was busy with her music. |

| I just heard it about an hour ago or so. It's pretty good. I was hoping for something more fast paced so that might be why I'm not lovin' the song yet. |
