I miss reading her diary entries
So, I have decided to have a go at translating some of her entries myself.
My Japanese is extremely rusty (to say the least) and I've used mainly JWPCE and a bit of Google to translate, but it is very likely there might be some errors
Celsius had done an absolutely wonderful job, I can only wish to be as such a good poetical translator.
I can't promise I will translate all her past and future entries, but I will try do what I can.
Her most recent entry:
楽して手に入らない宝物
DATE:2009/02/17(Tue) 19:05 No.107
Fun obtaining treasure
DATE:2009/02/17(Tue) 19:05 No.107
A brilliant moment requires devoting effort and patience.
I guess its painful in many ways.
Besides, when its over, is defeat not uncertain?
Such is the mirror which reflects me.
"Pride" and "complex" may get in the way.
Take them head-on, endure those times,
collect the treasure.
The opponent one fights is themselves,
I guess its painful in many ways.
Besides defeat, is there a way to escape it?
With such a past, is me.
Something you love, valuable, with the power
to start a chain-reaction, seems to be the way. |

This is the translation of her previous Diary entry 106, first of 2009.
I seem to be getting a little better already
Apparantly she was in L.A.?
2009年、HAPPY COMECOME
DATE:2009/01/21(Wed) 12:51 No.106
The Year 2009, HAPPY COMECOME
DATE:2009/01/21(Wed) 12:51 No.106
The year of the Ox.
I am impressed by the delicious roast which I ate at once!
It's cold these days, gee its winter, I want to hibernate (*laughs*)
I thought Amererica would be warm, LA too, but indoors...
I got to see various scenery, but there was nothing inspiring (to do?).
Only breathing, singing my body's nonsense song, soundlessly.
I want to see if I can live (here?), just once.
This year's fortune is said to be unfavourable.
You will be impatient (*laughs*)
despite being irrated, look ahead, prepare to catch happiness ☆
Thankyou again this year ♪ |

thak you so much for translation today a new diary entry
振り返っては、振り返り、どこが前だったか忘れる道のり。
DATE:2009/03/16(Mon) 11:48 No.108
Can you translate please, ? sure you can take all the time you need to translate ! |

Thankyou for pointing it out May-chan91
This one was a little difficult, because she talks about different things (I think).
And as you know, my Japanese isn't very good so it might sound... strange
The line: "Even after 26 years, I haven't found it." is a little confusing, because it implies something from earlier, but I must have translated something wrong so this line ends up not making sense on its own.
In the last paragraph, I was confused with the phrase: 命がけ which I translated as "life-threatening risk".
She may just be talking about the fact that those things are "alive", and how both those small animals and us humans have our own "pace of life".
振り返っては、振り返り、どこが前だったか忘れる道のり。

When I look back, I forget the distance (I am now) from where I looked back
DATE:2009/03/16(Mon) 11:48 No.108
I met the arrival of Winter in December, delighted
I wore the "coat" I just bought
The town neon, dazzling wildly
This unique thrill as the year ends
Even when it rains like snow, it feels "romantic"
Waiting for winter to end, March is here already
Quickly? No. Summer can't arrive quickly until the fall of spring
Not usually.
Like a dog, waiting outside a "supermarket" for its master.
With randomness and clumsiness, this season passes us by.
Even after 26 years, I haven't found it.
Take a look at the ground.
Every day, small creatures risk their lives.
Their steps are small, too
Making it just across a pedestrian-crossing is also the "climax" of a great risk
Being much larger and able to move at least greater distances, we also risk our lives.
With our own life-threatening steps
Let's try stretch a little
So we can grow taller. |

But what she said is beautiful i love how she see the life .
Don't worry about your japanese, mine is very very poor i can't do translations. You are very good ! |

Thanks May-chan!
I wont get better if I don't practice, right?
Here is another one of her older diary entries
A short entry, very typical of Ai-Chin, from the last day of last year.
There is always something new to learn about her when you read these entries
お世話になりました2008年☆
DATE:2008/12/31(Wed) 18:45 No.105
寒さに縮まるこの時期です。
今年は頑張ったご褒美のように、幸せだと感じられたことが多かった。
叶わない想いもあったけれど、精一杯できた。
来年からは
新しく 歩いて行こう。
2009年、答えのでる年。
たくさん学び、たくさん遊ぶ。
楽しみだなぁ・・・
Thank you 2008☆
DATE:2008/12/31(Wed) 18:45 No.105
It is the season when (the days) shrink into the cold.
As I worked hard to achieve something, I often felt that I have been happy this year.
Although my wishes were not granted, by working hard some did come true.
From next year
walk with new steps.
2009, the year of answers.
Much to learn, much to play.
I'm looking forward to it.... |

Um, can I ask if some members think maybe I should not post my translations?
I would be happy to not post them publicly like this if anyone objects, because I know they are not the best (true) translations of her wonderful diary entries, so I dont want to give out the wrong kind of impressions about her literary talents.
Any flaws in these translations are because my Japanese is not very good. Ai-Chin wrote them with all her heart in her own language, and I can only try to convey the same message, most of the time not even getting close to Celsius' level of ability.
With that formal sort of warning out of the way, this is her diary entry from before the last one I posted: 103.
Yes, there was NO 104!!
When you read through this, we can guess that she probably only said a few words about her Album being available in 104 (I think it must have been Love Letter), and later decided it was not worth archiving.
Maybe
静寂、冬と私。
DATE:2008/12/15(Mon) 11:38 No.103
Quietness, winter and me.
DATE:2008/12/15(Mon) 11:38 No.103
Recently I have been awfully calm, and I hear sounds very clearly.
The other day, I was walking by night, slowly.
And I was with a friend, discussing something, not really of imporantance.
It was a pleasant walk.
As I listened to the footsteps following me,
I could hear the difference between left and right.
The right foot had a higher "pitch".
Ah
By tomorrow my "album" will be sent off to be printed in droves,
so I have to be prepared for it, eek (laughs)
What would be the best way to notify you.
I wonder how the news would circulate.
Because you might want to know, I would be happy to oblige. |

I think you could post your translations because with time you will be better and lot of people here can't do the same job as you ! ( i'm one f this )
And i'm sure you do a good job ! You are not japanese and if you make some faults i'ts not a crime !
With your translation i can feel more her power and her talents than if the entries stay in japanese !
Thank you for the new translation i like when she talk about her with a friend =) |

Um, I know I am double-posting here but this is a new translation which has nothing related to my previous post.
I hope nobody minds
Entry 102, talking about the weather generally. In her own way
晴天のせつなさ。
DATE:2008/12/04(Thu) 04:38 No.102
好きな夏の晴れ模様とは打って変わって、
冬の晴れ模様は、言葉をなくす。
無音に惹かれる。
遠くの山が見えて、東京にいてもほっとする。
太陽がつくるグラデーションの夕暮れ。
あっぱれ。
無音と絶景と紅茶。
大事なことだけが浮かび上がってくるような脳内。
来年は旅行にたくさん行きたい。
もうすぐ発売されるアルバムを見届けたら。
A moment of fine weather.
DATE:2008/12/04(Thu) 04:38 No.102
Lovely summer's clear-weather patterns strike me as peculiar,
winter's clear-weather patterns leave me lost for words.
I am charmed into silence.
I can see distant mountains, and am relieved I can see them even from Tokyo.
The evening sun creates a gradient in sky.
Pretty.
Tea, silence, and a superb view.
So that only important matters float in my mind.
I want to travel a lot next year.
I will make sure the album gets released soon. |
