雨の中のメロディ- - A Melody in the Rain -
Romaji:
Ame naka no merodii
Ame naka no merodii
shinpai shite hoshikute maigo ni nattan janai
kaeru basho ga nakatta no
mayonaka to tabako
mizutamari no dansu
yokome ni utsuru wasuremono no sukoppu
maru de, atashi, sute neko mitai...
sorosoro samuku natte kita
yubisaki kajiri kokyuu ni awaseta jika danbou
Ame naka no merodii
Ame naka no merodii
kantan ni namida wa misenai
hontou no namida wa misenai
doushitatte ikinuite misenakya
Ame naka no merodii
Ame naka no merodii
Translation:
a melody in the rain
a melody in the rain
It wasn't that I got lost so that you would worry
I just didnt have a place to return to
midnight and tabacco
the dance of water puddles
a forgotten shovel reflected in a sidewards glance
it's like I'm a stray; abandoned...
gradually it's getting cold
biting my fingertips, my breathe in sync with the homemade heater
a melody in the rain
a melody in the rain
I won't show tears easily
I won't show real tears
I must live through this no matter what
a melody in the rain
a melody in the rain

i love this song once too...
i usually listen to music before i go to sleep and i'll eventually take my headphones off without turning off the player...
one night i woke up in the middle of the night and began to hum this song from the beginning.....
halfway through the song i decided to pick up my headphones
it was really strange because the song playing was at the exact part that i was humming too so it was as if i were singing in sync with it without hearing it
that day on i've had a new love for the song
as always, i think her lyrics paint a simple but wonderful picture
she always finds some way to spark her lyrics up haha i love that! |

Ame Naka No Melody~ A melody in the rain
A melody in the rain..
A melody in the rain...
I couldn't find my way home not to hurt your heart..
I just did not have a place to return to..
The smell of tobacco in the midnight..
The dance of water puddles..
In a sideward glance, a forgotten shovel left behind..
Its like I am a stray cat...
Gradually it becomes colder..
Biting my fingertips, my breath in sync, making me feel warmer..
A melody in the rain...
A melody in the rain...
I won't easily show my tears to anyone..
I won't show real tears..
I must be strong and live through this..
A melody in the rain..
A melody in the rain...
My translation (: Enjoy |

can someone explain the title to me?
i've been studying japanese for not too long, so i don't know everything. (like rules and such.)
"ame no naka no melody" means "a melody in the rain". but from what i know the particle "no" shows possesion. (kinda like 's.)
so shouldn't it be "in the rain's melody."
i've always been confused with this title from the first day i heard it.
i hope i made sense. xD
so can someone explain it to me? |

Your understanding is correct but is taken literally. 'no' does suggest ownership but it is also used in a way to relate the two topics together. I dunno, I'm not good at explaining grammar points at all because my understanding is more intuitive (but also not perfect) but the point is that just because 'no' is used, doesn't mean that X is literally owned by Y (or in this case, the melody is not necessarily owned by the rain). To say "In the Melody's Rain" makes very little sense in English right? Instead, we just take what is meant and that gets translated into "A Melody in the Rain". In that way, the implication of the phrase is the same both in Japanese and English AND they both make sense in their respective languages
Hope that makes sense because I'm not good at teaching language and grammar lol |
