Hi, anyone here watched Swing Girls? It's quite a cute Japanese story involving students of a particular school. No romance though.
Summary:
This is a story of some high school girls who went of to deliver lunch for their school's band during their holidays, while they were supposed to have a really boring math lesson instead. These girls are kind of delinquent and they managed to cause food poisoning to the band members of their school. Afterwards, they are sent to the hospital to recuperate, but nobody can help to replace them to participate in a national Jazz competition. The girls decide to get out of their boring Math remedial and get into Jazz instead. A series of mishaps persue and then these girls, who hated Jazz, and did not even know how to blow a trumpet, begin to appreciate the music of Jazz.
I really loved this story very much, with its ups and downs and all the funny bits in between. Kawaii ne! |

This is one of the funniest and interesting movies I have ever seen. I love the part with the bottles and the one in the forest.
At the begining I didn't have much expectations fot it, becouse I saw it was a musical, but at the end I was glad that i watched it
Must see |

| I love swing girls. I really wish they would make a J-drama about this movie, its made by the same person who made water boys and water boys has already had two drama seasons, *sigh* a swing girls drama would be so awsome ^^ |

"Swing Girls" rocks! I bought this DVD from a pirated store and it has optional subtitle for both Cantonese and English!
Anyway, this movie is really interesting and fun, the part where they are chased by the boar is just PRICELESS. Funny as hell and at the same time very interesting and meaningful. I was in the school band last time and it really bring back some memories. If you watch the off-shot clips you can see Ueno Juri tried so hard to practice her saxophone that she was in tears during the practice, probably due to the tight schedule and pressure. I'm a trumpet player myself and I know how hard it is to play Jazz music, especially those crazy slurs and high notes. It is NOT easy to hit those high notes at all (refer to the scene where the trumpet girl is practicing under the bridge). It's also funny how the trumpet player put a tiny rat thingy on her trumpet before the performance, I guess it's there just for the dramatic effect.
Overall, this movie is very fun and everyone should watch this if you have the chance, you won't regret it! And after watching this movie, you will know why they pick Ueno Juri as Nodame when they plan to shoot "Nodama Cantabile". She already has the musical training while shooting "Swing Girls", and she has this fun factor and funny expression that makes her very suitable for a comedy role. And if you watch another dorama called "Engine" starring Kimutaku, you'll see yet another facet of Ueno's character. She's a pretty good actress if you ask me! |

Wow, that would be a great drama, Juri may be too old now. For anyone who hasn't seen this movie yet, stop what ever you're doing, rush out and get it now! Er, well maybe not at a U.S. store, but can be bought fairly cheap on-line, you won't ever see many better movies. Wasn't sure what movie to watch tonight, now I do! |

Yup, perfect word, from what I've heard that also describes Juri's sax playing, they also played a few live shows, everyone who was in the final scene can actually play. |
