Here is my story...
On a business trip to SanFrancisco, my Japanese friend took my to a Shochu bar in Japan town. At the time, I was really into Utada Hikaru.
I brought a Utada concert DVD and they played it at the bar the first night. My friend was busy the next night, but I went back on my own. When I got there they had a DVD of a Japanese singer I had never seen nor heard of. It seemed to be the final song on the concert and my first impression was that this person was not such a good singer. She was singing the finale of the concert. It was a song called "Always Together."
However, me being me...I thought to myself... "that person is beautiful!" I asked Kako-mama to write down her name so that I might research her later... Getting back home, I was in no hurry to listen to this singer (sorry Ai-chan, I was ばか). I liked the way she looked, though. I even added her as my laptop desktop picture.
It gets a bit complicated from here... Otsuka Ai was a face to me, but not a voice... yet. At some point many months later, feeling the need for change, I decided to purchase some CDs from Kinokuniya in Seattle.
I decided to try Love Jam. At first, I was not all that impressed. However, at some point, after listening to the whole thing, I came to realize that this is good! I don't remember what song turned me, but I came to appreciate her music. つつく |

Oh yes...
Something, after listening to her entire album made me want to hear more. I think it was at that time that I thought it would be a good to get the concert that I had seen in SanFran.
They had two concert DVDs on the shelf. Jam Punch and Love Cook. I had no idea which one was the one I had seen the ending to, so I decided to get the newest one. I knew at the time only the songs from Love Jam, but I saw that she had many more songs for me to listen to... (yes, I had never heard of Sakurambo at that point).
Okay, as one might imagine, I soon purchased all the other work I could get my hands on... First was Love Piece soon to be followed by Love Cook. But did I really need Love Punch?
I relented to by Love Punch after going back to get the Jam Punch concert DVD. I was thinking that, as a true AI-chan fan, I needed to have the CD with her signature song "Sakuranbo!" It was not long till I realized that Love Punch, like each of her other CDs that I had heard was a gem!
Since that time I have pounced upon everything Ai-chan has put out (CD, DVD or pod cast)
She is now hands down my favorite entertainer on the globe! |

Nice story!
Heres my story!
One day I was at the park with my friends and I was bored and I could see
one of my friends had an MP3 player but wasnt listening to music.
I went up to to him and asked him If I could borrow his Mp3 player (I was
a total K-Pop fan at the time). I then started browsing through his music and some how I came across a song that was so stunningly beautiful that it
suprised me (Planetarium-Ai Otsuka). I asked my friend who sang this song, but he said he didnt know who sang it I then asked him what the song was called and he said Planetarium. Later that day... I went on youtube and searched for the song for hours..and then I finally found it. It was the music video of Planetarium and I was shocked! Ai otsuka was so beautiful
I listened to that song about 5 more times and I searched for more of her songs. I went from Momo no hanabira to Kingyo Hanabi and I completely fell in love with Ai and her music.
These days Ai is absolutely my favorite singer and her
music is obviously the best in the world! |

Well now it's time for my history, but it's not so interesting I started to like Japanese music, when I had begin listening to japanese openings and endings of "Dragon Ball" (In my country there were French ones). I throught "I like this language" and found more songs, which were in this anime. About month has passed, until I searched other genres of Japanese music, but I heard stereotype that the Jpop is always so "kawaii" and "sweet" with stupid little girls skipping all around the scene and making cute faces. One day I was bored, thought "It might be funny" and wrote "Jpop" on youtube. All I wanted to, was to listen some funny, maybe even stupid "kawaii" music, and have laugh (gomen ). Yeah I know, that I was wrong, but I was guided by other people opinions about Japanese music. So when I wrote "Jpop" in youtube, I found the video named "Jpop top 10" or something like this. I watched it and got suprised. I liked this music! Especially the song, that was on 4th position. As I later learned, that was Planetarium. I saved the video to favourites and watched it all the time, always waiting for these few seconds of this beautiful song. Then someone post a comment, with the names of songs. I found out that the song is Planetarium Otsuka Ai's. But the comment was telling, that there is also other song of Ai - Sakuranbo on 7th, from which I had always laughed. I thought "it can't be her! She look different, and the style is also different. Planetarium was smooth ballad, but this is just too sweet, I don't like it". But when I listened it few times i fell in love . After that, I found Happy days, Kingyo Hanabi, and Amaenbo. I liked all of her songs I knew, and I wanted to knew more. Today I know almost all of her songs. I think, that that was good thing to happen to me, that I was so bored that day |

Wow~ you all have incredible story's on how you become Ai-chin fans~ mine isn't as interesting but why not share it...?!
well i used to be an anime freak, loving all kinds of cute adorable things which were japanese (i kinda still do xD), later on, i got fed up of watching anime and wanted to watch other things... at that time my friend introduced me to a live action called Nodame Cantabile, i loved it. it inspired me to watch more japanese dramas&movies... my friend also told me that her second cousin (her cousin's cousin) was Aoi Miyasaki (famous actress), i was quite shocked although i didn't know who Aoi Miyazaki was at that time. when i finished Nodame Cantabile, i done my usual research on some actors&actresses. i stumbled on Tamaki Hiroshi. i had a look at some movies he acted in, 'Tada Kimi wo Aishiteru/Heavenly Forest'... 'hmm sounds interesting'. then i saw that Aoi Miyasaki also acted in that film that was my motivation to watch it. i loved it, it was my first japanese movie that made me cry =3= but the best thing was when i heard that wonderful song which played in the credits, it really made the movie perfect, 'Ai Otsuka - Renai Shashin' hmm~ i really liked that song, it was a really good first impression of Ai Otsuka for me. i researched some more and really got into all her songs, what really made me love her songs was that she was a proper Singersong-writer, different to those Cantopop (Cantonese Pop) songs i listened to and those happy jumpy anime music. And Ai-chin was really pretty~ then i watched Tokyo Friends (I knew Eita from Nodame Cantabile^^), i think that drama&movie really made me an Ai Otsuka fan ^0^ |

My Story isn't that long. I listened to her "LOVE PUNCH"-Album 10 days after the release or so. I thought the album was nice, but nothing special, but I followed her releases but she wasn't my favorite singer. After a while she released "CHU-LIP" which made me to a complete Ai-chan demoniac . Thenceforward she was my favorite singer . Simple and short ! |

So many found Ai-chin via Planetarium ... well, funny enough the first I heard Ai-chin was after watching Hana Yori Dango and listening to Planetarium. It wasn't long after that I found out who the artist was and decided to buy the Ai am Best Cd/Dvd. Amazingly after listening to the CD I found I loved every song (except BABASHI, but more on that later). The PVs especially were absolutely stunning, I copied them to my PSP and started watching them all the time. Eventually I started buying her other albums, and finally decided to get her live concerts, the first being the Ai am Best Tour. I was quite enjoying myself watching that, but when the segment starting with BABASHI started, I was absolutely blown way, it was just so cool and amusing at the same time. The follow up performances from Ai were even better though Katamoi dial, frienger, pon-pon, sakuranbo and happy days. From that moment on I've been totally addicted. |

Here Animax LA had Frienger in her PV section, with a friend we were laughing at the video with all the rangers stuff, latter I downloaded Frienger followed by some random songs, "Daisuki da yo." touched my heart and it was love at first look
Ai had appeared in the right moment, when my head needed a little of musical renovation. |

Hi. This is my first post here, so please be kind.
I started listening to Ai's music a few years ago. I think the first PV of hers that I really remembered was CHU-LIP, which is pretty hard to forget anyway haha... So, that's when I started paying attention, but I didn't become a fan yet.
When Ai released "Pocket", I loved that song, and also the PV. To me, that was a work of art, and I had to order the single. It's still one of my favorite "winter" songs today. But that didn't make me a fan yet.
This summer, I finally decided to order the Rocket Sneaker single. I've always liked the PV for that song... and plus, it's a really great song. Well... while I was waiting for Rocket Sneaker to arrive, I thought I'd look around for the PV for Kurage, Nagareboshi to see if I wanted to order that, too. I couldn't find the original PV anywhere, but a live version from the Love Is Born 5th Anniversary concert was up... and I couldn't believe how beautiful that performance was. That weekend, I ordered that concert.
When the DVD finally arrived, I watched it a few times, and began to really like the style and delivery for all of the songs, but the final song, "Ai", really stayed with me. I decided to listen to the original studio version, and that's when I finally became a real fan. I began wondering if I wasn't missing good songs by not listening to her albums, so I looked up songs from Love Piece... and when I heard Mirai Taxi the first time, that was it. I was completely hooked.
That's when I ordered Love Piece and Love Letter.
And now I'm here. Thanks for reading my long story... |

okay, here's my story ^^
I remember I watched Naruto(I dunno which episode) with my sister, we just randomly pressed the channel, so we didn't even know that it was called Naruto then she said she was into Bleach anime and told me to watch it. I started to watch Bleach (I got into yui there tho XDDD but that's not the main point), then i registered ton a forum about that anime. And one girl there had an avatar with Ai! I thought that this girl on icon was very pretty (yes, I liked Ai for her kawainess XDD), so I asked her who was the girl on her icon, she told me that it was japanese singer Otsuka ai, I went to the YouTube and searched for her music! the first videos were Friends-tokyo friends version, daisuki da yo video, and Tokyo Friends. I pressed on these three videos. I watched Friends PV and that made me want to watch Tokyo Friends XD then I started to watch Daisuki Da Yo video, which had subtitles in it, and it made me cry!!! I really liked the song and I thought that PV was sad and charming at the same time <3 <3 <3
So after that I decided to search for more of her songs, and I downloaded her album (Love Jam, cuz it had Daisuki Da Yo in it ). And I liked it I loved Kingyo Hanabi especally! <3 <3 <3
Then I decided to download the rest of the albums, and that's how I got into Ai-chan
My story is not so interesting |

it is 愛ちゃん that bring me into the field of j-pop music and i have a lot of fun through her songs and performances , i really appreciate 愛ちゃん

hmm, i as well only saw ai's face first. i found some random gallery with pictures or j-pop stars, i was looking for pictures of melody but that gallery had albums worth 4 or 5 pages. i picked some of my favourite artists, such as t.m.revolution and mihimaru gt and then had a look at the completely unknown artists. i ran into ai otsuka's album and considered her ridiculously pretty. however her look gave me the impression that she might do some utterly sweet and sticky pop music that my ears couldn't handle for longer than 5 minutes so i didn't listen to any of her songs at that time. back then i still liked a bit harder music, jrock mostly. some time ago i got some sort of odd pop injection and abandoned all of my d'espairs ray and other similar musics and switched onto pop. as i really didn't have any pop artists to listen, i started finding new ones and ai was one of the first one's to come up in my mind. i still thought her music might be way too sweet sugar for me but i gave her a go anyway. the first song i heard was sakuranbo. well, the beginning of the song caught me strongly at first but the more i listened to it i kinda started liking it less. then i listened to some more and i ran into songs like mousou chop and chu-lip, and particularly mousou chop got me really into her. i love the electronic waves in it. ever since ai has been a regularity on my play list. |
