Well ChocolateMesher, I'm not demur with your reaction about the PV. I also surprised with the PV (and the song) at first.
But seems like Aichin want to change her image. She want people know that she is not Aichin who people knows so far. Aichin has changed.
This had been mentioned on ai think (2009.9.12):
もう27歳。
この童顔でよく20前半に見られるけど。
That's all that I can say about it. |

^ i can say a bit more.
ChocolateMesher wrote: People can call me closed minded or whatever but one of the big reasons why I liked Ai so much is that she kept that innocent image, she always wore modest clothing, and made songs that people of all ages could enjoy. I feel that artists who try to appeal to people with their (or other people's) bodies are seeking attention, rather than focusing on the reason why they became an artist in the first place: to make appeal through their personality and music.
You may disagree with me, but this is how I feel about it. If anything, it should be easy to see why I'm shocked about it, you can't say any of Ai's other videos were like this. It was a sudden and drastic change.
she has mentioned a few times now she feels different to how she was earlier and wants to start a new phase of her life. i expect this will involve more of her expressing how she currently feels in her songs. the sexual desire/lust depicted in the aisu×time PV reflects one aspect of the human condition, just like happiness, sadness, love, friendship, loss, regret, etc. and for a 27 year old woman it is obviously a part of her life experiences.
so i dont think the subject matter itself is wrong. most of her fans will have matured with her for most of the last 6 years. (assuming they were teenagers to start with, they would be young adults now.) but even younger fans now, viewing the PV will understand that this is how adults sometimes act. the imagery in the PV is what we are constantly exposed to in the media.
although everyone has an opinion about the asthetics of the video and how "tastefully" it was done.
addressing some of the points you raised:
the innocent image that she has "kept" up to now is not about image management but how she actually is. i have always thought when i see her in any situation there is no pretence. she is a very genuine person. "what you see is what you get". so if her innocent image changes my conclusion is this is how she actually is now.
yes, she has always worn modest clothing, and continues to do so. that one photo in the 2010 calendar was mostly a "shock" because it was so untypical. but viewed objectively, it is still very modest.
you mention she has always made songs that people of all ages could enjoy. has it occurred to you that her early song may not have had much appeal to a more mature audience? but now she is more mature herself, you are questioning whether she is now relevant to a younger audience. what is happening here is an evolution of an artist (and a person).
i dont think this one video is evidence that Ai is attention seeking. (given 5 more like it in a row i might change my mind! ) |

5? Not that much pon pon. 3 more videos is enough to change my mind!

I'm not good at commenting something like this, so: That's all that I can say. |

Meh... Whats the problem about it ? Ai-chan grows up, she can't stay the innocent little girl who sings cute pop songs for ever. If she is happy about her change and thinks that the change is a good thing, I think the same ! |

I feel that artists who try to appeal to people with their (or other people's) bodies are seeking attention, rather than focusing on the reason why they became an artist in the first place: to make appeal through their personality and music. I agree with you in terms that I don't believe an artist should try to sell themselves based on sexual imagery alone, but I don't think that is what Ai is trying to achieve in this case. I see "aisu x time" more as a statement on where Aichin is in her life, She has obviously wanted to make a big impact with it, and I think what she is trying to say is, look at me, I'm not a little girl anymore. However, the impact of "aisu x time" should not be taken in isolation. Strangely enough, I think if you look at the impact of the "Ai" PV, you will find a similar sort of message in what Ai is trying to convey. And that is I've matured as a person and as a singer as well. Both PV's couldn't be more different, but I think they both carry a very similar message.
So I don't think we should expect that Ai is going to keep churning out music in the "Aisu x time" vein, but who knows? Ai's indicated she want's to change her style and this could be it ... just kidding, I'd personally be surprised if we saw another "Aisu x time" in the near future. |

the truth! there's so many of her songs that way.. if you think about it, even Neko ni Fuusen is about one's "liberal-ness".
for PVs, isnt "Kuroge Wagyuu Joushio Tanyaki 735 Yen" seductive enough? |

The photos of the show already exist, so the event had already held?
This friend (Guest Lovers) is Mari Hoshino (星野真里).
Apparently, Aichin playing piano is when she sang 「ポケット」. I guess this song is the new arrangement ver. |

They always pre-record the shows and then put up a pic on their website.
I think Music Station is the only live show out of all the music shows. |
