Hi all, I'm a newbie to this but I'll jump straight into it
I got into studio Ghibli's work since I was about 5 years old watching Laputa in Cantonese (which to this day is still one of my favorites). I recently bought a dvd set "Studio Ghibli presents the great collection" online with 18 of his movies where most of them are dubbed in Cantonese. I was a bit disappointed to find that the dubbing is completely different to the previous ones I've watched (Laputa/Princess Mononoke) where as the voice actors are not as passionate or as convincing (as though they are just reading it off the script instead of acting it out professionally, in other words, a bit wooden)
This have ruined my experience of my childhood memory . I was just wondering what's going on?
Why is there a re dub of a perfectly fine Cantonese version?
More importantly I just want to know where I can get a collection where the dubbing is as I remembered (a good dub with professional voice actors)
I know I might sound a bit picky but I just want to get something that got me into it in the first place.
Well, that's my rant over if nobody have experienced this then I guess it's just me going loopy hope to hear from whoever soon. |

Welcome to channel-Ai red950
That old Laputa dub must have been really good I have a friend who has said exactly the same thing (though she was comparing it to the new english (disney) dub I lent her). Anyway I got no idea where you can get the old dubs, sorry about that It's nice to see another Ghibli fan here though, I love some of those older movies like Totoro, Nausicaa, Kiki, and Laputa |

Hi Flin,
Thanks for taking the time to reply to this post. It's good to hear other people into their Ghibli's
I've heard that most good Cantonese dubs are done by TVB, now I'm a bit reluctant to buy another collection online as I'm afraid I might end up with the same dub.
Oh well, I guess I'll continue this hunt for quality dubs the next time I go to Hong Kong |
