I'm so jealous of you! Osaka's one of the places that I've always wanted to go to in Japan. But, to tell you the truth one of the only thing I really know about Osaka that I know is that people in Tokyo and the rest of eastern Japan think they are "bumpkins" for the way they talk. Osaka dialect seems stupid to them... ...so Osaka is the butt of jokes.
It's one of the biggest cities in Japan, and has a Korean Town! Cool~ I heard they have good fashion shops, too. Oh, you are sooooo lucky...
Oh, and take pictures to share with us when you come back please~! |

Wow, I really envy you to have the chance going to Osaka, afterall it's the hometown of our dearest Ai-chin!
I think I know a little about the bumpkin broken::dreams mentioned above, like some member was saying how the way Ai's speaking is very different from people from Tokyo (huge Osaka accent). I can't really tell myself since I don't have much experience with Japanese language, but I guess it's kinda true.
Anyway, I think Ai-chin has showed us how Osaka people can rock just like those living in Tokyo, if not better. And yeah, do remember to find out Ai's old house address, like where she used to live before she got famous, and take picture with her parents, maybe! haha, that will worth a million yen if you sell on eBay.
P.S. Guess what, September 9 is Ai-chin's birthday, who knows, she might be at Osaka by the time you visit, like celebrating with her parents or something |

kansai-ben is pretty different from standard dialect (kanto-ben). The standard is taught in school, but because the people talk differently from the standard, they kind of forget (?). I know that in kansai-ben, for instance they use "hen" for negative, not "nai", and the more casual (informal) speech is spoken most often, and the conjugation of "desu" is different. Well, anyway, I wanted my friend to teach me the kansai-ben, seeing as she is from the kansai region, but I figured that it was better to learn standard, since textbooks and practice stuff are all in standard.
I know that tetsu, hyde, and ken (from L'Arc~en~Ciel) are from Osaka, but when they went to Tokyo for their debut, the drummer sakura who was from Tokyo had to teach them standard dialect, although they sometimes slip up (since it's just for business not casual talk for them). In interviews, Ai most likely uses the standard. But perhaps on TV programs Ai most likely CHOOSES to speak in her dialect, not nessesarily speaks it because it's her native dialect. Maybe to seem more endearing. |

ii na. *jealous* ^^ Enjoy your holiday there.
I think all of region in Japan have their own dialect, but the most popular one is Kansai dialect. And they tend to make Kansai dialect as joke. |

I didn't get a chance to visit Osaka, when i was in the Kyoto/Tokyo area last May. But i can tell you that you might find Ai Otsuka stuff in Nakano, Tokyo area. Go to Nakano Broadway Mall near the Nakano station, there are some j-idol stores there, and you might find some posters and trading cards/photobooks on Ai there. Also, throughout Japan, you might look at the many bookstores there and see if there is Ai Otsuka photobooks and other merchandise on her, she is very popular in Japan. |
