My favourite film is End of Evangelion, but unless you've watched the series it will make no sense at all.... having said that it take a few watches to make sense even if you did watch the series Confused
I also thought the Lord of the Rings trilogy was amazing.

Other faves would include:
Battle Royal
Amelie
The Matrix
Spirited Away
My Neighbour Totoro
Akira
Star Wars IV V and VI (Star Wars was the first film I saw at the cinema, I was 5!)

Of course, what movie I want to watch at any given time is dictated by how I feel (i.e. stress = something cheezy/perhaps girlie--Clueless, sad = need excuse to cry--Takeshi Kitano's Dolls).

As for favorites, I love fairytale/fantasy, so The Princess Bride, Pirates of the Caribbean, and anything Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands! Crying Love ), Jim Henson (Labyrinth!), or Miyazaki (Totoro!! Love ).
I also love classics, like Harvey, Some Like It Hot, Rebel Without a Cause, Citizen Cane, original Zatoichi films, etc... (Or "80s Classics" like, The Breakfast Club and The Heathers...)

If forced to pick one, tho, it would have to be The City of Lost Children (French film by dir. Jean-Pierre Jeunet--same guy responsible for Amelie [also good, but much milder]). *Amazing* Shocked + Love
