I decided to make a topic about Avatar, since it's now the top grossing movie of all time, if you pretend inflation never happened ^^.
So how did you guys like it? I went to see it about a week after it was released and was extremely impressed with it. Afterward I was also very impressed with the way the creators generated the Na'vi characters from actual human movement.
Plot from IMDB:
Quote: When his brother is killed in a robbery, paraplegic Marine Jake Sully decides to take his place in a mission on the distant world of Pandora. There he learns of greedy corporate figurehead Parker Selfridge's intentions of driving off the native humanoid "Na'vi" in order to mine for the precious material scattered throughout their rich woodland. In exchange for the spinal surgery that will fix his legs, Jake gathers intel for the cooperating military unit spearheaded by gung-ho Colonel Quaritch, while simultaneously attempting to infiltrate the Na'vi people with the use of an "avatar" identity. While Jake begins to bond with the native tribe and quickly falls in love with the beautiful alien Neytiri, the restless Colonel moves forward with his ruthless extermination tactics, forcing the soldier to take a stand - and fight back in an epic battle for the fate of Pandora. |

Overrated in my opinion because it was James Cameron.
Just like the newspapers have said, the storyline revolves around the history of Native Americans, and how the settlers wanted the land because of the value it carries. *COUGH*Pocahontas*COUGH*
Graphics, they were nice...but the storyline was just dragged a bit too long...and not new. I don't get where the hype comes from really...I tried to watch it at an IMAX theater, tickets were sold out until the next 3-4 days. The only choice was either regular 3D or just regular regular.
Time to watch the REAL "AVATAR THE LAST AIRBENDER" |

I sorta agree. I felt the movie was so overrated, predictable and last of all BORING.

Pfft. Strangely, I'm not attracted to anime.
I suppose I agree that storyline was a lot like Pocahontas. But you could still tell that a massive amount of effort was put into making the movie.
And I guess I personally liked it because I actually didn't see the ending coming. It was a surprise. |
