| I usually get 250-280kb/sec on mines when theres good seeds. I always tend to not get my max(or near max) download speed when I was using Azureus. It was becuase of the Download/Upload speed ratio cap that that program has. |

That can be easily fixed by changing your options though.
And also, I'd like to mention that the speed of your downloads has almost nothing to do with which BT program you're using. The biggest factors in determining your download/upload speeds is 1) your connection speed and internet provider (56k, dsl, cable, etc.) and 2) the seeder to leecher ratio.

Indeed, the amount you're uploading has a big impact on your download speed. Try cutting your max upload speed back if your getting slow downloads - I have to drop mine down to a third of my total upload speed to get best results.

It's a bit of info on ports, the change made a big difference for me. The information is for Azureus but I imagine it's relevant to other bittorrent programs?
Assuming the torrent is well seeded etc I now usually get maximum download speeds from Azureus.  |

i have switched to azerus now.... feels abit faster than bitcomet for now....
anyway i was wondering what r ur AVERAGE DL SPEED? say on a fairly popular tracker?
anybody knws how to increase ur BT DL speed? |

Just like Soma has previously mentioned, your download speed should be independent of the bt client you're using. I'm using 1.5Mbit DSL (I think) and my fastest speed download speed is around 350kbps on bittorrent, average should be around 100kbps. Take note that all these figures varies depending on where you live, what ISP you're using, seeder vs. leecher ratio, seeder uploading speed and whether your port is blocked etc.
When you're using Azureus, it will show you a health column with different colour of smiley faces. If you can get green smiley (take a look at my previous screenshot), it means your port if working properly and you are getting the best downloading speed you can achieve. Yellow colour means your port is blocked, mainly due to NAT of your router. Have a read here for more detail. |

| I like to use Bitcomet since they let you download several at a time. Plus you can adjust the download/upload rate to different levels. |

I use both BitComet and Azureus together. BitComet is great with chinese trackers, udp trackers and files with japanese/korean/chinese characters and it usually gives me a higher DL speed than Azureus (around 1200kB/sec), but I think it sucks for seeding which is where Azureus comes in, when I release my own torrents or when I finish leeching a torrent (and feel like seeding it  ) I switch it to Azureus, with my connection it seems that it connects better to peers and delivers higher upload speed than BitComet (around 130kB/sec). |

I use Bitcomet. BitComet gives me the best download speeds, I always max my download speed when it's a good tracker. I think the new BitComet with the newly installed DHT network greatly helps increase the download speed.
My computer doesn't like Azureus, torrents just don't move when I'm using it. Moreover, Azureus eats up so much RAM as it is a java-based client >_<. But I guess the super-seeder mode is great for seeding. 
You can increase your download speeds by forwarding ports if you are behind a router or a firewall.... it helps an enormous amount.
Also, if you installed WinXP service pack 2, you should download another program that increases your max simultaneous TCP connections to 50. With WinXP SP2, max simultaneous connections is set to 10, and your torrent speeds will suffer. Without SP2, you have an unlimited amount, but then sets your computer at great vulnerability ro viruses and bugs. The other program sets the number to 50, high enough for great download speeds, but low enough to block out 90% of the bugs and viruses. |
