Okay it's been awhile since I've created a thread. Let's talk about Ai-chan's voice. Lots and I mean LOTS of people hate her "squeaky voice"  and claim that she can't sing well  (go download her live perfomances!)
definition of squeaky: having or making a high-pitched sound such as that made by a mouse or a rusty hinge
Some "smart" person mentioned that she CAN'T sing well ballads and that is really absurd! Ai can sing and play the piano (without the piano scores) and still sing really well! It's hard singing and playing an instrument ^_^ Ai-chan is sooo talented! Me love her more each day 
My opinion: I think Ai's voice is really cute and it AIN'T squeaky it's just less mature and it doesn't produce this squeaky sound (example: when Ayu hits the high notes ps: I'm a big Ayu fan but it's true )

| Maybe that is her voice tone that make me listen to her songs almost everyday. Those that said that her voice is squeaky obviously don't know how to appreciate her voice getting turn away by feeling that her voice is kiddy which partly make her songs so addictive to me. And of course she is a great singer after seeing all her live performance. I remember her voice was compared to Aiko voice which I found is quite similiar but Aiko never captivated me like Ai does. And remember that most of her song is produced by herself which make her even more attractive to me. But you cannot expect everyone to like Ai and is it our duty to support her always and ignoring those negative comments on her. |

| well, compare to other jpop artise.. like the new singer name yuna ito.. Ai i definately not better then them.. it depends on her style.. however, i do notice that Ai has been hardworking changing her voice.. if u would hear her mp3 songs carefully u will hear her breathing sound while singer does not have.. |

One of my friend said that Ai's voice is just a common Japan girl voice...
nothing special~
But for me, her voice really cool!
suitable for both cute and slow song like Kingyo Hanabi.
Ai's type of songs keep changing and give us suprise in every new single! |

just like clover, a lot of my friends don't really like ai's voice. at first, i didn't really like it either; but to me, that's what made her stood out. and after awhile, i got used to it.
and like yumi said, ai is working on her vocals. not only that, i think she "works" her vocal so that it fits each song (ex. SMILY: more fun, child like; neko ni fuusen: more mature vocal) |

ya, tat is a common voice, not very special one!!!!
but i like her voice very much, when she sing kingyo hanabi and planetarium!!!!!
sometime, there is a cute voice when she sing smily, neko ni fuusen and pretty voice!!! some like a child!!! but this is also nice one!!! |

 ai voice is unique..squeaky? which part? high pitch.. i cant reach her high pitch when i try to sIng her song.. it's a great task to do that.. ai is great.. she can hit e low pitch n high.. tat's pretty awesome.. what more do we expect?? some song like smiley,sakuranbo need really high pitch ne.~~ |

What I can say is Ai-chin might not have the most beautiful voice in the world, but it's definitely the cutest. I'm not bothered by the fact that some people claiming her voice to be rather squeaky and child-like, I love her voice and that's what that matters, afterall music is a very personal thing.  If you want to listen to beautiful voice, I recommend you MISIA, or Pavarotti.
Indeed, she's working on her voice and I think she's a very versatile singer (able to sing both happy songs and ballads really well). I like Ai not just because of her voice (beautiful voice alone doesn't make a singer), but because of her personality (happy, optimistic), her talent (compose, lyrics, piano, drawings), her kawaii face (I can't deny this even though some people might think of this as a shallow reason) and her being herself (do not fake her personality like some artist). 
Ai is a unique figure in J-Pop and people who don't try to get into her music world is wasting away their lives. |

i think that Ai has a very great voice! even though her voice is the pitch of a little girl, it is very very good, and she can sing, dance, play piano, composer,very sweet *by what i can tell* and is very beautiful.
i don't think it was necesarry for the people to say her voice is absurd! she is who she is, and if the people don't like it, they don't don't have to listen. I mean, people can have their own opinion, but it's mean to say such an insult! plus, she can sing any song that somebody wants her to without a problem. wether it be slow, happy, up-beat, poppy, or anything
aichan is very talented and special, in my opinion though |

that 'smart' person can go to hell for all he's worth!! i love ai-chan's voice so much. in fact, it's her voice i heard on the tv commercial that got me to buy her love jam album and explore other jpop singers like hitomi and ayumi. i dont think that ai's voice is considered squeaky. like eyn, i also do think she has the cutest voice in the world . her voice may be a little high pitched but c'mon, who would ever like a female singer whose voice is low and manly?  squeaky is definitely not the word to describe ai's voice! 
i guess it's a matter of opinion. for example, my frien was once a fan of ayumi but he lost in interest in her after seeing her live performances. he thinks that ayumi cannot really sing and her voice in her albums and singles are computer edited to sound good. |

It's a shame I've been told such things as well.
A very good friend told me once that she was shocked to hear her voice, or that she doesnt know how to sing, she has no skills..
Really though I dont personally bother. Ai's voice is not squeeky at all. It's girly of course, and not that deep but surely its not squeeky. ie theres no way like ayus voice at asfxx or Lp, thats what bad squeeky means imo.
As for the uniqueness of her voice.. erm what the..? we know that voice isnt the essential part unless one sings opera. Many and many artists have not good voice but are popular and people love them etc, and there others with stunning voice but bland songs. As long as her voice is healthy and ok theres no problem.
Her music is based at her talend after all, I havent seen any artist who composes/writes all the songs, or turned a j-pop concert into a stunning piano recital.
Her ballad skills are exceptional, her voice always can accompany them in the best way.

The definition of a beautiful voice is different to different people depending on music tastes. For instance, I for one am not a fan of voices such as Mariah Carey, Cristina Aguilera, or Gackt (who I refer to as Mariah's guy counterpart lol). Their voices are a bit too much for me. I like calmer voices or unique vocals such as Bonnie Pink, Kusano Masamune (Spitz), and hyde (Laruku). I also prefer male vocals over female vocals. As for Ootsuka Ai, I do enjoy her voice, but I can see why people who haven't given her a fair chance can deem her as typical. At first listen, she does sound like Japan's stereotypical "kawaii girl", and I think only at a closer glance her uniqueness shows. I believe the difference between Ai-chin and most other idols (besides composing, writing, producing her music, and being a cartoonist  ) is she sincerely enjoys what she's doing not for the attention, but because people are listening and enjoying her songs. |

i don't know really er...i juz hav no comment here..hm...i juz like her voice!
i love it......i don't think it is squeaky...i think she have her personal charm in her voice and her own way to sing her song( if every singers sing in the same style think how boring can that be) her way to persuade ppl to love and listen to her song..over all it bases on ai's talent in the way she sings songs
p.s. i think...to be an pop artist..voice is not everything...charm in themselves that attract ppl to listen to their song! |

I think her voice is really beautiful when she sings ballad and when she sings happy songs she kinda makes her voice more cute and childish like  |

yah her voice is high but it does not make that squeaky thing while she sings and like listening to live songs that she sings
