While revising you shouldn't be distracted (e.g music) sometimes it helps but if you're something who can't learn while being distracted don't put on music. Now stop reading those lessons you should memorize them by writing on a piece of paper. It helps alot when you make yourself a little test and do it.
I hope my advice will help ya. |

If you're studying for exams, make sure you understand what you are learning and the what's the main idea/concept of each chapter of the textbook. Writing them down, as Clover suggested, helps. Another thing is, don't leave everything till the last minute, make sure you do all the homeworks and assignments when they are given, they helps you understand the materials taught while you're going through the school year.
Anyway, try to read the whole chapter, close the book, and start asking yourself question like "What's this chapter about?", "Why are we studying this?", "What happened?", "Why it happened?" etc. If you can come out with good questions and answers, you're ready for that particular chapter.
If you're studying math, don't just "read" the question, "do" it. That's how math works, you just keep doing until you're sure you know the trick of it. Hope it helps. |

i agree with Clover as for myself i couldn't concentrate while revising with listening 2 music at the same time...well mayb there's exception for others bt it's nt 4 me...u can also highlight or jot down the important points or key words while reading it...
mind-mapping would be useful if u knw hw 2 use it...as a picture is worth a thousand words....making short notes is another good idea too....u learn 2 pick out main points and using different colours will enable u 2 remember better
that's all from me...actually the most important thgs is u find a learning way tat u feel more comfortable and relaxing with....juz then u able 2 learn better and definitely memorize thgs easier |

For me, i normally revise everyday after my lecturers. It helps you to build up your understanding bout every chapters, in case you don't understand about something, at least you got the chance to discuss with friends or lecturers. I am agree with eyn, don't leave everything at last minute(esp those things you don't understand). Don't study overnight, because this will cause you really tired.
After you finish up a chapter, close the book and try to recall what you have understand from this chapter, and note them down with a diagram (ie memory tree). This is what i usually during the revising week. There is one more effective way to build up your understanding which is teaching you frens, you friends would keep asking your questions, so it will helps you a lot.
Hopefully this can help you. |

hi bobo! hmm.. different ppl have different study tips.. for me, if i do not have any music while im studying i will forget everything im learning.. and depends on the speed of my memorising.. after reading the notes write it all out on a blank paper after that try some questions give u get it write it'll be good.. or u can try subsituting words like
Neko
Ni
Fuusen
Newton
no
Food
u know this kind.. ha! im just giving an examples =x it sound lame..
2nd : have a good study environment.. go to which places where u think u can memorise a lot at that places.. as for me i'll go to places which have a lot of Ai posters to get me motivation..
3rd: work on problems with ur friends.. 2 brains are better than 1. working together allows you and your friends to bounce ideas off each toher and broaden your knowledge base but be careful that discussions do not ruen into overly heated debates easily. |

if u are those who cannot sit still and read a book like me....u can try writing down what u have learnt from the book in point form or draw it out in a form of a mind map. if u are able to write down what u learn in your own words, it means that u have understood it.
that was what i did to prepare for my olevels exams. i find it useful cause there's something to do rather than just reading from the book. im the type of person who will fall asleep after reading a book for just 5 minutes.
good luck for your exam! |

yeah, great tips..but personally I'm from the ones who can't concentrate easily
I choose to write each chapter at my own notebook so I can recall them in teh way I have written them, and its easier to do so with your letters.
This year I have to change lol. |

Hihi Boboai
Here are some helpful tips
1) Use flash cards! write a question on one side and answer on the other. Example of definition: What is the meaning of eugenics? on the back: the self direction of human evolution. Use cue cards or carstok. Line paper is too transparent and answer are easy to see plus it is very flimsy.
2) Make a mini quiz. Rearrange some practice problems, change the scenarios slightly or in the case of math, change the numbers. Do the mini quiz. This is not an open book quiz. Remember that!
3) Read your notes to a tape recorder. Then replay it before you sleep. Studies show that when you are semi-concious it is the best time to absorb information. I do it sometimes for Biology when there is overload of info.
4) Re-write the notes as said before. After you rewrote it, tranfer only the important information to 2 cue cards. Retell the information to a friend or family member. Teach it to the other person. That is how you know that you know the whole concept
5) Get a good night sleep. Staying up to study will not help you because you are in panic of not having enough time to study.
6) Have a study schedule. Plan a time each day to revise notes etc.
Good Luck to all who have tests/quizzes/quests/exams~
I hope this helps |

The word you guys are looking for is "review", not "revise". To "revise" something is to take an existing work and improve it. That's not a synonym for studying.
I sure hope you're not taking an English test.
If you are, you might as well stop "revising" right now and just watch South Park or something, cause you're going to fail anyway.
[ Just kidding. ]
By the way, boboai, your yellow text is impossible to read on the Bidama background. You really shouldn't change the color of your text; this board has many different themes, and many people are using different ones.
Also...the suggestion about getting a good night's sleep is extremely important. If you are tired, your memory is MUCH worse, and you will have a very hard time. It will help you a lot more to get lots of sleep and wake up feeling refreshed, than it would to stay up later studying.
If all else fails, just write all the answers on your arms. |

As many of my friends have put it, procrastinating = probable failure
Never, ever leave things to the last minute cause sometimes, they might pile up into this one huge stack. Those were the days of 9th grade
Having a good night sleep should become a habit, it gives you alot of brain power in the morning.
Also, if you really cant remember something. Try to do something repetitive and also you can memorise. Then link it to what you are studying.
For eg. For Physics, i always remember a ball and it bounces, it leads to gravity, to analysising motion = bingo FORMULAS!
It's kind of weird and sometimes hard to master, but its kind of those things that get stuck in your head |

i have my exams in 5 days!!
here are my exam tips.. though some will be repeated.
1 - get a good night's sleep. a good night's sleep does wonders. i can attest to that.
2 - study and prepare as hard as you can during the days leading up to the exams.
3 - if you wanna study when travelling to the exam, only read summarised notes, and not detailed handouts/textbooks etc.
4 - when you get to exam venue, don't ask how your friends studied for the exam, coz if they say something like they did twice as many hours of study as you did, or they had a very good way of studying that u didnt, it's gonna play on your mind during the exam....
5 - [this was actually on my schools exam tips hand out] if you dont get a question, put your stationery down and take a few deep breaths.
6 - [i made this one up] if the deep breaths don't work, start panicking. [joking ._.]
anyhow, GOOD LUCK to everryone with exams. GANBATTE |
