I don't think Ai-chan's singing voice is like any other japanese girly. Maybe you meant anime girlies but that does't make any sense.

Her voice is special, flexible.
you can see how her vocal changes from song to songs rite?
Like in smily with that kinda kiddy voice, then in ballad songs with the soft voice, sound matured.
Actually artists need to sing with voices which match to the songs they sing, and Ai can really do well in this part. argree??

Different singers have different voice.
The most important is if they can find the songs fit for their voice.
I think every song which Ai creates is very suitable for her.
Besides,Ai's singing skill is progressing from 1st single to now.
I really like her singing!

Ai sure has improved, i didnt really like sakuranbo at first. It sounded not really unique in Jpop. Kingyo Hanabi got me in, really nice voice.

I really enjoy Ai's voice. It's very unique and I think sometimes people have a hard time accepting something that doesn't fit the norm. People are used to listening to Ayu and Utada and other singers with more mature, deeper voices and then when someone comes along that doesn't fit that profile, they think it sounds awful. (Or in this case squeaky.)

Ai has a sound that is all her own and it suits her very well. She reminds me a bit of Chara, actually. She had a very childlike signing voice, but then she could turn it around and really belt out a ballad maturely.

I think Ai's voice is very versatile. Anyone who says that it's just "squeaky" hasn't heard enough of her songs to realize this. She has the ability to change her voice to suit any type of song she sings.

She also has an uncanny ability to express her emotions in her songs. You can tell by the tone and the sound of her voice what she's feeling and get an overall idea of the song she's singing and what it's about from that.

This is one big reason why I love Ai so much. Nod

I think you're right on target, madgirlslovesong.

I think Ai's voice is more like aiko's than Chara's, since Chara's voice is pretty raspy, but in terms of ballad singing, Ai really can belt out her pure emotion into her songs. "daisuku da yo." is a perfect example of this. Her voice sounds very mature in songs like "kingyo hanabi", while it can be completely fun in songs like "Happy Days", and most people who dub her voice as "squeaky" has most likely hasn't listen to a variety or many songs from her.

She can sing, no doubt about this!

But her voice is the nasal sort, so a lot of people might not like it. Luckily for Ai, Japanese seem to like the nasal tone (koda Kumi, Ayumi etc etc etc)

I personally think it's cute! But I hate it when Ai mis-use her voice until it's way too squeaky and piercing >_<

Ai's voice is unique. I've not heard anyone like her!

It's not that I've not heard cutesy songs before. I don't know much about Jpop (i just about listen only to ai, love psychedelico, and old ayu, utada songs) so I won't know of any jpop artiste who has done cutesy songs, but u do hear such stuff in Cpop. and i really hate them, because they sound horribly artificial and nasal. However when I first heard her on Sakuranbo, it did not really strike me as some act cute song, but rather as something very happy. haha.

her voice really suits her songs, be it those happy ones or the ballads. she belongs to the rare breed of singers who people like because of their voices. Dido, Mel C, Stefanie Sun, Faye Wong come into mind.

I like how her voice is higher then most singers I like ( Ayumi Hamsaki and Mika Nakashima especially ) without getting obnoxious ( like Kana ( though I do like some of her songs ) ) and she's good at doing really fast songs ( like PON PON ) or slower songs ( like Daisuki Dayo )

dito!
But I can't understand why all of my friends (which some of them listen to jpop) are saying, that Ai's voice is too childish and squeaky.
Imho there are much more JPOP female artists which have more squeaky like voice.... but NOT Ai!...... I really listened one time on Ai's songs while I was thinking it would be squeaky.... But I couldn't say, that's really so.

They're all talking rubbish and having no notion!
