So I was just wondering what you guys think! I always look forward to what songs she will perform in a new concert playing piano. My favorites are...

Kuroge wagyuu joshio tan'yaki 680 yen (Love is Born 2009)
followed by
Haneari tamago (Love is Born 2006)

Others worthy of mentioning...

Ren'ai shashin (Ai am Best Tour)
Planetarium (Love is Born 2008 taiwanese-japanese version)

So what do you guys think?

You don't like jazz? Blank stare

Two votes for Natsuzora (or however you spell it), guess I'm going to watch Love Is Born 2007 tonight! Boogie

^ I absolutely love Jazz! Laughing
Actually I'm studying Jazz music on my university...and that's why I don't like it...the chords she's playing sound really bad No

It's hard to explain....she is only using dominant chords, and dominant chords NEED to end into a tonic chord because dominants sound really tensioned.
But she doesn't conclude the dominant chord into a tonic chord No

That's why I don't like it Embarassed Embarassed

And yeah..I forgot that I also love that live version of Natsuzora Love Love

Are you mixing classical with jazz? Tongue

If you're talking about the cadence in which the dominant chord is the second to last before the ending tonic. I don't feel like this applies to jazz. Not to every style at least. And definitely not when rearranging a pop song leaving the melody untouched.

Maybe I just didn't fully understand what you were saying and I haven't done an analysis on the arrangement but I thought it sounded cool and different. Every song doesn't need to follow the theory of 'perfect music' or whatever Laughing

Do you think Ai would've performed it if she thought it sucked? She looked quite happy about it after the song.

^Maybe she didn't knew it sucked Laughing

Nope..I'm not mixing it...I have no idea about classical...Do dominant chords exist in classical? Shocked xD

What I meant is

tonic : Imaj7, III-7 and VI-7
dominant: V7
subdominant: II-7 and IVmaj7

a dominant must conclude on a tonic or subdominant chord to sound good...because everytime you hear a dominant its sound is always asking to move to other chord..it's too tensioned.

Well, the thing is that it doesn't sound good to me Embarassed

How about a basic chord progression of, in seventh chords, I-VI-II-V(*I actually like VII here) and repeat. Sure if you loop it and end it in tonic it's natural but.... Mad

Wouldn't it be boring if every song went like that? Nod

She might even be intentionally avoiding the natural ending. I'm not trying to say that you have to like it! Laughing

^Yeah..it would be boring Laughing
But what I don't like isn't the progression itself...but the tensions she uses.
Other problems I see is that she is using a too low register, it would have sounded better if she played an octave higher, and was accompanied by a bass.
Every time you play tensions it sounds really smoother when there's a walking bass.

Ok, we are on totally different levels here Laughing

I absolutely loved it when she hit that low chord. She even accentuated it.

I'm listening to Yumekui right now, can we agree this is a great song? Giggle

I wonder if we scared everyone else off this thread Embarassed

Yeah...probably we scared everyone...but I wish we could talk more about this kind of things...this are the real things we should discuss not "Ai can't dance" or "Ai is in relationships with Su" Laughing Laughing
