I watched Inception at an IMAX cinema last night and was left speechless by the end of it
It wasn't anything like I had expected it to be, much more like Nolan's older works (The Prestige) and less like the two Batman movies he made.
DiCaprio was showing his age a little, but he still has the charm.
Perhaps it would have made less of an impact on me had I seen it at a normal multiplex, but boy was it worth it.
Has anyone seen it yet? |

I loved it.
When I watched it with a friend neither of us ever realized the movie was over two hours long. I was quite tired when I was watching it since it was some time after work and then I had to drive out to the theater ect. but it definitely woke me up as I had to think a bit throughout the movie. |

^ofcourse you loved it, I am still waiting for someone to tell me they didn't
I decided to watch it again at the local multiplex, because the first time around I was struck dumb and left shellshocked (IMAX screens are humongous, they batter your senses silly)
I should probably add a huge SPOILER-ALERT tag here somewhere
But I will try not to give too much away
This is the official IMAX poster for it (click for biggie)
And this was a fullpage ad in a local mag (click for biggie)
You can probably see from all those 5 stars what most people thought about it
Ingenious
That is the best way to describe the movie.
Everything about it was exceptionally well thought out and some of the scenes are too bloody amazing for words
It might not be one of the greatest movies ever made, but it will definitely be in the top 100 of all time, the movie of the year at the very least
If there is one movie everyone should watch at theaters this year, then it should be this one.
Sorry if I sound like a salesman or a cliche ad. |

Double post alert!!
Long essay alert!!
SPOILER ALERT!!!
I have a question to ask the people that have seen it:
what did you think about the ending?
I've been pondering over this a lot the past few days
First time I watched it, I thought it was a really sad ending, the thing kept spinning and spinning so it implied he was still in limbo, dreaming. He would never return to reality and his children would never see him again
But second time around, I noticed there was a slight hitch, and the cut to black happened just when the thing might have started to topple over.
The ending was designed to be ambiguous!
I can't remember any other movie having an ambiguous ending
It could be either a happy ending or a sad ending depending on how the viewer interprets the final 5 seconds of the film
On balance, I think there is enough evidence to back a happy ending:
that DiCaprio did manage to retreive Ken, wake up and return to his children
When DiCaprio wakes, the others are already up. This fits in with the rest of events that suggest DiCaprio and Ken were still dreaming whilst the others took the planned cascading kicks into reality, and DiCaprio and Ken must have taken a lot longer to wake from the sedation (without having their minds turning into scrambled egg)
The entire end sequence feels unreal, how DiCaprio looks around him, going through the airport and vaguely catching the eyes of his friends, blissfully returning home to his children.
He must have been in limbo for years, so waking up to reality was just as like going into a new dream, groggy and somewhat unfocused.
But he had done it before, so he couldn't fool himself
Then there's the suggestion of him actually seeing the faces of his children at the end.
That was one of his greatest regrets, and even whilst he was in his deepest subconscious, he could never give them faces.
So that also proves that for him to finally see his kid's faces, he couldn't have been dreaming
There wont ever be a sequel to the film, not from DiCaprio's point of view at any rate.
It would destroy any ambiguity about the ending in this film, taking away one of the most fascinating aspects about the movie
The crux of the film is the mistake he makes to alter his wife's belief about reality.
He didn't have to set the thing spinning again in her subconscious, he just had to show it to her and remind her that they were living in a dream.
I really love this film, there is just too much food for thought in its design and production |

I just watched it today...this movie should renamed "Mindf*ck"
first off...good movie, not great (in my liking), but there were some weird parts...
So...the japanese guy gets shot in the first dream...which then affects him in the 2nd and 3rd dream...meaning he's dead. Ok...
Now in the first dream when they drove off the bridge and the gravity affects the 2nd dream, why didn't it affect the 3rd dream? Like...if the dude can die in all 3 dreams, shouldn't the gravity have affect as well? but instead only the 2nd dream was affected....
Next off, how did Leo just get off the dream and then it shoots right to reality? It just didn't make sense, he gets stabbed but doesn't die at all...so let's assume he DOES die...that means he wakes up on the 3rd dream, place blows up, wakes up on 2nd dream...then gravity goes into affect from the first dream, then car goes into the water then they wake up? But Leo doesn't do anything...he was just sitting there...then it skips into the reality....so now I'm assuming that he went into the part where he visits his old self, brings the gun to him...and shoots himself off limbo...
but then the ending shows that he wasn't dreaming, since the top indeed started to lose balance then they just split second ended the scene.
next thing I didn't get was...what was the whole purpose of the japanese dude? to be honest, they need subs for that dude, I could barely comprehend what he was saying...I'm thinking that it was business related, but the story just keeps going onto Leo's side...so that whole other part with the father on the bed and the windmill thing was just a side story was it not?
I'm just lost...but some people were much more lost and left halfway through the movie... |

urgh, I have work tomorrow so I have to make this quick
I guess its just not for everyone
If you didn't understand the whole concept of why there were going into the dreams in the first place (the guy with the windmill thing and his father) then unfortunately nothing else in the movie would make sense at all
That Japanese guy (Ken Watanabe) and Leo were the two most important characters in the movie:
the movie starts right at the end, and finishes vaguely with no clear answer to the outcome
Nobody can really DIE in their dreams; usually they just wake up
but the sedative they used was really powerful so the two people that DID die (Leo and Ken) wound-up in a state of limbo.
The other geezer that got shot was "rescued" from limbo by that girl, Leo didn't manage to get out in time for all the kicks
There was a reason for everything in the movie, but its not one of those films where they hand out everything on a plate
But its your own opinion at the end of the day
and I am not Nolan's secretary so I needn't bother stirring up a huge debate over it |

I didn't find the movie that confusing, since I've seen movies with time frames re-arranged before (lots of Japanese movies actually do this quite a bit and they're no even action movies XD ... if you thought this was confusing, try figuring out the time frames in Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu). I find it helps to think of the dreams as different levels, the whole time I watched that movie the first time around (I want to go back and see it but haven't had a chance to) I was thinking, okay, level one level two. back to level one, ect.
Ken Watanabe's character was important. In the beginning Leo's character was trying to go into his dream to get information for some Engineering company. Because Ken's character thought what Leo was doing was interesting and wanted him to plant an idea into someone else's head that kind of set the whole premise of the movie. I have to admit I didn't quite get why Ken's character had to enter the dreams with them but I guess since he spent all the money protecting Leo before, he wanted to see this business transaction in action. Plus the writer probably did it so they could have the beginning scene and make it make sense. I think it added to the movie to have it like that. Because you were intriqued by what the older Ken's character was saying and how he knew Leo's character ... I think it's what triggers the view to be drawn into the movie.
I have heard a lot of people say that is a lot better the second time around because they picked up on a lot of things they didn't notice the first time.
I heard even the actors were confused when shooting at times, so for each dream they would deliberately wear a different pair of shoes to remind them which dream they're in LOL. This is partly why I want to see this a second time to see if this is in fact true. |

i just saw this movie.
i know you are supposed to suspend belief in these sort of movies. (sort of like in Iron Man, when he smashes against something solid at speed and dusts himself down unharmed because his body armour is still intact. ignore the 100g's of force his body has been subjected to.)
even so, the thing that kept bugging me with this movie was the machine/device that made these dream states possible, even assuming the device could work as explained. when they are awake and hook themselves up to it, it interacts with their brains and then they have this group dream. there is a physiological effect produced by the device.
the problem i have is when it is used in the dream. in the dream there is no physical device so their brains are not being manipulated in the way they were when they entered the dream state. ergo, there is only one "level" of dreaming. the dream within the dream (within the dream) is still the original dream.
another way of looking at this movie is to consider all the plot holes as the audience's token that the whole movie is a dream.
superb special effects, btw. |

I've heard a lot of really good about this movie, but I haven't seen it, because DiCaprio annoys me.
Don't get mad. |
