It's that time of year again, the annual Red & White Music Festival. I was happy to read that Mana Ashida and Fuku Suzuki will be appearing this year with Disney characters. Add to that Aiko, Ayaka, Kara, Koda Kumi, SNSD, Perfume, Ayu, Exile, Arashi, it's going to be awesome this year. Speaking of SNSD and KARA, it will be their first appearances. But as expected, no Ai-chin.
I looked at programming guides and In the USA, it will be aired on TVJapan, the premium cable TV and Dish Network satellite service channel
Here is their programming schedule for this week and new year weekend
If you are lucky like me and live in the Los Angeles area, you can see it FREE on UTB channel 18.3 which is a digital over the air channel.
Quote: This year again, UTB will broadcast the “62nd Red & White Music Festival” on Dec 31st! This year’s theme for the Red & White Music Festival is “Ashita wo Utaou” (“Let’s sing for tomorrow”), which encourages us to step forward for a bright future of hope and recovery for the disaster areas hit by tragic Tohoku earthquake and devastating typhoon in 2011. This year, for the first time as TV host, the host for Red team is Mao Inoue, who played a main character in morning drama “Sunshine”. For the second consecutive year, Arashi is the host for White team. This year will be the debut stage for 3 Korean groups such as GIRLS' GENERATION, KARA and TOHOSHINKI.
In Orange County California on Cox cable, UTB is channel 480. |

Is TVJapan an HDTV channel? I'll pony up the $25 to get it for a month if it's HD.
Meanwhile some rumors turned out to be true.
Lady Gaga added to the artist line up.
Lady Gaga who is performing at the New Year's Eve event in New York City will also perform on Red & White as a remote broadcast from New York. |

| Not really sure about the HD. We get it through Comcast Cable and our TV is ancient. |

You could watch it from KeyHoleTV. It's a Japanese tv streaming application. NHK is there too.
It is about an hour & a half from now! |

Wow, red team won!
After 6 times lost!
It is too bad that our beloved Ai-chin was not present... |

Oh no, I have not seen it yet. It isn't being shown until 7PM tonight in California.
But I am not surprised that red team won. I have not seen it but e girls' team is an impressive list. I am sure Mana-chan was the driving force. AKB48 is coming from a VERY impressive year as well, 5 singles selling a million copies, Japan Records Award...unstoppable.
Happy New Year Choko-sensei! |

| Now that I have watched it (nearly all of it anyway) it is no wonder that the red team won. Mana-chan and Fuku-kun were amazing and adorable as always, AKB48's mashup was great, Ayaka and Aki both really great, SNSD's performance too short (they should have been able to mix in a 2nd song) and I liked KARA's appearance too. The male acts just couldn't compare except for maybe EXILE and Arashi. Speaking of Arashi, technologically the show was cool with the projected backgrounds, especially the interactivity with Arashi's later performance. Overall I enjoyed the whole program. |
