Her voice has a nice soothing tone in it. Love I like her voice because it relieves stress and you can hear emtion in it. Like when you hear "Planetarium", it feels like you've been transported to another place. or "Strawberry Jam" where you feel happy and uplifted. I'm more of a fan for her ballad and rock-pop songs to be honest but every now and then I let in a true pop song in the mix. I believe she's one of the most professional and serious artists in the music world right now. She reminds me a bit of Akino Arai (she sung the ending theme song for "Outlaw Star" and has worked with the composer Yoko Kanno("Cowboy Bebop") numerous of times). Akino also has a warm voice like Ai's but it's a bit more trained. I'll post up any Akino songs if anyone is interested!

I think she sings a TINY bit squeeky and only SOMETIMES. Other than that mostly her voice is high pitched but in a good way not the irratating way. Smile

just like clover, a lot of my friends don't really like ai's voice. at first, i didn't really like it either; but to me, that's what made her stood out. and after awhile, i got used to it.

and like yumi said, ai is working on her vocals. not only that, i think she "works" her vocal so that it fits each song (ex. SMILY: more fun, child like; neko ni fuusen: more mature vocal)

whoa, in depth description, you MUST write great essays Laughing

i agree with what you said, its true that ai does not have a very mature voice, but her voice is sooooooo cute Love Love

Honestly? I found her voice to be strange at first. But now I just love it! Iz sooooo cute! Hah. Tongue
She kind of reminds me of that little girl, about six or so, that you see, and she's just so cute, 'cause she sits there and talks to you with a li'l, itty-bitty smile and puppy-dog eyes, that you just wanna go up and hug her! ......Or something like that...... (~I just remember, when I was in grade six, a little first grade girl did that to me. So, yeah.~)

I saw this similar point made earlier in the post, and I think it needs to be said again:
Ai DOES get "squeaky" sometimes, or at least she did at the start, but not like Ayu when she tries to even come CLOSE to some of the notes Ai sings!
(By the way, I, too, am a huge fan of Ayumi Hamasaki, as well, buuuut......)

The first Ai song I ever heard was Smily, and it was that song that got me hooked on her!! Her voice is so....Quintessientially Japanese....I listened to Smily and Ishikawa Osaka every morning for a couple of months when I first got into Ai because they're such happy and cheerful songs and because her voice is so cute! Love it, love it, love it!

Well, to be honest, I didn't like her at first. My friend send me a song from her first album but I didn't quite like it cos it was too childish. No offence. I forgot what song it was though.

But when i found this forum, I downloaded her Daisukidayo song. Giggle Then i fell in love with the song. Haha.

Now, when I listen to her old songs, I think its cute, not childish, not squeaky. Listening to her happy songs such as Smily and Sakuranbo, I feel happier or feel much better whenever i'm feeling down.

I wouldn't call her voice squeaky. It's definitely high-pitched but that is exactly the reason why I'm so obsessed. Her voice is very youthful. It's young, cute and it reminds me of all the sweetness in life. I don't even know if I'm making sense. Giggle

She must've really worked hard. I don't think she should try to change her voice or style at all. It's original, it's unique, it's very Ai-like. We all love her for her.

Ai should always ALWAYS be herself!! <33

Her voice is great! Few months back I was only listening to Chinese Pop, and I got to know Ai-chan through a friend. After listening to her songs, I was quite attracted to her voice...

Well... I even listen only her songs for 2 weeks, a bit during the day, and more before I sleep everyday... not sick of it though...

After that, I wanted to find out more about her then I came to this site...heheh.. Her voice is youthful, full of energy...

hi guys,

Im a new member and a recent fan of Otsuka Ai since I came back from Japan. I think her voice is different, which in my opinion is a good thing. She definitly doesnt have the voice of an opera singer but her voice is probably better then most girls walking on the street? either way, I think he voice fits her cuteness.

The first song I heard from Ai is smiley. At first I though it sound like some Animation theme song (but for some strange reason I couldn't stop smiling while listening to it lol), her voice seem to be like one of those typical cute Japanese singer in that song which is what put people off I think...but what did I know then....
After listen to some of her slow songs like Daisuki Dayo I realise that Ai is different, she can really sing.
After saw her singing live and her piano, it totally blow me away. What a talent!! Her live performance is so so good!! She can control her voice very well, even on this fan site I saw people asking question like: Is she singing over a tape? Is it really live?? ....Well It is!!

well, her voice...fits her image, I guess. I mean, to be honest, she lacks proper breathing techniques of a good vocalist (the sharp intake of breath at the beginning of every line in Planitarium was kind of annoying). But breathing techniques can be practiced with time

I love Ai Otsuka's voice. When I first heard one of her songs I thought I'd definately hear one of those screechy songs from her. But, I havent yet Love

It kind of upsets me that people actually suggest she take lessons to make her voice less high pitch. Laughing I think its fine the way it is. And its the only way I can actually differ her from other artists. Tongue

I've always liked her rather unique voice, but when I saw the Jam Punch Tour DVD and especially the three songs on the piano I realized what an amazing singer and musician she truly is.
