Hm... I've barely heard Kumi Koda singing live... [I fell asleep with the Secret ~first class~ limited live concert]... but she does seem to have a 'shaky' live voice... I never thought about live singing at all... But Ai really does have a great stage presence and her emotion is very apparent....
I agree in regards to Kumi Koda's flexibility... or lack thereof... Her ballads do sound unnatural, even the ever-so-great 1000 no kotoba sounds mediocre coming from Kumi Koda.... and it is also true that her songs don't bare much meaning. The contrary can be said for Ayu and Otsuka, no doubt. I haven't watched or seen 'Birthday eve', but a cute Kumi Koda is something I do NOT want to watch. It's like watching Otsuka performing 'Shake It'. 
When i said 'poppy' songs that you can dance to, I didn't mean cute boppy songs like Sakuranbo and SMILY, I meant something that is more heavier/serious pop in which you could construct a great dance routine of... more examples. 'my name's WOMEN', Kumiko's 'Shake It'... those type of pop songs... you can't compare them to Sakuranbo and SMILY....
Otsuka's compilation is still at least two years too early if it'll be 2 CD's. xP But I do hope she does get the amount of exposure Kumi gets.... maybe even more... Interesting fact, the sales for Best ~first things~ was greater than all Kumi Koda's studio album's sales combined >_>
I find it hard not to acknowledge that Ayu is sinking, even if it is by the smallest of proportions. You definitely can't say she is getting more popular imo.... Another interesting fact, B&D's total sales hasn't surpassed the first week sales of her previous three singles. |

Now i gotta state my opinnion about the topic who´s gonna be the next J-Pop queen?.
I dont really see that Kumi Koda could be the next Jpop queen, i mean it takes a lot to take that title from Ayu. Lets thing about it litlle Kumi is good but i thing he aint ready yet for that title her songs aint that impressive.
Then theres Ami Suzuki well we all know that he *flopped, he had a huge succes in 2001 but then something happened..and i dont see no coming back from there,
Amie Namuro...*no statement*.....Ai Otsuka, well i gotta say no to him too. But but but *suprise* mayby theres a change still becouse we all know if we look how huge succes Ai is now into. It could be that Ai´s the next J-Pop queen. but like somebody said music markets changes so fast that i thing we cant predict the winner. But i truly wish and hope that Ai could be the lucky one  |

wow...this article is very interesting...
out of the three to-be j-pop queens, i've only listened to ai's songs...i've never heard any of koda kumi's or ami suzuki's songs...so can't really say who out of the 3 are better.
but i will forvever support ai!!! ganbatte!!!! ^^ |

| for kumi... i admit that 2005 was indeed kinda her year but i don't think she will be able to sustain it for long... i hope that 2006 will be a great year for Ai as everything that she's done has sorted been paving a road for her to succeed this year... music wise, ai beats all of them... her music is the most decent among not just those mentioned in the article but also among the jpop world... but anyway, i don't care whose queen or whatever, all it matters to me is that ai chan keeps on producing quality music for us... and i'll keep on supporting her as long as she does that... |

in reply to HilaryDuffFanboy's post, I believe Bold and Delicious wasn't meant to sell alot in the first place... ayu didn't spend much money or time in the production and it was more like a single to keep the hype and publicity going in preparation for the album so that ayu doesn't disappear from the scene before the album's release...
i admit that her popularity has declined significantly but that's expected to happen sooner or later as your target audience ages and in between transitions to switch target groups...
still...no one has a wider outreach than ayu in the entire jpop world... u ask anyone about jpop and they're more likely to recognise the name 'ayumi hamasaki' than say... koda kumi...
so...there you go...

I knew Koda Kumi would be a contestant! I told them but nooooo~ they didn't listen.
However, I hope either Ai or Ami will win! |

| wow! go ai!!! it is such a great honor to be nominated something of that status! im happy that ai was nominated to be in it. although, the reining queens are very talented, as well as the three contestants, ai is also very talented and i believe that she will put up a very meaningful and powerful fight! gambatte yo, ai! |

as i read the names of the 3 possible future j-pop queen, my mind thought of only one thing: avex. avex must had been grinning ear to ear when they read the article.
after reading the artcile, i thought that kumi had a pretty good chance because a lot of music is very trend and likeable (nevermind the meaning of the lyrics for now). thinking back, i became ayu's fan because her music grew on me right away. and back in those days, i never bother looking up the lyrics yet i kept playing the songs cause it was so catchy.
but after reading riona's posts, i began to have second thoughts. ayu didn't only made it with trend and likeable music, but also different types of music.
ai still has a long way to go. like a lot of you had mention, she's been climbing the ladder steadly since her debut. and i agree with riona, ai is probably the closest to ayu when it comes to variety of music. ai proved she is a cutie pie with songs like sakuranbo and a more serious side with songs like cherish. and unlike a lot of ami and kumi's pv (where in most pv, they have dance scene and other scene where they move around and sing), each of ai's pv is slightly different (sakuranbo vs. cherish) but i'll still like to see ai have more variety, more gener in her music. maybe that can be achieve if she co-compose her songs with other people. know what will be interesting? if she co-compose a song with crea!
i believe also has a chance, but she's probably the one that has the work the hardest to achieve it. i see 2005 as a steping stone for her comeback, and right now she's still standing high. but it'll probably be another year or two before she can be consider as j-pop queen.
on a side note, i'm glad ayu is taking her time with her boyfriend instead of rushing into marriage. i much rather see them wed with 6 months - a year of engagment period and live happily ever after than a rush wedding that only last a while. |

personally, i think kumi's style is a bit too exotic to be a queen for all ages... |

I think there isn't a artist that is really humongous to push Ayu off her throne yet.
We'll have to see because there are many candidates out there not only the 3 of them. |

Ai's not at her peak yet. She still have many years to come to reach there but she is climbing the hill fast.
Yes, she is the what I describe as "The next big thing" in Japanese music industry. There is Koda Kumi rising fast and I normally describe her as the "Kylie Minogue" of Japan where alot of sex appeal on her vids but she actually has something to prove especially her ballads.
Don't write off newcomer Yuna Ito, but I think she has many years to come before she can compete with Ai.
erm...2006, I think current power house like Mika, Ayumi or Utada again will really give tought competition those like Ai and Ku but again, tought fight in year 2006 |

i do agree that yuna ito will rise up, but it is true that it will take her some time. mika is still rising and i think that she has a really good chance of winning, but utada seems to be falling slightly from mika, due to 'nana'. ayumi i am still uncertain, because i havent listened to all her music yet, because she puts out new music almost weekly  but boa might have a chance to shoot for it also, being pretty popular in japan and all.....but personally, i think ai should win  |

It may be too early to really give an accurate estimate as to what Yuna Ito will achieve. She HAS only released one single... Which was a ballad... that was also beautifully composed and boosted even further by a much anticipated movie. But it's safe to say that we are still unsure of what else she can do apart from singing ballads.
I don't mean any offense, but most people could have sang ENDLESS STORY and make a hit out of it. It's that type of karaoke song... If you know what I mean.  |

Hmm, personally I don't think Yuna Ito will go anywhere, but I could be totally wrong. I guess just by using my first impression from ENDLESS STORY, I just... hated it basically Not to mention.. I don't think she quite has the right look. It might be just because I saw her in an awards show but she looked kinda old and mother type looks. How old is she anyways?
My vote is on Ai of course Koda Kumi will be popular, but I really think she has what it takes to be next Ai will surpass her. |
