Yes, because they deserve this.

Before I proceed any further. The correct spellling and capitalisation of their name IS L'Arc~en~Ciel. Get it into your heads, that it's grammatically incorrect to capitalise the 'e' in 'en'. Sheesh. And for god's sake, it's SPELT like that on their albums. Sorry, pet peeve XD;;.

---------------

L'Arc~en~Ciel, also known as ラルク (Laruku) or L'Arc to their fans, is a popular Japanese rock band consisting of four members. The name means "Arc in the Sky", or "rainbow" in French. Laruku's front man is hyde, ken is the lead guitar player , tetsu leader and main composer of the band on bass and yukihiro is the drummer.

In 1992, tetsu and hyde, along with Hiro and Pero formed the band based on a movie that tetsu had seen. After a year of gaining notoriety in their hometown of Osaka, Hiro and Pero quit the band. Afterwards, tetsu convinced his friend ken to quit his studies in architectural design and join the band. A new drummer, sakura, was recruited after tetsu saw him play. In 1993, the band released their debut album, DUNE, still in a small independent label, but reaching plenty of success, managing to be #1 at the Indie charts.

This caught the attention of some major labels, so in 1994, they signed for Sony, releasing their 2nd album, Tierra, that same year. heavenly followed, in 1995 and True, their first million seller, in 1996.

In 1997, sakura was arrested for heroin possession and quit the band. Their popularity was growing too rapidly to quit, so a new tour was organized and yukihiro joined the band. The first concert date of the new tour in Tokyo Dome had an attendance of 56,000 and sold out in four minutes, a testament to their popularity. Their next album was HEART, in 1998.

L'Arc~en~Ciel released three more albums of new material during the next few years: ark and ray which were released simultaneously in 1999, followed by REAL in 2000, which, for the longest time, was the last CD of new material, although many more compilation and remix albums would follow. L'Arc~en~Ciel also composed several theme songs for various anime series, including DNAČ, Rurouni Kenshin, Great Teacher Onizuka and Full Metal Alchemist. They also created the ending theme song to the movie Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.

After a while, however, the various members began working on various solo projects. hyde released several solo albums, Ken founded SONS OF ALL PUSSYS, tetsu started TETSU69 and yukihiro played with acid android. Some fans thought this would be the end of the band, but in actuality it was simply a hiatus.

In June 2003, Laruku came back to play a series of seven concerts in Tokyo and announced a new album for release in the following year. So, in February 2004, their first single in more than three years came out, followed by another one in early March. Finally their long-awaited new album, SMILE, was released the 31st of March.

On July 31st, 2004, L'Arc~en~Ciel made their first U.S. concert debut at Otakon 2004. Approximately 12,000 Otakon attendees attended the concert which was held at a outside venue for the first time in Otakon's musical history, the 1st Mariner Arena located near the Baltimore Convention Center.

Since the Otakon concert, L'Arc~en~Ciel has released many singles and their new album AWAKE was released on June 22nd. - L'Arc~en~Ciel did the opening and ending theme to the Full Metal Alchemist Movie released in the summer of 2005, named Link and LOST HEAVEN respectively.

Currently the members are yet again ensuing their solo projects. The DVD from their recent AWAKE TOUR 2005 was released winter of 2005.

When I have more time, I'll add a bit of info on the solo projects of our dear L'Arc, which...well, really might end up more HYDE and TETSU69 than anthing, really.

Happy discussing. XD! And yes, Lainay, you're allowed to fangirl over hyde xD

Support!

L'Arc~en~Ciel are as pop as J-Rock could ever get. But that doesn't mean they are bad, they are the best band! or my favourite at least.

Too bad things seem like on a hiatus yet again. Sad

Favourite solo project would have to be TETSU69. Too bad he hasn't shown any indication in continuing it... He has another band called Creature Creature lined up which is probably a little bit visual.

L'Arc~en~Ciel are awesome, and their solo project are pretty fun too. I especially love Hyde's rock solo stuff. His really slow solo stuff isn't exactly my favorite though.

^ If we did, it disappeared. Besides, I'm allowing for solo project discussions, like TETSU69 and HYDE, so yea ^^;;.

I've heard of Creature Creature...I wonder if tetsu's gonna sing :O! I like his voice xDDD

hyde's slow stuff is alright. It really depends. The only one that really hit me was 'evergreen', but the others on the Roentgen album were nice too. I did love his new single, COUNTDOWN, though.

Unfortunately, yes, unfortunately, Tetsu's role in Creature Creature is bassist, not vocallist. =.=

I became sort of a Laruku fan mainly because of Leanne, she's too hardcore and has written a few articles about them, all of them are insightful and brings the band to life right in front of you. Surprised I think it's important to know the background of a band even before you starting to listen to their music, it really helps you appreciate their effort and how they make it so far. Respect is given to those who survived all the crisis in their career, like what Laruku has been through. Nod

The solo project is kinda interesting and shows you the talent of each members of L'Arc~en~Ciel. It's not just some pop band using materials made by a single person in the band or from other professional song writers. Every single members in Laruku contributes to their album one way or another by composing songs, writing lyrics etc, which is really amazing imo.

HYDE's solo project seems to sell the best, mainly because he's the vocal of Laruku I believe. Other members might be weaker in their vocal for their solo project, but they are still great nonetheless. I haven't really hear about ken's and yukihiro's solo work, but I know yukihiro is great at remixing stuff, and ken is probably Laruku's best composer.

If you're into all these Laruku frenzy or are new to their stuff, I recommend you to read some of the articles written by a fellow Ai-chin fan, Leanne aka broken::dreams. She just finished her latest TETSU69 article, which is a very interesting read as usual. Boogie

Recommended readings:

P.S. I'm the one who uploaded HYDE's SEASON'S CALL full single to jpopsuki lol. Laughing LVXS sent me the original file though, so credits to him!

I like his singing. ~_~

It's quite a weak voice for a guy, and he isn't the best singer... but it's still something I enjoy... All of TETSU69's singles were fantastic!!

Leanne is the most Laruku obsessed person I've heard of :O! I don't have the patience to write so much articles xD;;.

I think they're the difinition of j-pop/rock. them and AKG. But i don't really like L'Arc that much. I really didn't like their new pv.... Anyways, i think my favorite song by them is stay away! it's got a bass solo. I mean how cool is that?!?! I always liked the bassist. He's my favorite.

Anyways you guys probably know about Punk en ciel. I know very little about the them. but just the fact that they switch positions is pretty awesome. Does anyone have any songs or pv's of punk en ceil?

I'm gonna disagree when you say AKFG are J-pop/rock.... Never... They are more alternative rock.... it's as western as J-rock will ever get... I have also been told by people that pay attention to lyrics that AKFG are 'emo'. o.O

But yes, L'Arc~en~Ciel is as pop as J-rock will ever get! But they are still my favourite band anyway!

P'unk~en~ciel don't have any PV's, but they do have live performances...

AKG? Or like, AKFG? They're not really Jpop/rock. They're just popular (But actually, if you meet Japanese, they'll have never heard of them, really. L'arc? Well, yes, everyone knows L'arc.)

I agree with HilaryDuffFanBoy that Ajikan is a whole lot more alt rock than anything. But you do lie. Ellegarden is the MOST western of Japanese rock music I've heard. Well, including their Japanese songs, that is.

I don't have any PV's of P'unk~en~Ciel...I don't think they ever released any...? I do have a few MP3s. I don't like P'unk, because, as their name says it, they sing punk versions of L'arc songs XDDD;;. It's kind of funny though.

*is slow*
HEY LOOK THERE'S A THREAD DEDICATED TO THE COOLEST PEOPLE EVER. 8D

Weeell, I got on the L'arc~en~Ciel "bandwagon" quite recently...October, I do believe. Yeeees, it was a beautiful day in the life of me. I was researching pics for broken::dreams McBlog team birthday present, when I stumbled across some downloads. So, hesitant, I listened to their song "STAY AWAY". I was immediately hooked...and listened to the song over and over for about 2 hours. It was quite a magical moment. I fell in love with them right at that time, I suppose it was kind of a "love at first sight" thing. Also, STAY AWAY is my favorite song of theirs. Tongue I guess 'twas an awesome song to start with.

My favorite members are...hmm, good question. (it's not like anyone asked, but still XD) Uh, that's a toughie. It's either tetsu or hyde. tetsu is just...I dont know, he's HIM. XD Which makes him special. But, uh, yeah, he's an awesome bassist. I know hyde usually gets most of the attention cuz he's the singer and all, but all my attention goes on tetsuin lives, etc. o_o I especially love it though when there's P'unk~en~Ciel, cuz he gets to SING!! XDDD I actually LIKE his voice, unlike some people. >.> True, it can be annoying and it's not THE BEST IN DA WORLD, but I like it! (and WHOOOOAA its sooo much different than hyde's, that's for sure. XD) hyde is awesome though too. He's a joy too look at (XD), his voice is mesmerizing, and...he's, just, HIM! It's an unexplainable love, really.

Solo projects...I LOVE THEM ALL! TETSU69 is a beautiful mixture of pop and rock which I absolutely adore, HYDE's got the masterpiece ROENTGEN album followed by one of my favorite albums of all-time (666) with it's amazing hard rock stuff, S.O.A.P. has got the wonderful ken (plus former member sakura!) with their totally amazing hard rock songs, and yukihiro and acid android has its, um, WELL I DUNNO WHAT IT'S CALLED BUT ITS AWESOME. V_V It's like rocky...electronic...STUFF. But I love it, nonetheless. <3

So, basically, I could write hours on end on how much I love these folks, but my hands are tired enough and nobody wants to read this. XD I just wish they (they = ALL of them, together, AS A WHOLE T_T) would have a single, album, or anything out soon. It's not even like they're busy with their solo projects. (besides HYDE, of course) Smile K, I'm done. XD
