This is excellent!
As Aprilis mentioned above, I expected this to be a simple translation to english but it's so much more.
I'm (slowly) learning Japanese and this is very helpful, I'm really grateful for the time and effort you've put into this.
A quick question, I read somewhere that men and womens japanese can have a number of differences and it can sound a little funny if you get the two confused, how aware of this do we need to be when learning japanese?

do you mean the choice of words they use or the way they speak? either way, you can't really learn these from song lyrics. because most of the time, the lyrists (sp) will use the word that best fit in with the melody.
for example, in japanese for the word "I", men would say 'boku' and women would say 'watashi'. as you can see 'boku' only has 2 syllable and 'watashi' has 3. so depending the beat of the song, a lyrists will sometime have to use 'boku' because it has less syllables.
as for how aware you should be while learning japanese, it's hard to say. cause most japanese text book usually teach you words/things that apply to both gender. as for the way they speak, imo it's more of a cultural thing. so i'll say be aware that there are differences between the gender, but don't worry too much if you're only planning to read and understand japanese. if you want to learn the difference between the way each gender speaks, i think it's best if you learn it thru communicating with japanese native speakers. |
